For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” - John 3:16-17
John: Great job there on the weathering. I love the bent and battered fender on the left.

Thanks very much, Gamera! That's the tin-foil fender; I suppose it presents kinda an odd contrast with the other side, though. :)
I haven't forgotten the Forgotten War GB!
Been busy working on the M-26. Lots of fiddly little parts and work travel has slowed down the build, but its in the last stages. Just a few more fiddly bits before she's ready for primer!

Ernest: Looks good, looking forward to seeing her with some olive drab laid down.
Good job, buff! Are you going to preshade it all black with white accents?
I've done a bit more with the T-34 myself. For one, I airbrushed some small pieces and the track treads. I may post some pictures in the near future.
Man 2020 sucks!! Been crazy at work so bench time has suffered, but I have managed to get the F-80 foiled:

Under a month! I've GOT to post some pics. I got to work on the track treads of the tank by now.
Here's an old pic that I hadn't posted of the parts that I've airbrushed. Colors seem different because some of the pieces were weathered, others weren't.
Keep goin', guys!
Freem, how did you apply the foil? :)
Freem: Sorry, somehow I missed your post... The foil is really looking good, that's some nice work! Have you finished the entire plane by now? I'm looking forward to seeing how she looks all shiney aluminum.
John: Nice work, glad to see you getting the running gear up and well... running...
The F-51D's landing gear is on and she's on her feet. Finished up the drop tanks and attached them last weekend. Sprayed the rockets and am detal painting them now. Hoping to have some more photos up when they're done.
Just need to get the canopy painted (the masks I bought for it have vanished...) and the prop painted decaled and installed and hopefully I'm done...
Rockets are on, not the best paint job but they'll be harder to see under the wings so it's good enough. Not too much left, canopy and prop and hopefully done...
That's a real gem, Gamera!

Thanks Robert!
Looks good, Cliff, nice and shiny. Going to put some green in the wells?

nice and clean work.
Nick.
Good job, Gamera! It has turned out pretty well!
Some pics of the track treads done and of the tank as it is now. I had thought of using wet effects to make the tank look wet (post rain), but it looks mostly done and I really don't want to ruin it now...
John 3:16: That looks good! Nice work, looking forward to seeing her all finished up!!!
And thanks guys, started on the canopy parts today so cross your fingers I'll be done soon.
Jeaton John: From what research I've done it seems the landing gear bays on P-51D/F-51Ds were left in plain natural metal. The only painted part was the large wing spar that ran across the back of the gear bay that was painted in yellow zinc chromate. I'd forgotten to paint this- thanks for the reminder!
John 3:16. realistic looking tank.
Almost done!
Decals on and she's got legs!! I used 3M spray adhesive cut with mineral spirits on household aluminum foil. Most pics of F-80s I've seen plus planes I have actually viewed look pretty dull so I used the dull side of the foil. Pour a puddle of thinner then spray the adhesive in it to a honey-like consistency then spread it around the foil, let dry and apply. I covered larger areas on the wings and paneled the fuselage to replicate photos. The decals are the originals--bought the kit in 1986. The red nose needs to be brightened up to match the decal swoosh. Just need to touch up around the canopy and put the shark mouths on the tip tanks. My 3 yr old grandson is nuts about "shark airplanes" so thats why I used the kit decals. Thick but went on OK! BTW the technique comes from a 1989 issue of FSM!

Freem: She's coming along great!!!
You're right about the dull look of the NM finish, I always get carried away and go for a shinier look than is accurate.
Thanks for telling me about the foil method, freem! A good technique! Unfortunately, only one of your pics came through, at least on my end.
Sorry I didn't get a chance to contribute to this gb. Everyone who did has done a great job. Nice work.
On the Bench: Too Much
Freem, the foiling looks great. Thanks for the lesson on the adhesive, it it 3M77 that you are using?
Hoo Boy! One week left....its getting down to the wire! Happy Holidays to all!
Whoever said, "The devil is in the details." sure got that right! All those fiddly bits at the end sure slowed me down. Plus I broke a few of them, tried to build replacments from scratch, failed miserably and finally had to scrounge replacement parts from other kits. Finally managed to get it all together today!
Tomorrow I'll break it down and get it prepped for painting. Goal is to have the decals on by Monday night so that I can do some weathering on the final finish and have it done by end of Thursday!
Looks good and ready for painting, buff!Merry Christmas back at ya! :)
Ernest: Good luck! I want to see her done!
Just sprayed the final protective coat on the F-51 except for the prop. It's still giving me fits. If I don't get it right I'll just slap it on to be finished for the end of the GB since the rest of the fighter is done. Hopefully photos soonish.
John--Yep 3M 77 and hardware store mineral spirits. I've seen some done with Bare Metal Foil adhesive, but never tried it.
And DONE!!!!

Actually finished Christmas Eve about 2300hrs while waiting for Santa!
Thanks, Chris, for the answer. I really like the look you got. Wish the pictures were bigger, though.
