Thanks Gamera and Joe. My bench time has been very limited while helping our son and family move and now the wife has me doing two big home projects. 

I paint in the garage and that is a mess right now unable to set up for air brushing the clear flat on my Kurfürst. I should be able to partially use the garage by next week.

Joe, i am with you there, seams are the one thing i don't like about building aircraft, especially when theres fine detail close to the join. Never had to worry about that on armour and i am finding out its not an issue with ships either.

ust to show some progress at the bench. I've managed to get the fuselage halves joined together. I've got the upper nose panels press fitted into place during the whole body work/ painting process. Sanding and filling are going to be plentiful on this build.....

One thing that I do NOT miss about aircraft building is seam filling in smaller areas. The seam line going down the middle of teh bird was interrupted by these small inspection panels in front of the windscreen soooooooo.........gotta take care of the seam lines ont he panels themselves. I'll be using my tried and true super glue filling method on these and I'll rescribe the panel lines.

Zvezda: Nice work there on the engine and the cockpit. And yeah good idea on the cannon, I'll break them for sure here too. 

I did get a little more work done. Hope it's not too blue- I had a bottle of French blue left over from the ARL-44 and used it for the pre-shading. Though to be honest I'm not sure you can even tell from the photos. Should have taken the photos when there was still some natural sunlight. Didn't think about it till now. 

Nice work there Zvezda, that engine looks nicely detailed. Good call on the guns.

My 262 is coming on slowly. Splitting my time between a 32nd 262 and 1/72nd U-Boat was never going to produce quick results. I am getting the NMF on the main undercarrage bays and gun bay done this weekend, so hope to have some pics by the end of next week.

Engine, cockpit and nose gun area were assembled and painted.

The few PE parts and seat belts were just what was needed to bring some 'life' to the cockpit. 

wing cannons will be place at the end, since there is a little chance (100%) that I will break them during assembly.

Zveda1980, I've been thinking about those Eduard Overtrees for kits I'd like to build. I see that you have a P.E. fret and a canopy mask, as well as the kit sprue. Is that everything that came in the box? Assembly instructions are easy enough to get from Scalemates, so the build wouldn' be any different than any other kit.

 

Yes, the PE and mask were included in the box. That was a very generous overtree kit from Eduard. One can download the instructions directly from their site, in perfect resolution.

Some REALLY good progress on that 109 Ernie(love how the wash turned out btw) and that 104 Nick. You guys make this look all too easy.

I did make some progress on my 262 after being gone for a week on vacation. Just needed a break away from work and all the ho hum of daily life around here.

The more I work with oils, the more I like them. You can do so much with them.

I tiny spot of Burnt Sienna (or it is Unmber ) a dab of the ole turpenoid and bam, a very convencing rust spot, which can be removed it you don't like it.

 

I use them all the time on armour but have not on aircraft. I tend to use enamels on bothbut while i don't mind havignt o touch up damaged armour schemes if i haven't sealed it properly, i don't fancy it on an aircraft scheme, but i think i might chence it on my 262.

I generally avoid 1/32nd because I feel like I need to superdetail them. If mine looked half as good as yours PJ I wouldn't worry about that! Superb job, I love the engine!

Last night I weathered the engine area a tad more.

added the antennas, pitot and tail wheel

attached the slats slightly extended 

and added some minor foot traffic wear on the port wing and touched up previous chips.

Crown those 104s look fast just sitting there.

A short weathering update. Broke out the oil paints and started to blend in stains and streaks.

Blended the exhaust stains on the fuselage sides

More streaks and grime.

Gamera. many thanks the C model is about ready for gloss clear coat.

I'll third Flory washes, never had much luck with washes before but the Flory pre-mixed ones make it soooooooo easy. 

started up on the F-104G....

I'm a big fan of flory washes, that turned out well PJ.

I really like the Flory washes. They are very easy to apply and remove. Let it dry then use a moistened Qtip on hard to reach areas and a damp piece of paper towel to remove excess wash on larger areas wiping in the direction of the airflow creating subtle light streaks as you go.

P.J. Looks fantastic. It's amazing how they took a 30's design and made it heavier and more powerful armed platform even enforced wings for ramming bombers .
