Ouch, I hope it's not too common a Bronco thing, I've got two early boxings of their M24 Chaffee! At least I know now so I can check before I put the fender parts on!

Hey Jack, how are you, hope you had a good Canada Day!

Gamera,

Good fix with those unforgivably short tracks!  The Comet is looking fabulous by the way.

Now where is that PIAT of mine..

Thanks guys. Hopefully this weekend I'll get the tools on her and the figures done or at least close to done. And some work on the base, I'm going for something simple here.

Bish, Gamera and Snake, fantastic work on your builds. I have been away from the bench dealing with an issue but I'm back on the saddle.

I figured I would do some kind of mix for the SCC 15 for the Firefly but I'm almost out of OD paint and have 3 more Shermans and an M10 to build so I placed an order to SB for some paints.

Gamera, your tank looks fantastic! Just a thought, you can rotate the tracks around and create a small dio base and cover the missing tracks with terrain material. Here is a picture of my KT with a base I made but my tracks are ok, it's just to give you an idea. The terrain can hide a lot when pressed into the terrain material while still wet.

Finally got some more work done on the Sherman yesterday. I’ve been dealing with a sinus infection since Tuesday and finally started feeling back to normal somewhat yesterday. It just hasn’t been my year.

The Sherman finally has tracks on it. All total it took around nine hours to build and paint a lot of work but they came out nice. I also went ahead and gave the lower hull a wash to tone down the desert pink and it really helped out. Kind of hard to see the wash on the photos in person it really pops out. There are a few areas I need to go over again but otherwise I’m happy with it.
I will be applying pigments to the lower hull later on in the build once the upper hull is painted to give it that dusty look. Should be able to knock out the upper hull today with little effort and then comes the most complicated part of the kit the fret of photoetch. I’ve already started working on folding one of the fenders and it’s not that bad.

One thing that was annoying is one of the hooks on the rear of the tank came off and looked for it for forty minutes and no luck. Thought it was glued on and would stay but I guess not.

Would it be out of the ordinary for one of these tanks to be missing the rear hooks? I’ve looked through my spares and don’t have any and my other Sherman kits don’t have any either. It is rather bothersome to know that one is missing.

Good morning men!  Just a reminder we’re keeping this GB serious - and military.  Right!

Frankly I’m surprised no one has posted this yet.  Carry on.

Hmmm it’s raining today.  Can’t work on the yard.  Time to stop with the silly Star Wars kits and work on something British.  And military.  Stick out tongue

Missing shackle seems it can happen:

Sherman is coming along nicely, will you be adding the white countershading on the bottom half of the transmission?

Thank you jgeratic for the picture! Thanks for reminding me about the countershading I forgot about it till you brought it up. I’m not that familiar with British armor so I’m learning something new every day.

Made a mistake and managed to mangle one of the front fenders on the kit rather badly. Fortunately I found a fret listed on eBay so I will be able to continue on with the build. I’ll probably take a break from this build till the replacement fret comes in later on this week.

please put me down for a OGF 6 Pdr (Tamiya 1/35)

I was givin this kit by a mate who got it from someone who lost the main shield for it.

I will have to make one from plastic sheet.

As for the rest of the kit, it goed together so fast I forgot to take any real progress pix. I got to this stage in about 45 min.

I might try a little base for it.

For the desert Sherman there is the official drawing:

The book publication Codename Swallow British Sherman Tanks at Alamein by Dennis Oliver, suggest there was alternate application wherein the wheels and suspension were left in their orignal olive drab.

Short update this week with the Warrior painted and decals added. I used tamiya acrylics and the green is NATO Green with a touch of field grey added. The black was done freehand. After a coat of Alclad aqua gloss, i applied the decals. The registration number is from an AM set for the Chally 1. This had individual letters and numbers so i could creat the one i wanted. They are a bit large so the one son the back and closer together than they should be. The convoy marking on the backdoor is also from the spares.

I made the callsigns and bridge plate myself. The callsigns are a bit rough as i had to paint over the black as my printer doesn't seem to like printing black on white decal paper. But seeing as the guy who painted the callsigns on the real vehicle is a ham fisted clumsey idiot, its appropriate that they are not perfect.

I have since made a start on the weathering with some dot filters.

More soon.

Bish, thank you for inviting me to your Group Build. I have three favorite British Army subjects: 1. The AEC Matador 4x4 Artillery Tractor, 2. The BL 5.5-inch Medium Field Gun and the iconic British Land Rover. However, I only plan to finish the Matador and maybe an artillery piece during this group build.

I must tell you though I have a prior commitment. I promised my wife I would remove the black berry vines this summer that have taken over our back yard. She knows I cannot multi-task, so she thinks it's either the black berry vines and no model building, or model building and an unhappy wife.

Well, I have a plan... My wife has also asked me if we can have another pet. So, I plan to enlist the help of a goat to remove the black berry vines while I finish up the M109A2 and M109 L23 howitzers I have on my bench and get started on the AEC Matador. The goat will become our new family pet and my wife likes the idea.

Glad to have you on board harold, the matador will be a nice addition. And you don't have to worry about completing it by the end of the year, as always with my GB's i ma happy for building to keep posting progress pics once the GB has closed.

And good plan to get in the goat, that will soon have those gone.

Theuns: That looks pretty friggin' good! I'd have thought it were the kit part.

Bish: The camo looks great, nice work!

Harold: Welcome! And the Matador and gun looks cool. And like those goats. I assume you've had blackberry pie, my grandmom used to make it. My gosh it was sooooo good, I haven't had it in ages though.

Thanx mate.

I wanted to try a few things I saw on you tube on a simple cheap model incase I mess it up.

First was the oil dot filter to give subttle tonal difference to a monotone base color.

IMG_20200707_130119 by Theunis van Vuuren, on Flickr

Then layered chipping and streaking again with oils, I think it gives a nice used but not overlydone look.

Next I need to skill up on figure painting and do the base for it.

Hello Gamera, yes I love blackberry pie, but these pesky berry vines have got to go sooner rather than later. The goat is Plan A, if that doesn't work Plan B is a tool called a Bush-Hog. One way or another those berry vine are history.

Bish, I ordered the AFV Club Matador from my go-to hobby store in Burbank, California. It was the last one he had at $44.00 USD. I have a good working relationship with the owners and they supply most of my paint and material. Can you tell me what Vallejo colors would be right for a World War II Matador? I believe they were used by the Infantry, the Artillery and the RAF. I'm not sure if different branches of the military had different colors or not, but it looks like different colors were used depending on theater of operations?
