Updated the site today and as far as I know everything I have been sent thus far is on it. Have a look and if anyone or anything needs to be added send it to groupbuild@firehousemail.com and I will get it up. Since I am starting back to work tommorow updates will more than likely be every Sun when i have time to do them.

not sure if i can do this, are we starting on may 20? if so then i will be able to do this.

I am changing from the universal carrier to the 222 if i can join this. going to have it ko'd on my dio. still doing the lyinx. I am planing on the tamiya 222, but as i have seen on this topic, it has some problems. Does anyone know if there is an accurate 222 out there? If not, then i will be using the stock turret, not that good at scratchbuilding.

Man, you've been busy lately thundergod. It's too bad the photo isn't a little crisper to admire the salt technique.

I finished the headrests and cargo (junk) holder. Its my first try at scratch bulding and so far it's pretty good. Just have to put the cargo holder racks for the jerry cans on the side. and then add the figures.
So i ask you guys this, should i take off my badge since the model isn''t completly finished with the scratch building, Or can i keep it because the box-stock model is complete?
I post pics as soon as i can, just gotta download some camera software onto my computer.

hey beav get some picks of it and post them i want to see what it looks like. I would love to go all out on oneof my M20's but there isin't any decent hoby shops in the area, well there is one, but they seem to be like "if it's not RC cars it's not that important" they don't stock up the armor, and thier accesories basicly are a Censored [censored]ing joke. The only other place near here is about an hour away in downtown Houston. The only other shot that I can do is to order the stuff online, but i have to go put money on the credit card. may do that after Scorn and I go see Kill Bill Vol. 2.

Nice tip Peter!

Stipp, the cut off date is May 20, I think, and the end is unspecified, so if you want in, you are most welcome. Let everyone know what you are building and hopefully Beav and the Lizard will make your name magically appear on the build site!

Man, am I behind-I haven't been able to work on my poor M20 at all, lately. I am sad.
I like how this build is progressing, and can we persuade Dwight to post his site where he keeps all of his badges again?
I have most of the rear interior on my M20 done, the inside will be a weathered white color, and it seems good so far.

Thanks for the tip andytee.....never heard that one before.

Feldgrau. forgot to mention, I have a knife that you open in half by undoing a screw in the side of the knife. This is for you to replace the blades (the handle cavity is large enough to carry the spares). Made by Stanley Australia. I put two blades together, sometimes with a thin piece of styrene between them to space the blade widths. Fit it inside the knife body and when you cut you get consistent width strips. Also great for cutting tape for tie down straps, etc.

Thanks for the Tips gang, Knew I could count on all of you. Think I will go with the brass and leave one empty and bend it a little to give it the damaged look. Must admit tho ,,, I wish Tamiya hadn't done it this way. What a pain in the you know what.

To stop thin strips cut from sheet stock - plastic, brass, whatever - from curling the trick is to leave the start and the end of the cut till last. Make your several light cuts like pb says, but start and end each cut two or three millimeters (1/8 inch - whatever) from the edge of the sheet. Once the cut is right through, then just nip the 'end bits' through, and voila! Straight strips!

Cheers! Andy

Here`s a pic of my progress to date. Both models are base coated and sealed with Future. I have started to detail the engine compartments and weathering the back of the 2 1/2 ton truck to show some wood colour through the OD.

Sorry that the pic is a bit blurred.
Comments welcome

Feldgrau another option is thin (.005 or .010) brass sheet. If you go to a motor vehicle accessories place you might be able to get stuff called 'shim paper'. Over here it is brass sheet used to make washers and things. It is cheaper than buying brass sheet from your LHS. I use it and it works great. Just cut it using a steel ruler as a guide and a large cutting knife with a safety blade. You just run it along the ruler with even presure a few times. You can get nice thin strips, but if it curls a bit, just bend it to straighten it out. You can even cut it with flat bladed scissors if you want to make larger items or curved things.

feldgrau23,

I would use .010 sheet styrene or how about parts cut from an aluminum soda can? Have you thought about thick paper, or card board?

I thought about scratch building them and still may if anyone out there can tell me what size styrene to use to make the proper sized water can holders for the sides. There might be a PE set but I think it will be cheaper to make it out of styrene or maybe even foil. Edog or Phroosh if either of you got any Ideas they would be appreciated. I have extra german water cans just needs some ideas for the holders.

I haven't quite started mine yet, but I know the bit you are talking about. I'll have another look when I home, but I think stiff foil would be good if you wanted to rough it up a bit. If you have any spare PE frets, they might be handy. Styrene would work too. Off the top of my head I would probably use .010 or .015. Would make a huge improvement; leave one empty for effect! Hopefully I start mine soon, just needed a break from building a lot of stuff from scratch after my last two projects!

Frosty. Usually it's been one kit for each build, but hey, you build the 6 pdr for the towed gun build and the UC for this build. Sounds fair to me (I jokingly suggested that I build the 3.7mm Pak 36 for the gun build and the Krupp Protze in the same box for this one).

All said and done, who could say no to you anyway.

Hope all is well at home now. Also hope you come into a bit more money soon too. Waiting to see the final pics of your Sherm build.

Frosty - I would not see why not, these things are supposed to be for getting motivated and getting something done right?
