Good work, freem! Thank you for your contributions to this group build! Which pic would you like for me to place on the roster and what would you like to call your build?

freem - U.S.'s first operational jet fighter!  Love the F-80!  Great looking natural metal finish!

Paint is on!

First a coat of Stynylrez black primer followed by Tamiya Flat White - black&white technique:

Then base coat of AK Interactive Dark Olive Drab (Air Series #41).  Seemed a little to light and green so I gave it a mist coat of Vallejo Model Air OD to darken it and tone down the green (the Vallejo OD is more olive/brown).  Followed this with my usual coat of Gauzy Shine Enhancer for a gloss coat.  Here's the arsenal:

And last I applied the decals (the kit decals were old and cracked so I had to buy a AM set from eBay):

Already working on the tracks and assorted parts.  Pin wash and filters tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll keep on track to finish by EOY!!

For making the model unique, using the AM decals may be even better than using the orginals that came with the kit. :) Good going so far!

Thanks for the compliments, guys!  John 3:16 how about the first pic, the one from the aft end of the plane.  And lets call it something clever and original like F-80 real NMF.

This one is going down to the wire!  Two more nights left....but today I did the pin wash, flat coat and finished the majority of the painting, just a few more little details to go.  Tomorrow is all about weathering; probably just settle for some oil paint blending (dot method) and some dirt/dust pigments on the lower hull.

I have some last minute progress myself, after literally having to dust this project off.

The big step today was decals.

I am going to try and finish the vehicle tomorrow.  The dio plan with the crew has been abandoned due to storage issues.

Okay, she's done... mostly. I'd like to pull the prop off and redo it. But I'm going to call her done for the GB...

Sorry about the bad lighting, the sun's gone down here. I might see if I can get some better ones taken this weekend.

freem- Your build is on the roster! Thanks again for joining this build, and please be sure to vote in the contest on Saturday! Big Smile

Great finish there, Gamera! Thanks for being a part of this GB! Just let me know what pic you'd like on the roster when you get it. :) What would you like to name your Mustang?

Glamdring, looks like you're almost to the finish line! Congrats!

I've changed the contest voting day to Saturday (January 2nd) and am allowing models finished tomorrow to be contest-eligible. Hopefully, I can get both of your final pics and build titles on the roster. :)

Happy New Year, everyone!

Sweeet looking F-51 Gamera - luv the NMF!  I didn't know the ROK flew them during the Korean conflict!

OK, its just past 6:30 PM in California and I'm calling this M-26 DONE!  This was the first kit I started in 2020 but it's the last one I finished.  In between I completed 10 other kits....not a fact I'm overly proud of!!  Sorry it took so long all!Embarrassed

I had a plan to add stowage on the rear deck, but all I had time for was one little knapsack and a gas can! Whistling  I may add the stowage later, maybe not....

The pics aren't the best....my front photo booth light went out so I had to use the flash on my cellphone.  Kinda washed out some of the detail Sad

Thanks for hosting the GB John 3:16 KJV!!  I learned quite a bit about the Koren conflict while researching this tank!

Happy New Years All!!  2021 in a few hours!Balloons

You're tank looks swell! Thank you for joining us! (My build's going into the new year, so you're timing is better than mine, especially considering what else you accomplished!) Wink

Do you have a picture preference for the roster? How about a title for the build? :)

Ernest: Superb job there! She was worth the wait! I'm not sure the ROK had very many F-51Ds - this was the ride of Major Dean Hess- USAF pilot who was training the South Koreans to fly.

John: Thanks! I guess Major Dean Hess's F-51D would work. Not sure which photo is best- maybe the second from the top or third from the bottom looks like the best view to me.

And Happy New Year guys!

Thanks John and thank you again for a great GB!!!

Would join your African Front GB but I'm swamped with stuff- I've restricted myself to the four GBs I've joined- which are already too many. I am going to try, and that's the big thing there- TRY, to finish some stuff up this year.

No problem, and don't worry 'bout the Africa GB. If you do find the time, you can join up anytime in the year; but four GB's is certainly enough to work on for now! I myself am probably best off with a limit of one or two projects! :)

And thank you once more for those figure kits you sent me; they're great! I'm mostly done with the American troops for my diorama (except I lost the pistol holster for one of 'em :( Hopefully, I'll come across it again.)

Here's update photos:

I replaced the 30 cal. that came with the kit with a BAR; and I put tin foil straps on most of the guns.

I made it, and am calling the "Courageous Confederate" done.

As you can see, it is a long model and the reason I had to give up on the gun crew.  It barely fits on my display shelf as it is! Smile

Thanks for hosting the build  John!  If you need to choose a picture, go with the sideview because it has the best lighting.

You're all set on the roster; thank you for participating, Glamdring! :)

Don't forget to vote tomorrow! Big Smile

I tried posting yesterday and this morning, but my posts didn't go through...Huh?

Anyway, I decided to go crazy and finish up the Pershing the way I intended.  I added a tank commander and some stowage.  Sorry, no Korean War tank crew figures in my stash...had to use one from a Tamiya Sherman.  Legends Sherman tank stowage provided the bags and rolls.  Fixed my photo booth lights so I took some more pics.  Please use whichever you like from these or from yesterday for the final pic:

How about this for the title:

General Pershing Reporting for Duty, Sir!

Well, today is voting day! Please have fun voting for models!Big Smile

I'll review the voting rules here, but I will honor the clear intent of votes even if your vote doesn't come in perfectly. :)

-I will not be a contest participant; I will be the judge (vote counter).

-Voting will take place today.

-Every GB participant (whether in the contest or not) excluding myself (I will not vote) is entitled to submit one vote for the model/diorama they think should win.

-Those voters who are also contest participants may not vote for their own entry. They must vote for someone else.

-To vote, PM me on January 2, 2021. In your message, please clearly state the username of the contestant you are voting for along with the name of the model entry he built.

Please also note that the usernames of those who built pictured models and the names of their models are placed above the pictures of their models.

Thank You so much for being here, guys! Hopefully you all will enjoy the contest!

Contest Update!
This is a tight contest, for there is a three-way tie for the prize! Congratulations to the finalists:

bufflehead,

jeaton01,

& Justinryan215!

Because there is only one prize, we need to have one more tie-breaker vote. So, everyone, please cast one vote for any of the three finalists before January 7th! Hopefully on the 7th, I can announce the one who will take the prize. Big Smile

Please forgive my late announcement, guys! This contest did not cease to be tight. As it turns out, the tie-breaker vote resulted in yet another three-way tie! So, in order to break the tie, I settled on placing the finalists' usernames on little pieces of folded paper. After a prayer, my family and I had a hat drawing.

Thus while bufflehead, jeaton01, and Justinryan215 are all technically winners, the drawn prize winner is bufflehead!

Congratulations to bufflehead and to all of the finalists on your accomplishments! You all had excellent models! And a thank you to everyone for participating in this Group Build and for your patience with me!Big Smile

[PS- To anyone who hasn't finished their build(s) yet: You can keep working on it this year and posting here. :) ]
