O.K. I'm in,,,,,,,,be warned,,,,,, I'm a " BUILD GROUP " virgin , still stumbling my way around these forums
I too have already started, much the same sequence as J-Hulk recomends,
cockpit_paint / assm. main airframe_assm / paint. weapons-aerials-rotor_paint / assm to airframe. works o.k. But am currently stuck in the middle, I was missing something,

anyone know where I can find a Mil Mi 24 Hind in 1/48 scale. Recessed panel lines would be a plus.

The Mini Hobby Models 1/48 Mi-24 series has recessed panel lines. They're not bad kits, and are VERY cheap. I bought their Hind-D for about 14 dollars US.

Hey guys!
I got my 1/35 Hind-E yesterday. Am I too late to join in?
I was thinking to build this kit out of the box, no scratch building or aftermarket (there are no aftermarket kits anyway). I'd like to put it into a small dio (along with four russian troopers from ICM) with all the hatches and panels open and painted in russian color scheme.
Today I'll start working on the helo; cockpit first.
Actually I wolud have to finish a Littlebird, two Blackhawks and a Huey first, but since I'm waiting for aftermarket kits to complete them I decided to start with the Hind.
This week I'll be pretty busy at work so I won't be able to make many progreses, but the weekend is all for the bird.
I noticed nobody metinoned the Heilcopter Walkaround site they got a lot of walkarounds: http://helicopterwalkarounds.czweb.org/

Avus, I didn't start this thread but SECRETLY I welcome you to this build group. You got any links to view those 1/35 troops you're going to use? Been scouring some kits at hobby stores for heli 1/35 kits with pilots, but not keen on dropping 30 duckets just for some other kits pilots, capiche? Not to mention troops piling out of the troop cabin. I found a link to a 1/35 Russian pilot (standing) but that's it. Here it is. Internethobbies.com for $8.45.

Higgs, in secret: Thanks for the welcome and for the pilot figure hint!
You can find the soldiers I'll use on tihs page:
http://www.aviapress.com/viewonekit.htm?ICM-35331
As you'll see they are not expensive at all. They are made of white styrene, the pieces fit well and they have good details.
Since the Hind-E was first delivered in 1976 and the soldiers are from the 80's the two kits should fit together.

Thanks for that great link T!

If it is not too late to join this, I would like to get a Hind-A and make it Libyan. That would be sweet! I already have the decals, so I just need to get the kit. This will be my eighth Hind in my inventory! I also definitely want to make an Indian Hind, but getting the decals may be too difficult. I can do the Libyan one once I get a kit.

I'm also a "Group Build Virgin", so if you talk me through it, I'll try to keep up.

I think that everyone is more than welcome to join at any time, as there wasn't a start date, or an end date made in the beginning!! Welcome one and all, I can't wait to see what your Hinds look like!

Thanks for the welcome!
I've almost completed the cockpit. Maybe tonight I'll give it a coat of primer.
As for the color Trumetere says "blueish green"; using only flat blue and flat green wich proportions do you suggest?

I got the Model Master Soviet Interior Blue/Green #2135. Works pretty awesome. I posted a pic of it somewhere on the forum, I'll have to see if I can find it again.

i said i would post pics, so here it is:

i'm not sure what colors to paint the base coat, but for the bottom blue color i used humbrol matt (i think matt) 47, the other colors aren't a good match imo, so i may paint over them if i find a closer match.

also, j-hulk: is that your maus in your signature?

t3488g, it's coming together! I think the colors you are using are pretty good. Maybe a little on the bright side, but that would be toned down after washing and weathering.

That's my E-100 in my signature. Same turret as the Maus, with a different chassis.
If you would like to see more pix of it:

http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/armor?page=2

You can see more of my stuff there and in the aircraft and SF sections, too.
Plus tons of other great works by fellow FSM members! Check it out!

maybe we should get a gb badge. here is the one i made, if anyone comes up with a better one we will vote on which on to use.

if anyone doesn't like it i can cahnge it, it is a little bigger tahn the other gb badges, but when i would make it smaller the quality of the hind became horrible.

kik36 Thanks for the color reference. Actually I wanted to mix the color but having it ready in a bottle is even better.
t3488gYour helo is looking good as is the group build logo. Maybe if we found a pic of a hind in action (like the one in your signature) it'd be cooler.
I didn't make many progresses during the week but I've built some sub assemblies.
Funny thing is when I did this: Currently I'm working in a chemistry lab and I have to do some tests on wine. Since it takes 1h30 to get the results and I have to sit next to the instrument I brought my model along and built it in the lab!

Fellas,
I'm dragging butt, but I am making a little progress on my conversion Hind A project (Trumpeter 1/35 Hind D).
Posted the pics on another thread. Mind some constructive criticism if you got the time.
Pics here (alternate site).

i'm pretty sure you cannot buy a hind A, higg is converting a Trumpeter 1/35 Hind D into a hind A.

Looks good so far higg, looks like you have done alot of work. it seems so big comapred to my 1/72 hindSad [:(] your could probaly put mine inside of your pasenger holdBig Smile [:D]

Darn, I thought that there were a few Hind A's in 1/72 scale still around. I'm not that good at scratchbuilding. If I try to convert a 'D' to an 'A', I'll waste a perfectly good model. I'll keep an eye out at my LHS, he sometimes gets kits that I think are OOP, so he may still get one.

There are PLENTY of HIND A 1:72 kits around.
Seriously, e-bay, stores still carry the old Hasegawa and Airfix kits. But there are NO 1:48 or 1:35 scale, however, never been made. The cockpits on those 1:72 kits are horrible, to boot. They have no detail.
dry fit or die,
Higg

i need 1/72 russian pilots and soldiers, does anyone know where or if i can get them? maybe has some extra pilots? This may seem like a stupid question but, in kosovo did american or canadia troops ride in hinds?

Never knew they did make a hind A, guess i learn somthing new everyday.......Wink [;)]

Higg your work looks good so far.
In this easter week-end I made no progress!Banged Head [banghead]
The only thing I did is this group build logo:
http://www.avus.esmartdesign.com/logo.htm
I have to post the URL since I can't remote-link to the image on my account.
Do we have an end date?

t3488g maybe you can find some kits by Revell or ESCI. If I rember correctly ESCI used to make soviet soldiers and something like Warsaw Pact PilotsConfused [%-)]. I'm not sure at all of what I just stated. If I find someting I'll let you know.

Well, I did it! Cool [8D] I got out to my LHS and found two Hind A kits. One was Airfix, the other Hasegawa. I decided to go with the Hasegawa, since the one I built before is from Hasegawa, and I'm more familiar with it. Besides, it was only 50 cents more expensive than the Airfix kit, so I got a deal for the quality! The nice thing is that this Hasegawa kit comes with pilots and four soldiers as part of the kit! [:0]Approve [^]

I've already started the cockpit and I'm going to paint it tomorrow so I can get caught up with some of you. Pics will be taken tomorrow as well, and hopefully posted here for everyone to see. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Wow! My first Group Build! I'm so excited! Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

kik36 I can't see the logo you posted.
If it's mine thanks for the compliments. I was inspired by the one t3488g made.

Duke Maddog I'm happy to hear you found your model and eventually join on this group build.
