Thanks for the compliments guys! I appreciate it.

Suomi, you did far better with the second round of camouiflage painting. Way to go! That does look tremendously better, I agree! As for my painting this trailer, I'll be twisting and turning that bad boy seven ways to Sunday as I mist the color on so that it doesn't build up outside the recesses. What I can't hit with the airbrush, I'll  touch up with a hair brush.

Looking forward to seeing more guys! It's great to see such extensive activity!

i also think the repaint looks better. as for doing vehicles trucks and trailers like this can be tricky. i suspect the tires aren't attached yet. i paint all my tires and road wheels and tracks off the vehicle.  a chassis vehicle or an armored wheel with a complex suspension takes some thought. i do the opposite of Duke. i prome than paint the hard to reach areas with a brush and then airbrush. i may have to pull out the PATRIOT.

here is the MCV. suspension isn't as complicated to build as it looks compared to a Revell OTS BdW FUCHS 6x6. the front wheels can steer but mine are locked. 3 piece tires were nice, just sand a bit on the middle and drop the treads in. i will probably do my blend the cam onto the hubs so some will be brown and others green. it's primed now too.

Helo all!

I'm sort of searching for a new home as the group build I was in seems to have been mostly abandoned. I have always been a 1/72 scale builder, (with a few smaller scale thrown in when I could still see them!). I do have several WIP projects going, and often find myself jumping around. Currently my "main" focus is Trumpeter's 1/72 scale CH-47D Chinook, which at this point, I have just sealed the fuselage this week and currently am at the stage of seam mitigation. There are several other projects on the desk that I pick up and work on here and there but the Chinook is my focus right now. Could I fit this GB?

Jim

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

Thanks for the suggestion Wayne. I got so caught up with building that easy trailer that I didn't think about how I was going to paint it.

That Japanese armored car is looking fantastic! Man, I hope I get some birthday money so I can pick up one of those and a couple Patriots....

Jimbot, I love watchign you build and I believe that wayne has said that even started models are welocme here. I'll let him tell you for sure, but I think he'll let you build it here.

Thanks for replying! That's very interesting. As you can see from my pics I think I go overboard with masking. I have to remember how precise one can be with an airbrush, and that it's not the same as a rattlecan.

Jimbot, I started this MS406 in mid-January, before the official start of the GB, and they let me in the door. It's my first group build, but I don't think it's supposed to be a race, so a head start isn't really an advantage. Wink

Got the clearcoat on last night and a few decals on today. Here's the only pic I took -- the French serial number which will be mostly obscured by the Finnish national insignia roundel.  Gotta let it dry overnight first.

EDIT to add: Also a little touchup is necessary around the tail, both underside and above the horizontal stabilizer. Embarrassed

I've got to say there are some subjects I've never seen before in this GB.  Looking forward to reading up on some of them.  I'm especially digging the MS406.  I thought the softer cameo looked great, but the redo is fantastic!

Had a busy weekend at work but had a bit of time to start on my Skyhawk's pit.  This is my first Airfix kit and was happy to find a pilot figure!  The pit itself is pretty basic and includes decals for the IP, not a big fan, so thought I'd paint him up and give him his own plane.

This is going to be a simple OOB build, though I did scratch an ejection seat handle out of a twisty tie wire.

Sorry about the picture quality.  Limited to a camera phone atm and I just can't get those close in detail shots. Sad

I'm off work Tue and Wed so hopefully will be able to get down and dirty.

Thanks for looking!

Krusty, he's looking good. I think he'll really add to the aircraft. Nice work!

Suomi, good job on those decals so far. You're coming along well.

wayne, those three-piece wheels are very interesting. Seems like a good way to get treads like that to look right on a molded part.

krusty, pilot looks good. 1/72 pilots can't be easy.

OK Wayne,

I found a new startup hobby shop here in Boise and although he has just a few plastics (mostly trains) I wanted to help him out a purchased there two kits. Hopefully I'll find the time to toss these in between mad maddening schedule.

Also I need to build something for my Boeing Build and will be working on this shortly. It will be OOB since I don't want to spend upwards of $25 plus on AM decals. I may change my mind on the decals though, especially since Minicraft decals are so bad.

The B-47 will be a crossover while the P-40 and Dauntless will be for this GB alone...if I get to the last 2.

These are the first photos of my Dragon Rad 8. For such a small vehicle it has fantastic detail and the fits are perfect so far. I finished all this work today, the lower hull with its complicated suspension, wheel wells, tires and I was able to get them primed.

Dragon's new series of 1/72 kits are awesome and very reasonable in price. I'm very thankful that the fits are so good because I swore off braile kits a while back because of trouble with my hands, but this has been a pleasure so far.

More to come, Terry

Ooh! Ooh! The Hasegawa B-47! I built one of those while I was at the Radioman 'A' school at USNTC San Diego...in 1970!

Can't wait to see it happen!

Sorry for all the exclamation points, but I got a bit excited.

P.S. I haven't forgotten my own plans - it's just taken a couple of days longer than I anticipated to finish my last project and clear the bench.

Well here is my current project:

Trumpeter's CH-47 Chinook in 1/72 scale. There are added PE parts:

I just buttoned up the fuselage halves a few days ago, so seams are the thing right now.

Also to night, I cemented in the roof of the cabin (another PE part) You can see it hanging down here, and also some of the other PE parts inside:

There is a sheet of styrene epoxyed (spelling??) to the back of the roof panel to make it more rigid. It tended to want to curl.

Jibber, that little 8-rad is looking good! Well done so far! I haven't done any of Dragon's 8-wheeled vehicles yet; I might just have to pick one up.

Modelcrazy, I'll be watching that B-47, I like the big small-scale planes! Also, does that Dauntless have markings for a French aircraft? I just might have to pick one of those up for that.

Jimbot, that is a tremendous job on that Chinook. Way to go man, the photo-etch really makes that pop!

I started the P-40. I looks like a pretty quick build. The panel lines look a little deep but the reviews I’ve read say it is a fairly accurate kit.

Interesting. I have the Academy P-40M on deck so I'll be watching your build closely.

I got some more finishing work done on the Morane-Saulnier. One more decal left and then it's on to weathering. Prop and legs are only mocked up.

MC you are confusing me. what do you want to show in the roster? i think i have 5 for you right now.

TERRY the 222 looks really nice

SUOMI39 your plane is coming along nicely

i plan to get base coat on MCV on friday. have to decal the atomic cannon, do some light weathering and build a small base for it. finished the 1/35  T-72 for GW1 GB (the ground phase actually started today) and am working on a 1/35 STRV-103C S-tank which i will do in a winter scheme. may pick up a 1/35 103B and both in OTS too.

Yep, that sounds right. The last three should be quick builds. The Mariner and sub will be a different story.

Not much progress on my scooter the past few days.  My assistant manager is out for the week with strep, so no days off for me. Sad  I've got the fuselage together but not much else.

On the bright side, my Tamiya F-16CJ finally made it off the slow boat from Japan. It's only been 6 weeks.  Only paid half of what id have to from the states, so can't complain. Wink

I also ended up getting Airfix's new 1:72 Stuka.  Looks like a really nice kit.  I'll probably build it as a Spanish civil war bird.

Now I just need to decide what my next build will be.

That's one thing I noticed about the Airfix Skyhawk kit I'm working on.  Nicely molded, but the panel lines are a bit deep.   The plastic is a bit softer than I'm used to as well.  Otherwise it's a nice simple kit that builds up nicely.

Jimbot - I'm loving that cockpit detail.

Suomi - Looks great!  Can't wait to see her weathered!
