Hi,
colour question for you guys:

The instructions call for Tamiya XF-58 Olive Green for the W.O.T. 8.
I have a can of Tamiya TS-28 Olive Drab 2.

What's your take?

What would be your prefered colour (make and number) for a June 44 Brittish Army vehicle?

And does W.O.T. mean Wide Open Throttle ?

Stay healthy and have a good weekend!

You know that's a good question!

I've got some US olive drab and some bronze green and had intended to use one or the other on the Comet. But after looking around I'm not totally sure either are accurate.

I believe the colour was BS 381C 298 khaki green but was also known as Olive Drab. I can't find any specific models paint for that colour, though seem to be plenty selling it for 1/1 scale vehicles. I think the Tamiya OD would be the best option.

W.O.T. = War Office Truck.

Thanks Bish! I've used US olive drab on my last few British vehicles but I'm reading the US flavour fades to a more brownish-greyish shade while the British fades to a more light green. Oh well, I'll play it by ear- to me if it looks right it's right.

Friday evening and the kids next floor have taken to sleep ( I hope ).
So I won't fire up the compressor untltomorrow morning.

But then I will do the snapdraggon excercise with the plastic spoons.

Until then, stay safe, stay home, stay modeling !!!

I have not done any WW2 British armour, i tend to stick to modern and thats hard enough figuring out colours. Would a coat of OD followed by a mix with some khakl green work.

Ye, i was thinking World of Tanks at first as well.

Thet W.O.T. 8 truck is a Ford design, but was manufactured in the UK, and therefore would likely have been painted in SCC15, (some also call it British Olive Drab No.15).  This British equivalent of US olive drab came out in 1944 in order to unify the look of their equipment since so much was lend leased.

It has been described as a bit more greener than the American olive, so that may be why the colour call out for Tamiya - well the wording on the bottle matches, but the paint inside ....  It's only in the last few years that model paint brands began bottling this UK colour specifically.

Mike Starmer, who has researched British vehicle paint colours, has this mix for Tamiya paints:

 5 parts XF81

1 part XF58

1 part XF71

Jack

Hello Svenne, glad it worked out to your liking.  Beer

----------------

For my Humber Scout, plan is to  have three or four of the forward hatches open for the driver.  So only those will I bother attaching the little bits of PE detail.

Jack

Awesome work everyone!  I think I have figured out what I'm going to build.

I would like to submit to Her Majesty...and Bish...1/35 Tamiya M3 Grant MkI.  I will be doing it up with 22nd Armoured Brigade colours and insignia.  I looked it up and the 22nd was in the battles of Gazala, Mersa Matruh, First Alamein, and Alam el Haifa.  She also hooked up with the Desert Rats during the 2nd El Alamein battle.  So the brigade has been around.  That and the stag emblem is just cool!  LOL!

Just a quick update on the Grant.  A typical beautiful Tamiya kit.  Going together very well.  Very nice kit over all.  Here's a couple of progress pics for you.  Enjoy.

I remember getting the Grant for Christmas when I was a kid back in the early 80s. I was simply amazed that this thing had two guns!

More guns make a better tank right!?!!

Or at least those guys who designed those multi-turret landships between the world wars seemed to think so... Hmm

All joking aside she looks good Bobby, coming along great! I lot less annoying than all the PE I've got...
