To answer your question above, shamoo, I call them Monovell because Monogram had these molds before Revell bought them. Revellogram is more common though.

They both mean the same thing; Monogram kits made by Revell.

Ive been trying to make up my mind on which other Monovell kit I should build for my number two. I have more than a few lol. Your SBD built up nicely and that's given me the idea that maybe I'll pick that one. I like the New Zeland markings and it would stand out better, I think.

... Still time to make up my mind ...  :)

 

Lol! Thanks! I figured that. Just never saw it before. 

I tossed around the idea of doing the NZ bird but I was also working on a Corsair that was blue. I decided variety was the spice of life.  If I were to build another I think I’d do a pre-war yellow wing version.

Another build note that occurred to me.  I would wait to drill the holes in the flaps until after paint.  It’s a real PITA to keep the grey from running through the holes onto the red and vice versa.  Masking did not help much.

I've never completed an SBD. It's good to see that here Shamoo, well done. Are you going with the box top scheme for the Stearman ? I hope the red wing scalloping works out ok for you. Cheers Tony

 

Thanks. Yes the red trimmed one. Luckily other than the wing struts and cowl ring all the red is decals. I’m hoping the red paint I bought is a match. If not, there’s an excuse to head to the LHS.

Now I'm confused... is it Monovell or Revellogram?

I've actually made some progress.  Completed the SBD.  My first actual completion since starting back up.

The flaps, landing gear, bomb cradle, and elevation on the rear gun actually function as planned.  A caution when attaching the gear doors to the struts.  I had to go back and trim some of the upper mounting point on the strut in order to give the door room to allow the strut to fully extend.  Some test fitting would have prevented the problem.

Overall I'd give the kit a low A or high B grade for fit.  Detail is a little sparse in the wheel wells and cockpit, and the 500# bombs have a couple grooves to allow them to swing down when released.  I'd give my effort a strong B.  It looks like an SBD.

Moving on to my second build now, the Stearman acrobatic.

P.S.  Just noticed in the pictures that I never painted the cowl guns.  I will remedy that.

Ok folks I got back into town late last night and am now getting caught up in here! Nice work all around! 

Washes, dry brushing, and details all completed.

This is a good start. :)

I've been watching some of the other guys go through the trouble of searching out the original releases and reading about how the parts fit a lot better. Well it's true. 

I don't see this kit giving me many issues and so far it hasn't. We'll see how much more work I'll have to put into the Revell release at a later date, but this kit is just as I remember it.

Im probably going to scribe the engine cowling panels like I did on the P-40B. It's going to be a lot of work, but the effort will be worth it in the end.

Time to start adding some washes. :)

I'm sure I had a lemon kit. Revelogram never let me down that bad before. It was relegated to the ash heap a few years back LOL.

I never understood the separate lower engine cover. I guess that was the diorama option they liked to add back in the day.

 

They were part of the attraction when I was a kid. Now, not so much lol. I'll be leaving the covers on.

I'm confident you'll turn it into a nice build though.

 

I test fit the fuse halves and they line up well, so I did the same with the Monovell boxing and they line up okay. So far all test fits and dry fits have lined up with no issue on this old kit.

Ive got some color on it now and all the base colors are blocked in. I'll do some washes tomorrow and get some pictures up.

Well I was going to just build this one OOB but the gunsight was an ugly blob-like box-thing so I got caught up in making improvents. So far I've whittled it down to its basic components and remade the (what I think is...) a head bumper out of thin wire. I'm going to add a lense to the top of the box and the reflector will come later.

So I suppose I'll have to add some more details to the pit walls too. Once I get started... [sigh]

 

No way man. That P-51 cockpit is great as-is! Oh, ok, the gunsight could use the clear glass!

Been following this GB since day one-great builds all-very impressive.

I've picked two kits to humbly submit for consideration to join,,,,

1/48 AMTech P-40E built as a Kittyhawk (crossover for Bish's RAF 100th Anniversary GB) and the 1/24 (or 1/25?) Double Dragster kit-I'll  be building the Fiat Altered

i hand painted this beauty when I was a kid. This time I plan on making it the way I had envisioned making it all those yers ago, but this time with far greater skills lol.
