Myrt has her colors on. The segmenred greenhouse took some patience to mask but came out looking good. More to come.

Looking really good, PJ. That canopy is amazing.

Thanks BK. I used Montex vinyl masks that the edges kept lifting up. I had to continually press down on the mask to keep it down  and quickly spray. Still I had several edges to clean up with a sharp wood toothpick. The Eduard masks are far better than this vinyl stuff.

Thank you fellas. I need to go back and retouch some areas on the fuselage. I will try to do that this morning since its overcast which keeps my garage where I do my painting somewhat with a bearable temperature otherwise it feels like a freaking oven when the sun is out. Kind of hard to do fine detail painting when one is melting away with heat.

Ha PJ, at the moment I have the opposite problem. The split system in my work room is busted and it's freezing up there!!

Trying something different this time, polishing the paint without shooting any gloss for decal application and washes.
Flory Washes need to go over a glossy finish otherwise it stains the area upon wiping with a water damp paper towel piece. Decals need a glossy surface to avoid silvering.
I polished the paint with a 1200 grit pad then went over with a coffee paper filter. What I got was a very smooth semigloss finish with tonal variation that should allow for the next steps.

The Flory Washes went on, left to dry and a water dampened paper towel was used to carefully wipe away the dried excess wash, it worked like a charm leaving no staining or halo once wiped off. I love using these Flory WashesHeart.

Next up will be the decal application that should yield equally positive results.

PJ your painting/finish and look of the wash, is a true beauty. Also thumps-up for such a clean & sharp result on the canopy. I usually stick the mont. Masks on a big piece of Tam tape and follow the contour with a sharp blade or scissors  to make my own. Vinyl will just not stick.

Thank you. I will use your method If have any more Montex masks, they do NOT stay put.

That looks great PJ! I love Flory washes too. Great stuff.

I've used both types of masks, the vinyl ones are okay but they just don't want to stay on curved surfaces. They'd always lift on me.

Finaly wrapped this one up. This is the Hasegawa 1/32 KI-44. I decided to mount it as if taking off. The landing gear is partially retracted with flaps partially down. The model is motorized so the prop will spin. The prop is a bit stiff , so it doesnt spin for long. Im slowly getting the prop to loosen up. All the markings are painted on except for the tail marking, the #2 on fuselage and the kill markings on the left side of the fuselage. This is not my best work. its a good 2 footer. This is my third natural metal finish and probably the one I am least satified with. The kit gave me a few problems and by the end I just wanted to get it finished. I'll post a couple more pics in the next couple days

Thanks mate. Flory wasshes are clay/water based and very easy to work with. Here’s a piece on it:

A little more progress done on the Myrt, more weathering yet to come.

Chipping done using a combo of hairspray, sharp blade and masking tape.

The prop got some chipping on the leading airfoil edge of the blades.

The Tamiya  decals went on without a problem but are very thick. Solvaset came thru as usual, melting down the decal film tomake them look as if they were painted.

Some basic colours.

PJ: I love the chipping, so realistic. PS Thanks for the info on Flory Washes, I will pick some up and give them a try, (if I can get them over here).

The Myrt is completed. I didn’t like the thick toy like loop antenna in the pit so I made one from thin wire. Unfortunately it’s hard to  see thru all the greenhouse partitions of the canopies. I also added a PE sight for the rear MG. The chipping  was done differently this time using hairspray but no water to attack the hairspray layer under the green. I sprayed the entire plane with Floquil Old Silver and when dry, decanted some hairspray and shot it thru my AB. The Tamiya Imperial Japanese Green was sprayed on and set aside to dry. I then used the tip of a #11 blade to create the chips along with using masking tape to pull up and clean up the chip edges. Flory Washes popped all recessed details. The cowling color is Tamiya Nato Black with some blue added. Artists oils were used for streaks.

Gamera please use any picture for the completed build page. Thanks for letting me participate.
