Sorry to hear about your friend Joe. Just lost one of the long time members to our IPMS club to liver cancer. They don't make 'em like Bob anymore, he will be missed.

Beautiful work on the 262, love the extra work you put into the gun and landing gear bays. Glad to see her finished up, sometimes it's best to work on something to take your mind off things...

This was really a great kit. Typical Tamiya. Cool

A couple of weeks ago I had a very good friend of mine lose his battle with the after effects of Covid-19. Stuff just left him with next to nothing for lung capacity and he had spent the last two months in the hospital in and out of the ICU and it was finally looking up for him the week before he passed away. My loss is nothing to the loss his wife and four kids are feeling right now. The oldest was 20 and the youngest was 12. My wife and I are helping them out by staying close and helpful yet still giving them their space in which to grieve.

It's been pretty tough the last week or so now that the out of town funeral and the local memorial services over so I decided to take today off to finish this build up. I'm pretty dang happy with most all of this build but I didn't like the way the sindscreen assembly fit onto the fuselage and would've only made things turn out worse if I'dve tried to correct it now. I might try to source another windscreen/ armor plate assy if anybody has one and give 'er another go. Honestly....it looks better in person than it shows in the pictures but I've gotta learn to test fit ALL of the parts before final assembly. I did just that with all the color sprue parts but somehow the windscreen being a separate clear piece threw me off I guess.

Anyhow......after 6 + months here's the completed build. I'd like to thank Bish (Martin) for hosting a great group build. Awesome work by you buddy. I may try another aircraft build soon after I get through with my AMT '67 Mustang Fastback build that I'll be starting up with next.

WOW!!! I've been out now for a couple of weeks and look what I've been missing.

Steve that E looks fantastic man. Just superb painting and great camo work.

AA that is one helluva camo job you've got going on with that 109 of yours as well. Takes patience and skills to pull that one off.

could be a promising GB ?

That never occured to me

ETO/PTO adverseries,. One of each side, lot of possibilities if it includes all types in use.  ie. fighter vs fighter, fighter vs bomber, bomber vs bomber, etc.

Could also include other conflicts up to the present.

I have plenty of GB's slated for the next several years so it would have to be someone else that proposes and runs it. How about you GH?

Here's the case and display I wanted to do with the Spit and 109.

I want to do it with a Type 21 Zeke Vs Wildcat and Mustang Vs 190 as well.

I haven't been very motivated lately. Kind of a summer slump, I guess. My wife has noticed my slump and has convinced me to start this build. I found this HobbyCraft "Buchon" at Jaxcon a while back and snatched it up. I had been looking for the kit for quite a while.

The idea is to depict an airplane I saw at an airshow in Ft. Lauderdale back in the '70's when I was a colonel in the original CAF. I suppose the airplane was one of the HA 1112 airplanes that flew in the movie Battle of Britain. At the time I saw the airplane it was painted to represent one of the record setting Messerschmitt pre-war airplanes, so that's where I'm headed with this build. That is if I can keep my motivation up. And my wife will be happy with the build because it won't be one of the usual camouflaged combat planes.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Bish

Thats looking good AA, would not have guessed you had issues with the fit.

Yeah, Bish, I think it's a common problem with ICM aircraft kits that have the full engine.  I've built ICM 1/35 armor kits with no prolems, but I also built a 1/48 Spitfire Mk. IX kit that had terrible fit issues around the engine compartment.  I was told by some fellow modelers that if you build the full engine, build it with the body panels opened up. If you're going to button it up, leave the engine out and just glue the exhaust pipes in place.  The Spitfire kit I had at least had the parts to build it either way (opened or closed); this one just as parts for building it closed, but it has the full engine.  I had to take several parts off the sides and cut/file down the top of the engine in order to get the body panels to fit around it.  Not cool!   I do have a couple of other ICM aircraft kits which just come with the exhausts and not the full engine, so I'm anxious to try those to see if they fit much better...

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with posting my WIP pics.  Lots more done on the Bf-109 F2:

Engine and cockpit mounted into fuselage, wings attached.

LOTS of puttying and sanding were required! (not real happy with ICM's fit)

Primered.

The canopy glass is one thing that DID fit really well.

Canopy masking done.

First camo color applied (RLM 65 Hellblau).

Start painting the upper side today!
