Glamdring - Don’t give up! :)

Stik, I made a GB badge using that picture; but I ultimately narrowed down the badge selection. If you want me to add it to the badge options, I can.

My apologies John it has been a while since I read the entry information Huh?

I did some research on the topic and think we should go with "1951 Year of the Tiger".

There are various reports on why they were painted this way and this is one that resonated with me c(with the physchological aspect of the tiger looking mean). Jack

No prob! I’ll get the title and picture up soon. Big Smile Superstition never did the superstitious any good!

Sorry for bad lighting, it was a cloudy day and I just wanted to get some WIP  pics going.  I did some work over the weekend, and this is only the first 6 or 7 steps of the instruction book!

The remaing 40-something steps consist of attaching all sorts of little bits, which will make handling going forward a true exercise in stress!  Big Smile

Yeah, the tiger face was supposed to scare the Chinese who were supposed to be superstitious.

Plus the tiger is I've heard considered as a guardian animal of Korea. So it also served as a boost to the morale to Korean troops- or so I've heard.

Think I'm ready to foil my progress on the F-80!  Have had no time to do anything the last couple of weeks, but I did lay out the stuff to foil with. A sheet of household aluminum foil, 3M spray adhesive, mineral spirits (paint thinner), super sharp blades, and a couple of thin balsa wood pieces for burnishing.  Learned the technique from none other than FineScale modeler magazine--specifically the August 1988 (you read that right) issue.  There's been several other articles since.

I'll post more technique descripions as I progress (hopefully).

Will follow, freem! :)

John

Whichever pic you prefer for the front page is fine with me.

I need to think on the name and Where did I miss the contest?

Good deal. The contest and its rules are described under the GB description and the ground rules.  Big Smile

Congrats on the finish, Jack! The grime is a good effect. For the contest, what would you like to name your entry (kinda as if it were a dio); and what pic would you like me to add to the front?

Alright folks I am calling this one done. I added the washes (tamiya) and a final coat of flat (testors MM). This is my third or fourth armor model in 20 years. I do enjoy them for a break and this one helped me with some skills. I am trying to get better at these as  have some cool ones in the stash but dont want to butcher them. Thanks for letting me join in this GB!

Thank you Gamera!

Fyi The same person is selling a few lots of Vallejo model color for that same price shipped as well. The paints I received were In good order and had not been stored for long or incorrectly. I got 20 different ak's for $40 which I though was more than reasonable.

I hate paying $4-5 bucks a bottle for some of these fancy brands!

That looks really good!!! Yes

And thanks for the recommendation- I've not tried the AK paints yet only their washes.

I am getting close to complete on this one. I have painted everything except the tools and antenna. I used vallejo model air to give the tracks a bit of rusting. Also need to throw on the tracks and do some weathering. I am very impressed with the AK paints for hand painting (havent tried AB yet) on my first try with them. Great consistency and coverage. At $2 a bottle shipped I am happy I picked them up. If anyone is interested there are lots of 10 for sale on ebay right now and the guy will do $20 a lot shipped. I dont know him personally I just bought 2 lots of paint from him and thought I would share the info..

Alright, my Secret Santa build is nearly at an end, so it is time to pop the top on project #2 of 2020, the M40 Big Shot!

These sprues are packed in so nicely, I am a little intimidated to remove them for fear that they will never fit back in!  It's times like these I wish I had a designated modeling space.

I am really looking forward to this project though.  Hopefully it turns out better than my attempts with the AFV Club iteration.  Embarrassed

checking in with some progress on the tiger sherman. I sprayed it green and then yellow, a coat of futures to help my decals grip and then the decals. Afterwards I found a good picture of the tank I am trying to replicate and decided I needed to hand paint the yellow so I went ahead and hand painted over the airbrushed yellow to get a better effect. You can tell these boys were trained for war not arts and crafts (see photo below) which should make things a bit easier on me (you would think). I tried to airbrush vallejo model color for the OD and did ok for about 90% of the job and then it clogged badly. I want to work with acylics but cant seem to work them like the trusty old MM enamels. I just bought a bunch of AK paints on sale and am going to try them for some of the stripe work I need to do next. I will check back after I finish painting and prior to weathering etc.

Spent some time cleaning up seams and joints.  Really don't like silver plastic cuz it makes it harder to check cleanup progress.  Put some grey on to reveal any left. Soon it will be foil time.

Just a few touch ups I think.

Too late to join IN?  I just picked up Eduard 1/72 Mig15 and have had an airfix 1/72 F86 Sabre that has been waiting for his adversary to show up....
