Thinking of doing a Sherman and an M-26. 6th of June sounds nice

I have just seen a D-Day commemorative box-set by Airfix in my LHS. It is a collection of vehicles in 1/72 scale and retailing at £24.99

Are you refering to the M-26 Pershing? I'm not exactly sure when it went into service, but I'm pretty sure it was late 44 or early 45. I'm 99.9999% sure (give or take Wink [;)]) there weren't any involved in D-Day.

Hey, anybody have any advice for the group build patch? I know somebody sugested a tetchrahedragram or something like that. I'll find out what that looks like and I'll make several prototypes of it. Advice or suggestions are greatly welcomed!Cool [8D]

Maybe something that incorporates the flags of the countries involved with the landings? Smile [:)]

As for the patch, well what about something with the D-day Stripes? I know it was for planes, but it is the first thing i think of when you say identification for D-day. Either that, or a landing craft, or one of those funny shermans...

just my $0.02Blush [:I]

Stug III
Jadgpanzer IV
Hummel
Wespe

Even a Nebelwerfer

well I found something interesting in a book and the germans did use tiger1"s in normandy campaign however I found nothing of them using them on D-day here is a quote from it..." the 3rd company of sPzAbt 503 retained their tiger 1 tanks during the campaign in normandy, this is the late production version with the cast cupola and steel rimmed road wheels". and it shows the tiger and creww their tiger is pretty beatin up.

I'd like to do this one now that the date is further back, but I'm going to stay uncomitted until I see how my "past due" armor projects are doing. Then if I can figure out what to do....

Armor Master, Thanks a whole bunch for doing the GB and the patch. I was thinking a landingcraft or a C-47 with invasion stripes.

I believe he is referring to the M26 tractor (of the Dragon Wagon) used as recovery vehicle. I would be leery of even that in the 6-8 June time-frame simply because the beaches were so bottled up and the need for combat forces so great that logistics got put back in the queue to get ashore.

Ahh...okay, I didn't realise there were two M26s. Carnage, if that's what you meant I apologise, my mistake.

jratz, your observation about logistics is a good one.

Oh-Oh. Please tell me there were some Marder III M's there. That was going to be my build. Have one on hand.

Yah M1, I thought about the significance of Aug.6th too.

As for the patch, something with invasion stripes would be appropriate, and since this is going to be a inter forum build, planes would be acceptable. How about a Higgins boat? Can't help but think of Private Ryan.

Looks like it's going to be a cool GB. If I finish with my Towed Gun and Small AFV...I'll jump right in.

And I think I'll just be doing figures...maybe a squeal sequel of my previous dio featured in this thread...Big Smile [:D]

Hey guys, my ideas for a badge
Silhouette of a landing obstacle (Tsjechenigel) with some dune grass under it. (You know those girders or logs sunk into the beach to stop landing craft)

Or a silhouette or high contrast image of a soldier from the chest up in the surf, holding his rifle with both hands over his head like he's wading ashore.

MG bunker with sand dunes to the side and dune grass

front end of an LST

I've seen that one pic of the men wading ashore rebel.

I kinda like that one photo that I've seen many times of the soldier standing next to that large gun staring out from all that concrete. I'm sure most of you know what I'm taking about.

Thanks for the tips on the bagde everyone. I've been to rebels sites and they look good too. I'll come up with some prototypes and post them up for everyone to put their say in. Chris, I can't see the SHAEF patch, it's a red x in a white box-maybe it's just me...

found two sites that deal with dday. one is equipment (allies) and the other is axis units.

http://www.feldgrau.com/
http://wwwa.search.eb.com/normandy/weapons.html

there seems to be a number of sites with references and pics available.
