Oortiz - those are looking sweet!

I promise I'm still in this GB - I just haven't been working on my Jug lately. Soon, though...

Ditto from me... just not enough time to get to the bench!

Haven’t forgotten about the Folgore either. I need to get some smoke rings for it though.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

TWO DOWN AND TWO TO GO!

My Monogram and HobbyBoss -47s are done!

Here's a photo of the Razorback:

Here's one of the HobbyBoss Easy Assembly:

If you'd like to see more, you can see the Razorback in this link: Monogram 1/48 P-47D Razorback

If you'd like to see more, you can see the HobbyBoss kit here: 1/48 HobbyBoss Easy Assembly P-47D

And just to show that I'm making progress on my other two Thunderbolts WIFs from the Shelf of Doom stack, check these out:

I had some problems with the Miss M nose art on the port, but I was able to fix it (as best I could) with some paint.

Lastly, Miss M and her stripes:

Here's Lady D's nose art:

Now that two are done, I can concentrate on the WIFs in NMF.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,

O,

Those all are looking most impressive.  Gotta love the large nose art that fills up the big cowlings!

Thanks for sharing.

Those look really good O! How did you go about masking the blue on the nose of Lady D? I have to do something similar when I do mine. I like the OD you have too, was it normal MM OD that you used?

...How did you go about masking the blue on the nose of Lady D?

...I like the OD you have too, was it normal MM OD that you used?

Hey Andy, first of all, thanks for taking a look and the compliment.  Let me go ahead and answer your questions.

First, yes, the OD is MM straight from the bottle.  Thing is, I primed my kit with RAF Sky then painted random "patches" of browns and yellows on the upper surfaces of the airframe before spraying the OD.  I got the color differences by varying coverage.  Then I went back in some places with thinned MM Faded OD to add some depth.

Now, as far as the masking question goes, I figured it might be easier to explain with a few pictures.

First, I use a circle template or circle cutter to give me the radius I'm looking for.

Then I cut my circle in half to give me both "sides" of the chevron. Of course, you could use the whole circle and cut out four. I like to cut mine in half because, in my opinion, it's easier to work with the halves versus the wholes.

Next, I lay down the circles with their radii touching where I want the "point" of my chevron.

Mask what you want to protect from overspray...

Shoot your color (in my case fill in with pencil) and...viola!

Anyway, hope this answer your questions and helps with your builds.  Of course, I'm sure there are easier ways of masking chevrons, but this method works for me.

Thanks again for looking!

Cheers,
-O

Very cool O, thanks for taking the time to share that! I'll have to do a bit of a variation on it but hopefully if will help out some with mine. I'll be doing Rough & Ready from the 368th FG. They supply the red decal and you're suppose to match the color for the cowling but I'm going to paint it all. Can't wait to get started on it!

Andy,
I haven’t forgotten, I'm going to be starting my Macchi C.202's pit tomorrow. I will need RLM 78, 79 and 80 to finish the build though. I will be going to our local Hobby Town next Saturday and hopefully the will have the colors otherwise it's back to internet.

Here is the 202 pit. I added some detail such as the seat holes and belts using tape and some scrap PE that looked like they would work.

Hey FSM,

I haven't had as much time at the bench as I would have liked, but I have made (some) progress on my NMF Thunderbolt WIFs.  I've gotten the decals on, and they're both flat-coated and standing on their own legs.  Just a few small things to do here-and-there, then I can start with the final fiddly-bits.

Anyway, It shouldn't be too long now...

Now for the flap PE. I completed the port wing. The painting is very simple on this kit....except for the camo. EVERYTHING on the underside including the gear struts, wheel wells and flap interior is RLM 78. Just the cockpit is green.

I installed the wings, stabilizers and cowl pieces today. Everything fit as you would expect from a Hase kit although the upper cowl did fit a little off. If I just placed it in its opening, then the middle would have been lower than the rest of the cowl. I had to glue the front and the sides first then the rear when those dried.
I applied Mr. Dissolved Putty to the seams and will smooth them out after it dries.

The Jugs are done!  Both are 1/48 Hasegawa kits built in WIF markings for friends.  I'll be posting a more detailed post with more photos in the Aircraft forum when I have a little more time.  Until then, here are some teasers...

Those are great looking Jugs O. The paint job is too tough for me.

I have some figures I wanted to add to the Macchi dio.
