 Ok Guys Put me in for the Short Stirling B.I/III Airfix 1/72 I've always done american. so It now time to do something different. I know this is ww2, but, my eyes kept coming back to the Short Sterling.

I'd only completed one Airfix Stirling in 1990, began another spring 1969 but tossed it - the last model kit I'd prepped for building before quitting the hobby for the first time, still remember where I'd put masking tape on to spray the interior.

 

Check fuselage fit near forward cockpit greenhouse, kit I'd built in 1990 had defective castings. There used to be aftermarket resin interior parts for the Airfix kit, thought about buying a set but they'd wanted almost U.S. $100 for it.

 

Thankss I I've never built an airfix  kit before so, I guess I'm in for an education  I thought I could  do this fairly quickly and maybe do another, , maybe, maybe not LOL

That Stirling is an old one Ken, hopefully the newer kits are an improvment. I have thought about getting that Stlirling but have decided to go for an Italeri one instead, but hopefully that Mk III will be on Airfix's list for a new tooling.

Glad you like the badges guys. Looking forward to seing these builds underway.

The badges are gorgeous so I may get in on this one too either with a 1/72 B-17G or a 1/72 Ju88. Still thinking about which one.

How does the 1/72 Hasegawa G3M2/G3M3 Type96 Nell strike ya? (I see it's droping a torp but it also could carry 800 Kg of bombs)

I'm sure there wouldn't be any issue with the 1/144 Trumepter Tu-16K-10 Badger C

Put down both if ya don't mind. The Nell will be a crossover from the Japanese GB. No water though

The Badger very defenatelty yes, the Val also yes if its armed with a  bomb ;-)

The "idea" with this gb is to dedicate it to craft that used a bomb or bombs that were not propelled in any way but used only gravity to fall to the target, be it smart or dumb bombs.

For me this is a pure form of a "bomber" craft.

If you guys tell me that most of you want to incl craft that used torpedoes and rockets aswell I am happy to add that to the "rules" to incl them to broaden the GB base,no hasskes at all, however then it is not a bomber GB anymore but bomber/ground attack

Let me know what the general feeling is.

No not nessary, bombs are fine.

I was just mentioning the torpedo because that's what's on the box art. The Nell carried bombs or torpedos like the Betty. I don't need to add the torpedo, it had an underbelly rack for bombs.

If you don't want it that's fine, I have the Badger. I'm going to build both this year anyway.

OK well lets get the feeling from the other guys aswell, if there is enough interest I have no hassles atall to add torpedo and rockets :-)

I have the 1/72 Airfix and 1/32 Trumpy Swordfish aswell as a 1/24 Typhoon that could work ;-)

No not nessary, bombs are fine.

I was just mentioning the torpedo because that's what's on the box art.

I'm also fine with bombs only. Just mentioned the torps cuz of some of the Japanese designations. You can add me to the GB with a 1/72 Pro Modeler B-17G with "Little Miss Mischief" markings. She had a very unusual paint scheme for a B-17.

Its settled then, only gravity fall bombs for this GB :-)

Looks like 13 different B-17s Bish. The aft fuselage was just about ripped in half while doing a bomb run and the pilot was able to bring her back to the base. The crew chief decided to graft the middle aft fuselage from another wrecked B17 that was OD on to the NMF other half. The right outer wing was grafted also. 

I have to look up my references but I think the front was Vega and the back Boeing.

Right mix and match isn't it. Will you have to do an converting or does the kit give you the different options.

 

I have to sit down and research it first but I think the main things will be the rear side window type and the tail gun glass. I think the kit brings a couple of styles.

I am sure it will be fine Ken. I think its just when we compare it to modern kits, it doesn't seem as good. But hopefully you won't have any issues when building it.

Nice collection sofar, some interesting projects comming up it seems :-)

I hope my pro-modler JU 88 will be as nice as the 1/48 Revell BF 110 was, the fot on that was very good and the detail out the box was exelent, the 88 looks pretty much the same quality in the box....

I don't have a lot of bombers. I do have this kit given to me by a friend a long while ago. I bought aftermarket decals because the kit came with peel stickers. I've always been curious about starting this kit, but just never had the motivation.

I imagine the plastic is alot thicker on the older kits as well too . The older things are, the better their made. Sort of, now they can use computers to make them so I guess it all evens out

I am requesting a transfer to USAAF, I'll be flying the AMT Ertl X/YB-35 1/72 Flying Wing. Leave the Short Stirling on my list. I'll transfer back to the RAF later for the Stirling.

I've been wanting to do the B-35 for a few years now. I may be wrong, but there might not be all that much to do for the flying wing.

But,. I should say my Dad and 3 of his brothers were USAAF, Thats why I've always  built ww2 American Airplanes Bombers at that Dad flew a B26   2Uncles in 17s and another in a 24

I have both kits now. The Stirling was an open box, but still sealed inside. and the B-35 was still shrink wrapped.

Does anyone know how strong the plastic Landing Gear is on the B35? I know where to get metal gear for it.

ok this is what Im going to build B-24D in 1/72nd minicraft.

Guys I am having intermittant hassles with my laptop so if you cant get hold of me , Bish will handle all "issues"

Hopefully it will all be resolved by next week.

In the meantime you can all start by 1 Feb and please post pix.

I am also quite eager to start the JU 88 :-)

I know Eagle has the Snow White set for his 48th kit, whats thechances we can get Snow White and all 7 of the little folk

I just got the decals from Kits World War Birds set.  Off of eBay for like $13 shipped.  Great seller, I have gotten decals from him 3 times now.  Anyway, I'm going to use the original Snow White (the one with the pink top).  If anyone wants to do the second Snow White (the one with the red top and pink elephant), you can have the decals I have.  They are in 1/48.  I'm doing the original for sure.  When I got the decals , I read the instructions and looky what I found out!  The original was delivered to McDill AFB Tampa!!!!  I'm a Florida boy, born and raised in Tampa!  So it's a given I have to do that one.  LOL!  So if anyone wants to do the second Snow White, let me know, they are yours.  Now there is not much to these decals.  LOL!  The whole bloody decal sheet is barely bigger then a dollar bill!  If you want to do the research on the second one, her tail number was 240364 (42-40364), Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs-Pink Elephant (replacement) 43 BS, 98 BG Libyan desert 1942-1943.

I'm pretty excited about doing the Mono 1/48 B-24D.  I haven't done a Mono monster since I was a teen! 

And yes!  It would be cool to get all the Snow White ones in the GB!
