By the way what did you use for the rigging?

Thanks Rooster,

Dropping in with a quick update to prove I've been working along on my P-47D. Got it all cleaned up and primed and was able to shoot it with Alclad Duraluminum. I'm still learning to work with this stuff but am pretty happy with the results. Next I'll be starting on painting the black stripes on the tail and need to continue work on the engine.

Hey all, just a check-in to say that my build is still alive, it's next up when I finish my Gekko in the Japanese Group Build, going into the paint booth shortly.

There's some great work being done here and I look forward to being more involved. MC you really are crazy - great work on the plane, figures and display. Omar, I'm still in awe - you built four Jugs in the time it takes me to open the box.

Andy, thanks for being such an attentive host!

Hope to be in here with some progress soon;

Mike

Got the cowling masked off and painted with Tamiya red. Quick gloss coat on these and on to decals!

Nice work on the masking Andy

Got the props done for both. Now I know why there was a lot of complaints from the pilots about the original Curtiss prop. Look how tiny compared to the Hamilton Standard

Georgia Peach of the 510FS, 405FG flown by Captain Edward Curry Powell is complete. Mostly happy with how this turned out. This was my first complete NMF in a very long time.

Sorry for the late response but another great finish johnny! That is a very interesting scheme with the red canopy frame and all. Thanks very much for joining in on the GB and contributing some great builds!

Great looking build there Jonny, i like the red canopy framing. I was looking at my decal sheet the otehr day and that has an NMF canopy on an OD aircraft. Must have been a popular feature on 47's.

Rooster, I’m looking at Lt.Col. Francis (Gabby) Gabreski’s mount for the next one. The Hobby Boss 1/48 P-47D HV-A of the 61st FS 56th FG.
I’m not sure if I’ll get to it though. The kit is an easy build but the paint job may take some time.

Ok, So I'm wrapping up my Beaufighter and I am going to start on this GB. I'll be doing a Promodeller P-47N. I've read it's a bit of a tricky kit, but there are lots of parts. I don't think it will be as bad as the Monogram P-40, so it can't be all that bad.

Here's the start to my Hobby Boss P-47. I will be doing this OOB and looks to be a very easy weekend build. Like I said before, the paint job will be the most difficult.

Starting with the cockpit. Nice detail on the floor and IP but the walls are lacking. for the rest of the kit, the gears are molded on the wheel doors and the engine and cowl are one piece. The panel lines do look nice and are recessed. I believe I got it on sale for $10 when our last Hobby Town went out of business.

Step one out of three steps complete. The kit fits very well and so far, the seams are almost nonexistent. The attaching pins are very large and except for some parts this would almost be a snap kit. The cockpit's fit is the best I've seen in a while. I couldn't help myself though, the vacant space behind the IP needed something so I installed a few wires to add some intrest although they are very difficult to see.

I got the wings and tail on and will procede to filling the seams. The seams are small and will be easy to fill.

Thanks TJ and Bish!! You guys are always so kind to me. Smile

I was searching for Gabby's mount and in June 44 he had invasion stripes around the fuse and lower as well as upper wings. In July 44, just before his capture on 20 July 44, the stripes on the upper wing surfaces and upper fuse were removed. I will be painting his plane in the latter scheme.

Francis Stanley Gabreski (born Franciszek Gabryszewski) earned 28 kills, was the top scoring American ace in the European Theater, went on to fly an F-86 in Korea where he became a jet ace with a score of 6.5 kills and retired in 1967 at the rank of Colonel. He passed away on Jan 31st 2002 at the age of 83.

I learned of his exploits on The American Hero’s Channel "Air Aces" (plenty of RAF on there too). Very interesting man.
