Weekend GB 2019-See you in November!

There is some great work going on here.

Well the Yukizaki is finished. It was a tiny model with some good detail. It was a quick build that suited this weekend's schedule. The decals were not decals but stickers sadly.

Nice one lostagain! I could really pick out the weathering in that 3rd and 4th pic. Shame about the stickers.

Wow!  What great builds!  I'm a bit behind the 8 ball here.  I found enough building stuff to get started on the kit....except all my paints!!!  I can't find them!  But I started the build.  Here are a couple of pics.  The second pic was taken aroun 1011hrs. So I've got about an hours work in so far.  I've spent more time looking for the bloody paint!   LOL!

The only problem with this GB is there's no time to look at anybody elses builds until your finished with yours. What I've seen looks good.

Ya tell me about it! I am easily distracted. 
here's where I'm at this morning. These seems are slowing me down but i can do this.

I had A little setback due to a silver base coat issue but back on track. I'm letting everything dry for a couple of hours and taking a break.

Once everything is dry I start the chipping and decals, then weathering.

Here's a couple of more pics.  Going together very nicely!  Hoping to have the majority of the building done late tonight, let it sit over night, paint tomorrow....which by the way...I FOUND MY PAINT!  LOL!  I was actually helping my little one in his room and there was the tote with all my paints in them!  Man, did I do the happy dance.  LOL!

I'm  6 hours past my deadline and still not done.  Those link and length tracks were a killer.  My motivation was lackluster though so can't blame it all on the kit.

Here is where it currently sits.  I will finish this and try again another time.

Here is an update from yesterday

I had a number of issues with the Vallejo AIR paint being way too transparent with both the blue and the red.  I had to go back and do a primer coat to get the top layers to look uniform.  The paint also seems to take forever to dry.

I am just now assembling, which shouldn't take long. This is a really neat little kit.

So far so good on the Berkut. Gloss is on. Tomorrow decals, glue on all non-black parts, and then dull coat.

I am just now assembling, which shouldn't take long. This is a really neat little kit.

 

Hey scottrc ive used the vallejo air alot. Your note about it not drying fast sparked a memory for me. Got a lesson from Vallejo at ipms nationals a year ago. What they showed me was to put it on in very thhin layers. the rep was painting a 1/48 scale spitfire. He started at the front and by the time he worked to the back the paint up front was dry. Really changed my experience with their paints. Also had better luck removing tape from it...i still don't trust it but it can work. Now it put on multiple thin coats. It just takes a bit to build it up. I've used their primers as well. They are even more Sensitive to thickness, has to go on "air thin"! Hope sharing my experience is helpful in some way. Cheers

Thats exactly what I had to do, spay it on in thin layers.  The humidity is nuts today at 86%.  Not a good technique on a build that I need to do within 48 hours.  But at least the part count is really small.  I used a jig to put the wings together and now everything is assembled and I'm letting the glue dry good before applying the decals. Started at 10.00 a.m. Friday morning. Wrapped it up around 3.00.

BS...that's a Weekend GB from a couple of years ago that I rehabilitated today in between coats of paint on this year's model.

Speaking of... it's been raining all weekend like a cow over a flat rock.

Makes painting nearly impossible. I'm not going to finish tomorrow by 10.00 a.m. But I'll do what I can.

31 hours in and the gear is drying. I still need to add a little weathering, dot filtering and exhaust staining.

So here is where we sit on the Val, a little delayed in getting started last night. The kit is a 1/48 Hasagawa kit and finishing it similar to the boxart, carrier Soryu, Dec '41. i was surprised there was no raised detail on the one piece canopy, either inside or outside. i'm borrowing the two piece from an older 1/48 kit for this build. Don't know how well this will get completed by 6:00 PM tomorrow night, but we'll see.  

I'm done with 7 1/2 hours left to spare.  Whew!  I didn't know if I was going to make it with the paint issues, but its done.  Thank goodness the DVII didn't have any rigging other than a few lines off the landing gear, which I choose to omit.

Congratulations to Scottrc on finishing his DVII!  It's a good thing you didn't build the Eduard 1/48 kit. It would take you two weekends just to get the rib tapes on. Which pics would y'all like for the front page?

Keep at it guys! Y'all are  doing some outstanding work.

I was going to start the F-86 tomorrow after work, but as I was perusing the parts, it seems the previous owner had started construction rendering it useless for this build. Back to the stash I go.  Don't know what I'll build yet, but I have basically four days off starting next Saturday.

Forgot the troublemaker G. Was about to call shenanigans on you, but you fessed up. Looking forward to seeing your Crusader.

You are all amazing.  I don't participate in this build just because I build when I can, but I'm seriously impressed by the work you get accomplished.  Fun to watch!

There were a couple things I forgot before sealing it up but all in all It's almost complete.

Yep, also had issues with the Air products. When I have used the primer and the metallics I have needed vallejo thinner and retarder to stop tip drying. Once I understood that (and the thin coats) they went really well.

Really like the Fokker Scott, great finish and a colourful scheme. Hard to tell it is a 1/72 kit.

The Zeke is coming along well Steve, great work fitting the silvering in the time frame.

Looking forward to seeing the other builds completed.

I first used Vallejo aircraft flats a few years ago and loved them.  I used saline as a dryer retarder.  I picked up the AIR brand blue and red with this Fokker kit and was instructed to use their airbrush retarder, which I did, and found that maybe with the high humidity, was why it was taking soo long to dry. It also took a long time of fiddling to find the sweet spot on my airbrush to get it to spray even.

I learned a great deal.
