Dang Bish, your a machine! Awesome paintwork. You've officially passed me up :)  I told you that wing fit would be a bear. The tiny rectangular panels right next to the flaps on the top surface was a rescribing nightmare for me since I sanded over the details. I've just applied these HGW positive rivets and layed the first coat of green ish RLM 76 to the underside. Still bringing out some of the darker transitions between panels. I'll be starting on the top surfaces soon.

The positive rivets seem like a waste of time. They appear way too subtle and will likely get lost in the first coat of paint.

Thanks smeosky and thanks for the heads up. Nice work on yours, i like those open cowl flaps, wich i had gone with that option now. I used an HGW decal for the wing flaps on a 109 a few year back, that was a bit of a waste of time as well.

I like the results you got with the pre shading, i still can't get the hang of that. I tried black baseing the underside of mine and just lost it all.

I just painted my 109b and I'm lucky it's buttoned up. dashes are something I can't pull off. I just consider each 1 practice

I really like the blue with the panel and rivet detail!. and the detail on top is just as nice.

Thanks Bish! I tried getting the pre shading even more finite within the smaller riveted panels the other night. You'd think it was airbrushed during an earthquake. Looked horrible! Nice thing about that is another layer of the base color blends everything in. I think a low pressure on the AB along with using a slightly darker color or even a diluted mix of tamiya smoke and ample lighting will allow you to gradually layer it on. Keep the ab farther away too, that gives you more slop.  Oh, and I too was laboring over which cowl flaps position to do. I can dig both, when they're in it looks more sleak! I think I chose this only because I've seen more parked examples with them open.

Thanks BD. I do struggle with RLM 70/71, but this green and black scheme is not to bad, just got to try and not lose it under the weathering. But i am going to keep that light.

AA, thats a nice little kit. I built that a few years ago and added wing glove to give the look of a proper swing wing. Look forward to seeing yours.

 

Say Bish, since you built this kit a while back, perhaps you have some insight into a problem I’ve encountered.  In building the cockpit, the instructions show something quite a bit different than the actual model.  If you’ll notice in the first two attached photos, the photo-etched metal instrument panels (MA2 and MA3) are supposed to be attached on two low bulkheads on either side of the pilot’s seat, both which protrude from the outerbulkhead and have an angled top.  However, if you look at the actual molded parts (third photo) you’ll see those bulkheads don’t exist!  Instead there is a vertical bulkhead with cutouts in it, which doesn’t protrude from the outer bulkhead at all, offering no place to attach those panels.  Did you encounter the same problem in the kit you built, and if so, how did you remedy it?

The instructions i have are the same. Unfortunatly, i don't have the pics as i lost most of mine a couple of years back. If i remember right, i glued the PE along the top edge at an angle along the fuselage wall. I have a piulot figure in mine so can't see inside it.

I do have the NF version, and on that i will most likely cut 2 pieces of styene with the tops cut at an angle and glue the PE on top of those.

Almost at the finishing post with the 190. Next up, my favorite bit. Decals. Though i did have a bit of an isue. One of the upper wing crosses and both of the underwing broke up when being applied. I managed to get them on but with some cracks in them which i painted in.

Also, if you compare the 72nd version with this, you may notice a difference in the arrows on the fuselage. The Hase ones are to big. I did consider trimming but the angles would be all wrong. Ther eis a set of 32nd AM decals, but i didn't fancy paying £14 for 2 decals, so i went with what i have.

And then for some weathering and finishing touches. I seem to have drifted into light weathering in the larger scale, keeping more varied approaches for 72nd dio's. So, some exhaust staining and an overall Flory wash to leave a slightly grimy streaked effect. And all the final touches were added.

The sharp eyed amongst you may have noticed the absence of a spinner. The spiral decal completly broke up. So i have ordered a set of Eduard masks from Hannants. I've already painted the spinner white, so when they arrive, which should be by Tues, i just have to mask, paint, flat coat and fit it. In the meantime i will dirty up the wheels a bit and get it secured to the base.

Thanks Bob. Its my first mottle scheme in this scale, benifiets of doing it in a smaller scale first i guess.

I'd like to join in too please. Since I'm building a Dragon 1/72 He 162 for the Modern GB, I'll do the Hobby Boss one here.

Bish, wow! Your rocking and rolling on this! The weathering turned out great with the camo scheme! Also love the addition of the bombs and racks. Nice little twist on this subject matter. Few questions. Did you use the box decals? And can you notice any of the transfer film on the white crosses on the wing tops? From the photos you can't see them at all. Im always worried the film on such large spaces will be seen. Last, did you apply the flory wash to the whole model or use a pin wash strategy. I plan on using it too and am worried it will dirty up the model too much and be too difficult to take off.

Looking great so far, cant wait to see the final prodcut. Good luck with the spinner!

Thanks Steve. The kit instructions say to put the bomb racks on the other marking option. But everything i hav read said Rudel carried bomb racks, and i added them to the 72nd kit so thought i should add them to this one.

Ye, all the decals are from the box, and no, can't see the carrier film. I tend to use plenty of micro set and sol on my decals and that does the trick.

I applied the Flory wash all over. I tend to apply it to the front and then streak it backwards. Some of it was left on over night. On a gloss finish,m the trick is trying to to remove to much. Just start out by applying a little and and don't leave it to long. You can always add more.

And be sure to check the whole model over for any missed dark patches where it may have pooled. I have missed this on a couple of builds and only noticed after a flat coat.

Should have it wrapped up in a couple of days.

Well, here it is sim.

Got this wrapped up a couple of days ago with the adition of the spinner. I do like these spiral masks, much better than decals.

So here are the final pics.

And i decided to try out a different coloured background which came with the photo set up i got last month. Unfortunaly the different cloths only cover the back and botom, but just wanted to see what the blue looks like.
