So I got working on the Phantom today.  Had to make some side glass for the nose cause I misplaced them.  Otherwise I'm moving along.

On Ed's bench, ???

It's good to see some progress 68GT.

I'm calling my 1/16 Tamiya German Infantry man with reversible winter uniform done. I hope you like it. That makes 8 models that have been rescued from the global Shelof of Doom by the participants of this GB. Here it is:

Cheers

Wow, thats a great job!

Had a little setback with the Phantom.  I planed on doing a closed canopy but it is so poorly fitting I have to switch gears and go open.  Have to figure how I'm going to spred the section between the front and back canopies and cement it in.

On Ed's bench, ???

Going have to opt out with the UH-60 Black Hawk. Wanted to start it today, but one of the main rotor blades has gone awol out of the box. Will substitue it with an Academy 1/48 F86 Sabre that has been sitting on my shelf for a good part of 10 years. It's about 5% done. Cant recall why I never carried on with it.

Is that ok?

Hi, might as well hop aboard.

This is a Revell F-15E that only needs some clean up and a coat of paint. But I've fouled up so many parts (namely the insides of the exhausts and front wheel bay) that I don't even want to see it. Nonetheless, I'll try to soldier on. I'll work on it at some point when I get the motivation but for now I have two F-16s tying me up.

One thing you could do is to use the FOD covers that are included in the kit and make some rear exhaust covers to show the aircraft in a "parked on the ramp" state. The could be easily made using tissue cut just larger than the exhaust out of tissue paper and coated with thinned Elmers white glue. Also, to note, the front wheel well of the F-15 gear doors close when the gear is extended, except for the small portion at the rear of the main gear strut.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

I'm a slow builder, and I actually went back and redid the engine.  Bear in mind I'm getting back into the hobby after a few years.  I did try a couple of new things, adding sparkplug wires and using bare metal foil to the air cleaner and valve covers.  Here's where I am now.

Change of plans.  Going with the Monogram 1/72 F8F Bearcat I started for last year's Weekend GB.  Here's where she's at.

Hi Folks,

Nice progress everyone. I've updated the list Gerhard and Lewbud. I've been away for a couple of weeks, then crook for a few days. Should be back to normal now.

Thanks for the comments on my figure.

Cheers

I finally found the pictures of my P-51B in it's original state. Now I feel like I can start putting the bare metal foil on it. These were from December 2014. Next weekend I'll start the recovery project!

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

Hey all!

I also have a shelf of doom, but it sort of runs at 2 levels: there is the shelf of doom that contains quite a number of kits that will probably never be completed, some that are just waiting for inspiration to continue, and a few that are nearly done and are waiting for me to add minor items such gear doors, armament, etc.

The other level is my work bench: at this point, I count 9 kits in various stages of completion. I seem to have the attention of a 2 year-old as I work on one for a week, another for a day and so on.

Wondered I might fit into this group?

Jim

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

Hi Jim,

Use the group to fit your own purposes in getting something finished. There are few rules here, just encouragement to get them done !

Hi All,

This GB was proposed to finish on 28th February, but I'd be ok to extend by a couple of months if it helps to get things done. If I get three people wanting it to continue, then I'll extend until 30th April.

Let me know.

Cheers

I would vote for an extension if I can bring Meng's 1/72 F-102 Delta Dagger:

OK, let's do the extension. You can bring that Meng F-102 in Jim, because I have one in the stash and I want to see how it goes. I'm going to add an Airfix multi pose 1/32 British Infantryman, that I failed to complete for the FSM New Years Resolution GB.

Excellent. The goodies I ordered from the UK for my F86-F are taking their time to get here.

True progress has been made already this weekend! No more prep work. Here's my first attempt at BMF. I really like this so far And what an improvement over my old brush painting attempt. I've not tried anything too complicated yet in that I covered the wing all in 1 piece rather than try and do seperate panels. I'll post more as i make progress this weekend.

Well It’s been quite a while but I’m back on the Johnston. I’m redoing the base because I didn’t like the old one.
Here’s the process for the base.
I bought some hard Styrofoam from the local craft store and cut it to shape.
Next I drew out the hull shape and cut it out of the Styrofoam.
I then drew out where I wanted the wake and cut them out.
Using a lighter I turned the base upside down and used a lighter to melt the Styrofoam and create the waves (out in the garage).
I used some printer paper and tore them in strips. I then wetted the strips and applied them to the base using acrylic gel.

I continued this process until the entire base was covered with the paper strips. The wet paper wrinkles and makes beautiful ripples on the waves.

I did some work on the base today. I checked the fit of the build in its slot then sanded the base and applied another coat of acrylic gel stippling it with the brush to get more of a ripple effect. After this coat was dry I mixed up some acrylic artist paint and applied it for the color.

Thanks for the great explanation on how to make water MC, it looks great. Are you going to give it some white caps ?

What colour paint do you use for the blue. I always use Pthalocyanine Blue mixed with Pthalocyanine Green. More blue for the Pacific, more green for the Atlantic.

I'm in!

Give me a day to figure out what one to finish...
