I really liked it, it is packed with detail. I've also done the BMW 003 for the He 162. I was hoping they would release a Stuka engine, but they have not done a new one in years.

Looks godfrank. Haveing an issue with an eduard mask that does not fit is a new one on me.

Finally! Some headway on the "Emil." For the first time ever, I had a Eduard canopy mask that didn't fit even though the mask was made for this kit. The mask is a mix of Tamiya tape and Eduard mask. It'll work. Painting begins before the wings are attached. Seems the BoB camouflage will be easier to mask before the wings go on.

PJ - Thats some nice detail on that kit. That engine looks really well done, it looks as well detailed as the 1/18th resin 109 engine i built, and those pipes are nice as well. Look forward to seeing more.

Thanks.  That's my opinion on this little bird.  Won't see much in the cockpit.  I'm more focused on the trop camo.  This will be the first German subject I've done in 30 years outside of the bf-108 I did last year. 

John: That looks good! Better than my cockpit, I used some AK Interactive wash for armour kits I had lying around and I'm not crazy about the results. Still, you can't see enough though the cockpit hole for it to make much difference. 

A bit of pit work on the 109.  I tried something new - using Tamiya panel liner on the pit and meh - wouldn't do it again.  Anyhow some progress

Not worried about the ejection pin mark on the seat as I have a pilot to sit on it

I was able to start a little on 1101. The cockpit panels were PE sort of... the metal was too hard to cut with a knife, I had to use wire cutters.The typical Dragon instructions were confusing on the fit in places but I was able to make some progress on the cockpit and engine.

It was below freezing the last couple of days with a little over 7" of snow here . My airbrush is set up in the garage so I put on a coat and braved the cold to get the RLM 02 and 66 down. 

And the fuselage is buttoned up

Looks very good John, and nice job on the reverse approach to painting the fuselage codes.

Thanks Joe for the heads up on the pin marks. PPP does a marvelous job on them. That 1/24 build looks awesome. Did you use the kit decals and if so how did they behave?

The motor is going together and those pipes are hollowed out, nice detail.

The interior fuselage has the ribbing details

The pit is well represented as is the engine having lots of details

 

Just for kicks here's my ol' 1/24 scale 109 build that I still have displayed in my bedroom.

That looks GREAT John! Just don't see enough of these early 109 variants being built up. I hear what you're saying about those counterweights on the ailerons. I had something similar to that on my Stuka and those fell off at the first show I took it to. I have no idea where they ended up but they were no longer on the port wing after I got back with it. I had a spare kit and managed to paint the replacements up and put them back on.

13 days in and we have our first finish. Very nicely done John, thank you.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. This one is complete, although it will benefit from a little work on the canopy after the paint hardens up for a week or so.

I took a step back after the previous picture and erased the fuselage codes which were painted with Tamiya acrylic over Model Master enamel, Windex took them right off without any damage to the RLM 63.  I sprayed a black field and then put on masks for the letters, then oversprayed with RLM 63.  I like the result much better.   I made masks and painted all the markings except the black swastika, the info panel on the tail, and the two black panels at the wing roots which are laser printed decals.  The Propagteam decal sheet lies untouched save handling for scanning.  I left off the PE landing gear scissors and some PE aileron counterweights, can't see how those counterweights would ever last even the trip to the display case, and they are too small to see, not to mention underneath.

Funny other than the captured Bf-109E I built a few years ago the last 109 I built was a Fujimi 1/48th Bf-109K-4. 

My paints and masks are here so I'm ready to start:

Report on the Bf109 v1.  Model Master RLM 63 was applied overall after masks were made and applied to the canopy.  The vacuform canopy fit pretty well.  RLM 02 on the canopy frames first, of course.  I'm too old to spend any time trying to get Propagteam decals to work so I made masks and painted what is on the airplane in this picture.  Once the paint hardens up I'll have to do some touchups on the fuselage reg numbers.

Thanks guys. This Trumpy kit looks VERY good in the box  and unlike the Hasegawa rebox  this one has a complete engine, full rivet details and really detailed pit. Was comparing both K kits and the Trumpy one seems to be better.
