Okay, 5 1/2 hours in and about 80% of the assembly is done.  Just the little stuff to add on tomorrow (bogies will be painted separately and installed later).  I think I'm right on schedule so far!

I'm calling it a night!  Build will resume first thing in the AM!

Finished the evening way behind schedule. I spent way too much time on the pit. I put a coat of future and a wash. And a little chipping. WTH! Why??? I have to get paint done between the Sooners game and the start of the Buckeyes. Should of picked another weekend. If they both lose I am smashing the #%*&*@ anyways.

I must say that the builds are very impressive-they all look like there's a lot more than 48 hrs invested-I've been following-just haven't posted 'real time'-sorry

Yeah, same here....been busy with other things, but I'm ready to get my build on!

Tamiya 1/35 Type 95 Ha-Go ready to start at 7:05 PM PST, Friday Nov. 30.  Let the 48 hr countdown begin!

SD,

When you get it finished, post the pics. I'll file it under refused to quit. It will have some company with my Mini.

DasBeav and Bob,

Definitely looking forward to watching these come together.

I must say that the builds are very impressive-they all look like there's a lot more than 48 hrs invested-I've been following-just haven't posted 'real time'-sorry

I got started this evening-someone early on commented about how we used to pull Weekend Builds as kids-and in my case, it was always a race car (usually a drag racer) painted with Testors square bottle enamal w/brush & tube glue....so I picked an AMT Mustang Funny Car-built one similar 'back in the day'

Not a large part count-with some TLC it could be made into a really nice build-but not this weekend-will be following the instructions and minimizing painting.  I was able to get the body parts painted with Tamiya Primer, Testors One Coat Lacquer Gold & Clear Coat-hope to get the details on in the am followed by another coat of Clear tomorrow night.  Have the engine mostly together and parts primed, hope to paint in the am.

Well, let's do this. Don't think I've touch a model since July. Maybe this will kickstart me to finish two SoDs. My kit is a Hobby Craft 1/48th La-5 Soviet fighter.

Unfortunatly, I was not able to finish in time, the build took a good bit longer than expected due to all of the filling, the face that the instructions did not match, and there were no guide pins or markings to show where the parts went. I finished most of the painting aroung midnight, and my alarm clock did not go off in the morning. I will still finish this build and will try again with a different subject when I have the time again.

I began the build of Revell's 1/72 T-80 BV at 9:49 in the morning:

The first thing that I did was to fill the numerous sink holes. They were on almost every ERA brick, and a very large one on the gun:

That is it for now, I will update tomorow.

BrandonD,

Welcome aboard! I have added you to the front page. When you know what you're going to build let us know.

I had planned to start the X-29 Monday after I got off work. I decided instead to finish the Mini before starting something else. I have shelved it for the moment, don't know what I'll do next.

Hmm, I am probably stuck at home this weekend with nothing to do...

I definitely want to do this, so I'll find something.

Mopar Madness
Seriously nice job on that hurricane.

Thanks, Chad.

I may have had some issues with paint lifting, paint getting under the masks, and paint everywhere, not to mention the first 2 decals that suffered badly, but I had fun, learned a few things, and now have the motivation to continue actively in the hobby.

No more wondering what I can do or if I should try.

You and everyone else on this group build have provided much needed inspiration and encouragement. I really do appreciate it.

Now to figure out what to build next for this group build.

Bill - Seriously nice job on that hurricane.

GA - I’ve heard those Tamiya 1/48 armor kits rarely disappoint.

This look like fun GA! If it builds like their deuce and a half, it will be a quick build. Looking forward to seeing what's extra.

LOL, the wife is the first priority, if she approves then you can pass GO and collect your $200 Wink

She did allow me to go to the IPMS Nationals in Columbia, SC 2 years ago with $500 so I felt pretty special.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Eagle90
You're doing a great job!  I remember my big return to the hobby....I did a bunch of little 1/72 planes just to get back into the swing of things.  First few were rough, but after a while, they started looking pretty darn good and made it up on my display shelves.  It's all a matter of time and having fun with it!  Great work!

Thanks again, Eagle90. This one's going on the display shelf with my Panzer II that I did about 30 years ago. My wife was impressed so now I get to continue.

Now for the finished product.

Lewbud - Thank you for hosting and for your tip about drilling the mounting holes. That made life alot easier. I've had a great time and now I'm ready to start on my next kit. I might try another weekend build on the weekend of December 15/16 if that's allowed.

Everyone else - Thank you for your encouragement and comments. This has been great fun and I've learned alot.

Oh, before I forget, Lewbud, please use picture #2. Thanks again.

I think the paint job turned out great!  Great build for a return to the hobby!

Thank you, Eagle90. While I'm not totally happy with the paint job it's with the realization that this was a challenge for me and with the long layoff from modeling a surprisingly successful and fun build.

Good job getting back into the hobby Bill. Masking can be tricky at times but You'll get the hang of it. Make sure the surface is clean and primed (sometimes I negelect that step) prior laying down the base coat, but sometimes lifting just happens. Tamiya tape is a good choice for masking as regular masking tape has too much stick to it. Looking forward to your finish.

Thanks for the compliment and encouragement, Modelcrazy. I too neglected the priming even though I did wash everything before starting. I am using the Tamiya tape. it's great stuff. I was using regular masking tape in the areas with the worst lifting.

Eagle90 - that was a great surprise. Really nice looking especially the bottom crosses.

Chad - Yes, Rosebud is a really faithful companion.

Modelcrazy - Rosebud is not only cute but smart as a whip. We think that she understands english better than most people. Also very talented. Responds to voice and hand signals just doesn't roll over. The only trick she doesn't do.

OK, update time. I had some issues with paint lifting from the masks and paint leaking under.

Not only is this the first kit I've finished (well almost) in near 30 years but the first non-monochromatic finish. While the canopy is a mess (not pictured yet) and I've had some assembly and paint issues, I'm having a blast. I want to thank everyone for helping me get started back into the hobby.

Let's hope I can have a great closing effort.

Thank you!  And I'd like to add your build looks great!  I think the paint job turned out great!  Great build for a return to the hobby!

A "Watson's Whizzer"!  Definitely didn't see that one coming.  Which pic would you like for the front page?

Thank you sir!  I'll let you decide which pic to use.

Thanks for hosting a great GB!  It is always a fun one and we all enjoy it!  Thanks!
