Thanks Chad. I found the instructions a little confuseing and have had to read through them a few times. Just not sure what to do about the rails and so on. It gives you a lot but nothing on where to place them. Going to have to check some pics. But it deffinetly makes a big improvment.

Nice to see that masked off.

Hey wow, are you using the tamiya vinyl tape there?  I've used it for some curvey surfaces but never thought to use it for cammo.  Interesting.

Thanks,

John

A little light masking to finish the camo.

Bish, looking forward to seeing how this one goes together.  I have the red box version with a WE PE set.  Hope you have a good Optivisor!  The paint does look a bit complicated but it will be worth the effort.

Ship looks great Bish - I think ship builders are masters of PE.  Shot a clearcoat over the Defiant

Thanks,

John

I started work on the Belfast a few weeks back working on her slowly, and thought i was at a good stage to post some pics. I originally entered this for Steves British ships GB, but as we didn't have any ships here, thought i would make an exception to my rule of no cross overs. Like the Trafalgar which i also built for the British ships GB, i decided to build this because of have been on the ship. Of course, unlike the Trafalgar, Belfast is a museum so visiting her isn't as difficult as an active nuclear powered sub.

But, it does bring back memories of the late 70's and early 80's when my dad would take my brother and me to London for day trips once or twice a year. We would travel down by train and visit a couple of museums before heading home. Ad on at least a couple of occasions this included the Belfast.

This is the 1982 boxing, without doubt the oldest kit in my stash. No doubt i bought it after one of these visits to the ship, and its even possable i bought it from the ships gift shop. After sitting there for over 35 years, i think its about time i built it. I am also added a White Ensign PE set, should be fun.

The only ships i have built in the past are a carrier and a couple of subs, so this is very new to me. I started with the hull and while i had planned on fitting the superstructre after painting, some dry fitting showed i would be better off fitting the front first.

The front deck section extends to about 3/4 of the way back. But this is cut to replace the kit ships catapault with a PE one. This is my first PE in such a small scale. I have some real respect for you guys who build in this scale.

Also got the turrets together.

I then carried on the the forward superstructure.

And got the cranes together as well as the smaller guns. The 8 barreled Pom poms were interesting to put together.

And the mid and rear superstructures.

More soon i hope. The one thing that really concerns me is painting given the scheme Belfast wore at the time it is portrayed in this kit. Sure i will think of something.

Some nice building going on here

I have not toutched plastics for 6 odd weeks now and just can not find the moe joe to start the 1/48 Fury . I have been working hard to get the tooling for my 1/5 scale full composite P051d Mustang RC done and it should fly in 2 weeks so then production can start on those kits. (been 7 months work sofar)

I am also pushing to get a 1/7 scale rc Spitfire Mk9 painted in the next week so I am a little sick of models

Hopefully soon the "need to build plastics" will kick in again :-)

So I went to bravely do a freehand cammo with my new Badger Krome double action airbrush.... threads on my 4 different hoses didn't fit.  #5 is one the way :/  So I went the sausage route again and painted with the Paasche H.  Relatively pleased with the results - though it is so tedious.

And the refuse...

Thanks,

John

Wow, there sure are some great builds going on in this thread. I doubt mine will live up to the high standards set here. Well, anyway here goes. I decided to tackle the Lunar lander in two pieces. The lower (landing) stage and the uper (ascent) stage. I attempted to replicate the gold Mylar cladding surrounding the lower half of the module.

I painted the gold first and maked it off, then sprayed the landing legs and braces with MM Metalizer steel...

After the Steel has been sprayed...

And after the touchups a black wash and dry brushing...

Now onto the ascent stage.

Its actually a repop of the older Vista kit.  AZ Model makes a variation too. But, it has nice recessed panel lines and decent fit!

Good job on the belts Chad, is that an old mold?

Got the fuselage closed up on the Fulmar.  There was almost no detail in the pit so I embellished a little.

Mopar, thanks! The cockpit details are a combination of decals and hand painting. Most of the front panel detail is a decal, and there are a few smaller decals on the sides.

Armor_Aficionado, the cockpit on your P-40B is looking really nice. I had an opportunity to sit in the cockpit of a P-40B a few years ago. P-40 cockpits were made for guys my dad's size: 5'9" and 150 lbs. I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs. My shoulders touched the sides of the edges of the cockpit and I could barely close the canopy. My pants fit looser than that P-40 cockpit!!
