Pawel, figure painting is just not one of my strengths. Looks good.

Right now I have a F-4G planed in 1/72 scale with Spangdahlem (Night Stalker) markings.  I only have an Italrie kit in 1/72 so thats the kit unless I come accross something else thats better.

OK FSM, I have decided on a Gulf War subject...

I have been planning on building all the USMC Cobra variants in 1/48. So far I have the -G and the AH-1Z demonstrator (AH-1(4B)W) done. For this GB, I'm going to jump in with a gray camo AH-1J, like one of these, from HMA-773 or 775.

After this, I'll still need a -T, -W, and -Z, which I happen to already have in the stash. But those are stories for another time...

I'm also going to submit this build as a crossover to the Close Air Support GB and build it alongside a second submission to that GB. The other submission will be a kitbash of Fujimi's -J and -S to make an Army -G. The -G will be a little more work, but the -J seems like it will be pretty straight forward.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting started.

Happy modeling and happy New Year!

-O

-It's Omar, but they call me "O".

I buckled down and cobbled together some badges this evening, I needed a break from the modeling table.  I searched my childhood memories of what was ingrained in my head from the nightly news broadcasts, and I grabbed photos that hit on those memories.  The only thing I could not locate was a decent license free photo of the tracers lighting up the sky over Baghdad.

Hello Steve! Thanks a lot for your kind words! And those photos - they sure bring back memories.. I was 12 years old then. and those jokes about strike pilots checking out CNN for instant bomb damage assessment on their way back to the carrier...

Anyhow - I tried to do the "cookie dough" or "chocolate chip" or 6-colour desert camouflage and here's what I got:

Verlinden 120mm (1/16) USMC Marine during Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait 631

I'll try to take a better photo in the daylight and I'll work on the shading some more. In the meantime I'd love to have your comments on that - thanks in advance and have a nice day

Pawel, wow, far better than I could achieve. I like your cookie dough paint job.

I was in the Coast Guard in Montana of all places at the time. I was an electronics tech (ET) at a LORAN station which was owned by the FAA. Since the CG ran LORAN stations, there I was. I was in California as an electronics instructor during the second Gulf War.

Pawel, that is top notch work right there!

Thanks for the pics, Steve.  I'll make a 5th badge option with one of them.  Yes

That is a really nice paint job pawel. No matter how hard I tried I wouldn't be able to come close to that.

Hello!

Steve, Robert, John - thanks a lot for your kind words!

Steve - cool, I'm an electronisc man, too - I studied it, and I also worked a few years in elecronics (automotive) testing.

John - that's a very sad thing to read! What's the matter, what's going wrong?

Here's a daytime shot to show you the colours better:

Pawel- Thanks for your concern. My hands shake really bad whenever I try to do any fine detail painting. Being an armor modeler that builds mostly 1/35 scale kits, I don't have to worry too much about it. It really makes building ships and figures a pain though.

So, I have decided on a build for this one....I am going to build the 1/48th scale F15 C from Revell.  Ths kit markings are the ones with the decorative eagles wings and such for the Oregon National Guard, but I am working on replacements to represent a Desert Storm squadron.  I am also working on an A/M pilot, and possibly some details seat,  but I dont know what is out there and available....

I have added you, Justin!

I think I tried one of Revell's releases of that kit years ago when I was in college, never made it to the finish line though.  Dorm life was not comducive to modeling.  It is hanging around somewhere though, half built, in my model closet.

Hello!

Today is 6th of January - in Poland we have a holiday called "The Three Kings" - gives me some extra bench time!

Maybe it would be a good day to watch the movie of the same name, just to get in the right mood for this GB!

And I tried to lighten up the camo I already painted. Calling the trousers done now:

Verlinden 120mm (1/16) USMC Marine during Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait 631

Movin on to the BDU bluse and the boots now.

Looking forward to this F-15 - it's a classic of the nineties!

Thanks for reading and have a nice day

Paweł, great work on that camo.  The Captain is sure coming along nicely.

Mark - I have you down and welcome!

Can't wait to see the Challenger come together.  Bish's British GB last year opened a spot in my heart.

Robert - thanks a lot!

I have the camo painted on the coat as well. Maybe I'll lighten it a little more, though:

Verlinden 120mm (1/16) USMC Marine during Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait 631

Next I have to paint the kevlar PASGT vest - this will also be in woodland camo.

Thanks for lookin' and have a nice day

Sounds good! Not too late to jump in is it? My personal plan for 2021 is to build Desert Storm only subjects. I just finished up the first of them, a 1/48 F-117A (so I won't put that in the GB), and my next will be an S-3B Viking from VS-22. Pics to follow.

OK...kicking off. AMT 1/48 S-3A. Will be an early S-3B (still with MAD boom and all sono buoy tubes). I'll add a KMC cockpit, and fold the wings Big Smile. I might detail up the weapons bay and MLG bay.

So, I've finally gotten started with my first offering, the Revell 1/48th scale F15C.

I have not picked up the markings for it yet, but I figure I have a little time...

I started with the cockpit,as usual, leaving out the seat temporarily, as I have a resin fighterpilot and ejection seat on order, and I am hoping to make that fit...

The detail is pretty sparse, so I hope to hide that with the resin seat and pilot...

and before hitting the sack last night, I got the upper and lower fuselage halves assembled and most of the seam work filled

Whitey, I have you down and welcome!

Jusin, looks good to me so far!

I have made my own decision, will be working on Takom's T-55A in Iraqi markings, though I may change my mind between now and when I can get to it.

Looks like you are off to a good start Justin.

Finally got a start on my entry for the GB today. The plan is to modify tamiya's m1a2 kit and turn it into a m1a1 from the 3rd armored cavalry regiment during Desert Storm.

I ended up getting the running gears assembled and the tracks painted. As always, it was the most tedious part of an armor build and I am glad it is over with.

With a lack of am tracks in 1/48 scale, I am stuck with the tracks provided in the kit. Although the tracks for this kit are the t158 style and not the t156 style commonly used in the gulf war era, I ended up finding a photo of a desert storm Abrams with t158 track.

I also tried a quick mock-up of the anti reflect optics using a piece of the present wrapping bow pictured.
