Frank: Looks fantastic!!! Love the yellow nose too! 

Deeve: Awesome job there too! I'd never have noticed the alignment issues if you'd not pointed them out. 

Been working on the main gears, adding brake lines, washes, and in the process of using wine foil for strapping details. Will have some pictures once some progress is done.

The main problem with the tail for me was alignment. It ended up being a little cockeyed and one side was fine on the fuselage, but there was a step on the other. The tailplane was off at the root a little. we are talking like a hair off. But on the small scale its noticable. I put some putty in and wiped it off thinking that would make it better but it didnt. 

Nothing to be ashamed of there, Deeve.  I think it looks great.  I'll try to remember the tail fit issue when I get to the one I have.

OK, This evening a wrapped up my Academy me-163b Komet with Schech-Schlepper.

Basically I painted it with Vallejo paints and some Tamiyas on the fidley bits I had to brush paint. Almost everything that went through the airbrush was Vallejo though, except the Schlepper. I painted that with MM Enamels because I had the Panzer Dunkelgelb on my paint shelf. 

As you know I added some detail to the Schlepper. I did the same with the cockpit of the Komet. Added seatbelts, a strut to the canopy and the 2 bars that are infront of the armoured glass. These were just black stretched sprue. I did all the mottling freehand and used the included decals except the added national insignia from Aeromaster. 

I did White 14 because I love the camo on this particular Komet. I just wish it had a Gruppe insignia on it. Because it was in Erprobungskommando 16 it didnt. Looking at reference pictures, it doesnt appear to have a white nose so I left it RLM 76 with mottling.

I had some issues, The fit of the tail to the fuselage was a bit off and there was a seam and a step there after assembly. Also the rear window has a gap between the window plastic and the fuselage plastic. I didnt notice this till after everything was painted. I also borked up the decals pretty bad. I misplaced the balkenkreuz' and had one tear. Otherwise I think it all went together pretty well. I love doing luftwaffe mottling. I did all the airbrushing with an Iwata HP-C Plus. I just got it last year and I have to say this is a huge improvement over the siphon feed HP-BC I was using before. 

With my mediocre skills, I am super happy with how it turned out.

That looks amazing. I too lost parts on my last build to the dreaded carpet monster. Its like the dryer and socks. Somewhere there is a big pile of little styrene airplane parts. 

And I am with you, I love the look of a 109 with the yellow nose, tail and wingtips.

OK, the Emil is completed. It depicts one of the Abbeville Boys, JG 26 during the Battle of Britain. I've always liked that big yellow nose out front. I used Gunze paints for the first time and I really like how the paints performed. Topside camouflage is RLM 70 and RLM 71, the underside is RLM 65. The nose and rudder is Insignia Yellow since I didn't have RLM Yellow. The decals are from AeroMaster. They laid down really nice. The exhaust and gun smoke stains are pastel stick scrapings applied with a small brush. The whole thing is sealed with Testors Dullcote. I did lose the pitot and the radio mast to the carpet monster but that's all. Whew. Comments and critique welcome as always. Edit: This is a Hasegawa kit first issued in 1988.

Thats interesting PJ. I always thought late war aircraft had wood propellers, but have just done some digging myself and you are correct. I also thought that the wide chord propellers were always wood, but its seems that the VDM9-12159Awas a wide chord metal prop. Thats some new i have learnt today.

 

Yea I also thought they were laminated till I saw a picture of a bellied K4 with bent props and found the info on the VDM specs.

Bish a quick question. Would you know if the prop blades on the 109K were metal or laminated wood?
I have seen pictures of bellied 109Gs with bent blades showing them to be metal so wonder if the K's were also metal. 

EDIT: Did some digging and found that the K used the VDM9-12159A metal 3 bladed prop. 

Joe, that pit is just lovely, really nice work. I am hoping to have some pics of my 262 up soon.

 I'm building an f-104c in metal finish usaf,if i like it the G mod will be in metal finish but I do like the dark gray/ olive yellow camo.
