Real G

Neato Lola, Lostagain!  I look forward to seeing the kit built up.  Is it motorized or a static kit?

I worked a bit on the Buccaneer, and am happy to say fit of the main components is very good.  There are a bunch of separate "black boxes" which make for a busy looking cockpit, so I don't think any aftermarket will be needed Surprise.

The crew look like they were scaled up from a 1970s Matchbox kit, so they will be either be replaced or just omitted.

You are moving pretty fast on this one. It is really starting to take shape. Cool build.

Quick update on the B-36.  Much filling and sanding has taken place.  The main structure is assembled.  Starting to look the part.

Next up is the reason that I have been putting this kit off.  I counted 78 tiny little frames that need masked.

Even in small scale that thing takes up some realistate. Looks great.

Jawas.. hahaha...

PhilliePhan, that is pretty monumental...

GreySnake, that is looking good.

Hi Cbaltrin, I have made my selection from the stash. I picked this up in a second hand model shop and had to have it, even though I don't usually do cars.

Tamiya 1/18 Lola T160TS

That has such nice lines and the shape is so smooth. It is gonna look super cool built up. I can't wait.

And I thought masking a Zero canopy was a chore.  That's quite an achievment PhilliePhan. Must feel good to get that over with ;-)  After this you should try a Ju-188 Confused

NOW......... it's over.  Really hope this masking holds up to paint.  Some of the the masks are only a couple of millimeters.

I have to plug the DSPIAE tool as well.  This thing will cut perfect circles as small as flea.  Best tool that I have purchased so far in my modeling journey.

Well, I got started and I'm foing to have to figure out what I'm going to do about the landing gear.  I was planing on using some resin wheels, but as I was building I notice the plastic doughnuts in the kit.  This made me look at the kit landing gear, no bueno.  The gear has big nubs to hold the plastic doughnuts.

68GT,  You may want to consider a wheels up build? Is this a single piece canopy?

I was thinking that at first but I have to use some aftermarket decals and I'm thinking of using some VF-51 decals by Microscale.  I really want the eagal talons on the landing gear doors to visable.

I have some landing gear from a Monogram F-4C im the spares box.  They are longer but I should be able to make them work.

The Monogram gear looks muh better.  I glued them in last night and today I reinforced everything with some JB Weld.

Ive been looking at these also and was wondering about the blades used.  Does it use a standard type blade?  Havn't looked much but havnt seen anything about replacement blades.

The blade is unique to the tool.  It seems quite durable and could probably be sharpened many times.  Seriously doubt you would ever need to replace it.

Since my  Fujimi F4U is floundering as I ponder new plexiglass possibilities, I have started this Airfix / Mpc Spitfire Vb in 1/72 Scale.  Very nice box art indeed I should say. The kit itself is actually not that bad. Good shapes and raised panel lines are quite petite and no rivets!

The builds are looking good over here folks. I got a puppy for christmas and it has been taking up all my spare time. I have gotten most of the seamwork done now and aded the wings. The seams on the top and bottom have been this kits weak spot so far. I am layering tamiya white surface primer and am close. Most of the masking is done. Here are a few progress pics:

Looks good JacknewbIII. It appears the fit was not as good as Tamiya? Wink

The B-36 has the base metallic coat.  Up next will be various shades of alclad to make it look interesting.  There are very few pictures online of the early model B-36s.  But it had a distinct color around the central fuselage.  The Roden instructions call it silver-grey.  In the jar that doesn't look right.  I'll have to do some experimenting before committing.

Beautifully done roundels.  I think I'm going to build a Spit after the B-36.

Here is a chart of the different materials used in the skin of the B-36.  The magnesium areas are dull compared to the aluminum.  Aluminum was used for all the pressurized sections of the fusleage, magnesium for the rest.  The wings varied mostly in the fuel tank areas.

This looks great. I think painting masks are the only way to go now. More work, but the look is far superior.
