Little update on the Humber Scout Car ...

Before tackling the warped hull, thought it best to get some strength to the body by attaching the underside framework and such.  Above pic is the forward suspension, the leaf springs being composed of two halves glued together.  Major seam to clean up here, with details not lining up square.  So added 4 plastic strips that act as strapping detail.

Above shows the three areas where hull sides are cut apart to better 'splay' out to correct warpage.  The locations are actually weld beads that will have to be reintroduced later.

Further to the correction, have slightly widened the firewall, as well as adding additional thickness.   The piece in the foreground is the part that sits atop the firewall.  A strip of plastic sheet was added here as well to ensure a snug fit once in place, as seen below:

here is a short update on progress (or lack thereof) with the W.O.T.8.

The parts come all sprues together in a single plastic bag.

This means that the bag is cramped and some parts have suffered from this at least 3 parts have actually snapped.

The parts are nicely molded in a soft grey plastic, care needs to be taken when cutting them of the sprues and using a razor saw is a good idea.

Constuction is fairly straightworward but the main chassis / undercarriage / wagon / frame (what do you guys call this in english?) is a multi part assenbly and alligning everything making sure that all parts are square is key.

I did and then again I didn't as you can see from the following pictures...

Didn't quite get the two main beams to allign which results in a bit of a warpage in the completed structure.

As you can see those Kangaroo rails tilt starboard while the portside wheel axle tilt downwards.

While I was up to speed I then managed to get the wheel axle out of center as well:

Oh well, strange how focus and care changes with a bottle of wine or two...

Having said all that I really enjoy this kit!

Since I have now left the "damage control" stage behind me I will probablly aim for tilted wheels and removable drivers compartment.

I mean why not, WOTWOT :)

Bronco does seem to have something questionable about each of their kits, at least the few I have built.  I've done a couple of their Italian tankettes.  Though they went together well enough, been told they are a bit too wide scale wise. 

Their A13 Cruiser Tank series is also well known for having shape issues, particularly the turret armour.

 

The only other kit  I've partially built/studied is their Staghound.   When working out some Canadian markings, was having trouble getting them to fit on the front hull glacis.  After enquiring about some measurents and studying these, I came to the conclusion that, although not perfect, the front glacis is not that bad.  The real offender is the hull  machine gun mound.   It could be a hair smaller, but the main correction is shifting the mound almost 3mm closer to side.

O, now i hope you can fit those in. I have the Chieftan Mk 11 so will be keen to see that built. And i have been giving that FV214 some thought.

I hope so too Bish. I normally go on holiday in May and I like to take an armour kit along so I can clean up road wheels etc while I'm sitting around watching TV at night. We'll have to see if Corona-chan has other plans for me this year though... 

Those are 2 great looking pickups there Gam, they should go together really well, being from Takom and AH. Other then that, I haven't got anything to report, and probably for a long time... Spring is finally here, so i'm hitting the outdoors as much as possible, especially mountain biking/cycling. Been thinking bout this for awhile now. Seeing as I have very limited energy, because of my FM/ME/CFS, so I don't think i'll be able to do any modelling for quite a while, at least till next winter. Even then, I have way to much stuff to do round the house. So for those reasons, i'm withdrawing my entrance into the group build (builds). I'm sorry if I have left you fellers out to dry, believe me, it's not my attention in the least. I'm still going to stick around, and enjoy your builds. Oh, i'm passing the builds to my brother (German Armor), he has the time and (especially energy) to finish them. I'm thinking i'll barter him a decent commission to build them, after all, all the blood, sweat, and tears (not to mention bondo ) cost money. Maybe if I feel up to it, i'll drop by his shop to tinker along with him . Thanks Bish, Gam, AA, and all others.

William: Sorry to hear you're bowing out. Still it's good to get outside and do stuff now that it's getting warmer. And it breaks the cabin fever from this stupid virus. Please do drop in and say hello from time to time if nothing else!
