So I repainted the rufe again Indifferent but now I like it.  Got the clearcoat/decals/dull coat on.  Can't decide on which wash to apply so testing sand & grey.

Thanks,

John

First time I ever had negative results from Flory wash - must be incomplete clearcoat on the bottom.  Went with old pastels for light weathering.

BTW - first model done in the new house.  Been about a year!

Anyhow - she's done.  Pick whichever pic you like for the front page

Lots of residue left over from the Flory wash...not sure what happend but I figured the bottom of a seaplane would be dirty anyway :)

Thanks,

John

WOW! You did a beautiful job on her John!!! Kudos sir!

I wouldn't worry about the lower side too much. Sorry you went though so much trouble but sometimes you have to redo her till you get her how you like.

Just updated the front page.

Thanks!  Pleased with it overall for my first kit (due to relocating) in a year.  Though I need to change out the antenna wire - looks like rebar lol

Thanks,

John

Dear fellows

Today I decided to start the kit.

I gathered my references, pulled out my PE set and masks

and then I (finally) noticed THIS:

One fuselage half is missing! And this is the first time I take the sprues out of the box!

Now that's a part I surely cannot scratch build....

OUCH!!! Indifferent

Zvezda, did you buy the kit new without the missing starboard fuselage piece or did you get the kit secondhand and someone took the part out of the box????

Do you want to find another entry?

Cliff I bought it from the physical store of the HASEGAWA dealer, some years ago. Unfortunatelly the store closed after the owner passed away (he was a legend and a pioneer in the local modelling community and Nobody knows what happened to his trully impressive stock of HAS & TAM kits).

I will not give up, I will try to find a replacement sprue (some day somehow).

For the moment, I will enter this Group Build with a Zero 21, again 1:48 HASEGAWA

Maybe set in a hot & humid Celebes scenery

Wow, I've bought second-hand kits with missing parts but never a new one. Hope can get your hands on the missing sprue here too!

The Zero looks cool though, just added it to the roster.

Looks like it would have been a fun project. Hope you can locate a replacement sprue!

Over the last two weeks I pulled the O-I back out and started on the camo. Finished spraying it in one day and ripped the masking off to avoid paint ridges. Finished up the decals earlier this week. Now she's got a nice coat of shiney varnish and I ordered some pre-mixed washes since I've never had much luck mixing my own. Hopefully they'll be here early next week.

Cockpit of the zeke, assembled and painted with XF-71.

Acouple of tubing & wires were installed, to make things look a bit busier.

PE parts were applied, some levers and paint on details will follow.

The seat was also drilled out

Btw I run out of CA and glued some PE parts with elmer's glue...Embarrassed

Thanks Zvezda!

And your Zero is coming along great, really nice work on the cockpit. White glue should be fine for PE parts if you're not putting any stress on them.

It's interesting that this occurred, as I was working on a 1/72 Hasegawa jet kit  and  the upper half of the fuselage was not included in it.  It was a new kit with the sealing stickers untouched and all bags still vac sealed.

I tried finding a replacement site, since Hasegawa was not of any help, but for the cost of the one part with shipping was pretty much the same as buying a 2nd kit off Ebay.

It makes me wonder how many more Hasegawa kits in my stash are missing a sprue.

Hearing Glamdring and Zvezda's report of missing parts, that reminded me of a missing set of decals from what appeared to be a sealed Hasegawa A6M5 I did for JGB IX.  I thought it was just a mistake, but now I'm not so sure.

Going to check what few Hasegawa kits I have in my stash.

Maybe somebody at the packaging line was trying to create a frankenstein kit off stolen parts. If you see an Oscar with F-16 wings, Zeke canopy and 6 Merlin engines loaded with sidewinders, he's our culprit.

Finally got around to announcing and starting my project, a 1/72 Hasegawa Ki61-I Tony.

Not much to it, 2 sprues and about 30 parts. Fortunately everything was included in the box.  Smile

A day of work already has the office painted, installed, and buttoned up.

I didn't bother with any other pictures, since the cockpit is litterally nothing but the floor with seat molded to it and a 2nd piece for the seat back.  No other interior detail is present.  There is a pilot that I will paint up and drop in though to fill up the void though.

So glad to see progress in this GB.  Well, I finally finished mine, actually at least a month back, but as always, slow on the pictures dept.

This was the plane I was trying to model, a captured Shinden prototype after the Allies went into Japan.  It was damaged in bombings, and this picture was taken during the restoration with new panels, but not repainted yet.  I thought this would be interesting take on this airplane.

Same plane, fully restored.

Robert: She's lookin' good! And I argue, not much point spending too much time detailing a cockpit you can barely see.

Waikong: Great show there! I love the mix of painted and unpainted panels! Great idea there! Just posted you to the front page and thanks for joining us!

TY Gamera, these GB really help give me incentive to take an old kit like this off the stash.  Another great Japanese GB.  Appreciate all the effort you put into these.

Waikong: Fantastic painting and overall look of this Lightning. Ditto for the unpainted panels.

Robert: Nice and speedy progress. Looking forward to seeing the rest and completion. NMF I suppose?

Last years I cannot find these nice 72 HAS kits in the local market...

Some progress on the Zeke.

Engine was assembled (including fixing some broken bits). Lead and copper wires were placed all over for a 'mechanical-mess' look. Then painted with Vallejo acrylic metal mixes. Washed with acrylic black and an AMMO 'Fuel stains' brusher.

Seat belts and seat installed in cockpit.

Fuselage, cockpit & wings dry fitted and then Taniya extra thin took over.

Some putty was used to make sure 100% there will be no small gap. Fit was generally nice.
