Ok gang.....I've been working on this aircraft all friggin' week now. I've been busy getting rid of the interior detail/ ribbing from inside of the fuselage in order to fit the AM resin pieces in there. After accomplishing that and test fitting it's looking pretty good from about every angle so far.

Details removed:

The interior tub, landing gear bay side panels, and rear wall of the bay seem to fit well:

I test fitted the original rear wall in place to see how high it sat above the fuselage to ensure a proper wing to fuselage fit. Here's the OOB height.

and the height with the AM Aires resin piece fitted into place. Looks good from here:

So......I tried my luck with the wing test fit. I think I'm good with this:

Wow and triple dog dare you WOW.  This will be epic.  

 

Work and life have slowed my build down, but I’m enjoying the starts that others have made.  Hope for more progress during the upcoming long weekend. 

Thanks guys. This Trumpy kit looks VERY good in the box  and unlike the Hasegawa rebox  this one has a complete engine, full rivet details and really detailed pit. Was comparing both K kits and the Trumpy one seems to be better.

I'm withe Bish. I rarely see a K, mostly G's and E's. In fact all I have are G's and E's.

Will add you to the list PJ. I'd like to get a 32nd 109K, so will be interesting to see that.

A lot of kit there keavdog, a bit different to me MPM kit which is all on one small sprue.

Its the same on my MPM 109G-12 that i'm doing for the trainer GB. I have done a couple of older MPM kits and its the first time i have seen that.

Yes, Martin, one piece, like a lot of resin kits.  I'm surprised that there are no sink marks.  The wheel wells end up a bit shallow but in this scale it doesn't bother me.

Started on the Bf-109E 4/7 Trop - Like John, shooting lots of RLM02

I have several 109s to choose from as you can see so...... I will go with the Trumpy 109K On the bottom of the pile. The Revell K  is a Hasegawa rebox and a nice one too. Been wanting to build a K for a while so here is the perfect opportunity.

Coming on nicely John. Is the wing all in one piece?

The 109v1 is moving along.

Everything is taped up here for test fitting.  Compared to other MPM models I have built the fit on this one is pretty good.  There was a little interference with the top of the wheel wells to the fuselage.  The cockpit is assembled and painted and so is the instrument panel.  The panel is about 1/2 inch wide and the acetate gauges are really hard to see.  Probably won't be visible at all once in the fuselage. 

I've begun using Aizu .7mm tape for seat belts in 1/72.  PE belts in this scale aren't working for me.  Painted buff with Molotow silver pen accents.

The top of the wheel wells were sanded down just a bit and the fuselage was sanded at the aft end of the wing roots and everything settled in.  I had to square up the sides of the wing roots on the fuselage once the seat was glued into the fuselage, I think it spread the fuselage a little.  The wing is one piece.  The bulges for the wheels are very large compared to later 109's.  Hope it's accurate!

Every thing shown is glued.  There is a PE radiator face in the tunnel.  Very little work needed to get things to fit.

Dragon 1/72 Me 1101

I need to get with the program with my 109. I've been ignoring it to work on the Spitfire and a Panther jet. Probably tomorrow.

Luftwaffe colors are a real gray area for me. One resource will tell you one thing and then another will say something totally different. My resource says that the interior colors jumped all over the map around the 1941 time frame and only had one coat of color applied which would make for some quick scuffing down to bare metal or aluminum.

Current consensus appears to be that Emil cockpits were RLM 02, with the instrument panel in RLM 66.  By late 1940 - early 1941, cockpits were being entirely painted in the darker grey.

Also a note about the angular E-4 canopy,  these were supplied painted RLM 66 inside and out.  Once delivered to units, the exterior of the frame was usually painted to match the aircraft.  Some photo examptles do show a dark exterior frame, so likely a field replacement or just not bothered to be repainted.

What is the correct cockpit colour? I thought it was RLM 66? That's what I ordered anyway. 

Yep, the 109 is small. I do usually add all the detail i can to pits knowing you can't see most of it once its closed up.

Started on the Bf109v1 today.  This thing is tiny!  I recently built a 1/72 P-47, and I am just finishing up a 1/72 P-38, and now this.  I better be careful what I pick next or I'll risk lose the whole thing to the carpet monster.

So far it's a little interior work.  There is a pe and film instrument panel with several layers, and pe trim wheels which I hope I can make fit.  Also some pe seat belts which I have started painting, as well as some RLM 02 here and there and white on the back of the film for the IP.  I did some research as I don't want the luftwaffensperts to revile my efforts and made the determination that RLM 02 should be all over everything  in the cockpit and wheel wells but not the instrument panel, which may have been RLM 66 but could also have been some color called RLM 41 Grey.  Never heard of it.  Onward.

I'm still working away on mine. Not much in the way of progress photos but it's been mostly cutting all the resin parts from the casting blocks and sanding away all of the raised details from the landing gear area so that all the AM stuff will fit. Certainly isn't anything I'm not used to.

John: Very cool! Built two kits of the Me-410 years ago, I really like the looks of the 210-410 line!

got some work done on my Me210,  feels kinda like a older Airfix kit, some panel lines are rather wide and deep.  hollowed out all 24 exhaust stacks, I'll get a picture of that later once they are on the engine

Had to add a shim between the fuselage and wing root as the gap was too big.
