That Puffin looks nice!!!!!.............and that was qucik!!!
Gee, did you go to special school to learn how to work with that foam thingie?
Sometimes I wanna quit seeing you guys do those ships so fast. :(

Anyways, keep up the good work. If you can cast it, I'll buy a copy.

WHOO HOO!!! Woody just approved the design I want to do! Big Smile [:D]
I hold no responsibility nor acolades for the design. It's something that I picked up on the net a few years ago after the first shot of the NX-01 came out in TV Guide. I always wnated to get this one done, & now this will give the the push to do it, with a good time frame to still have some nice detail in it.
This is someone's idea of what the NX should have looked like- a little smoother & definantly more "pre-Kirk".
Woody should have a pic of the "Pre-TOS NX" posted shortly at the top for all to see. Meanwhile, you can check it out here:

Ok...I started on my project today. I enlargened the Puffin profile to 1/72 scale and am using 10lb density REN foam for the body and fairings. I need to finish the exhaust nozzles and build the landing gear before painting.

Ok,
I've abandoned the Wasp Class tranport and the Wasp Class cruiser to prevent conflicts.
I'll do those projects sometime next year. Those shuttle SRBs are quite heavy and I'll be installing some square tubing to keep them from sagging/snapping. Still, I don't like that pillbottle secondary hull. Oh well, what the heck!.

I have one of two ships that I'd like to do, but the thing is that both were never in any novel, TV show, movie, etc. Both are Trek designs- one is a fan creation, & one is an unrealized design by Rick Sternbach. Woody, if I send you/post the pics, can you let me know if the subjects would be okay?

Oh, & Picard's shuttle/dune buggy from Nemesis was called the Argo. You were close! Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

I really appreciate it. The Sci-Fi forum is so small we never had the problem of too many GB's overpowering the posts.
Thanks for listening.

Woody, if its ok with you I'd like to change my scratchbuild project ( since I'm slow and haven't started yet! ) to a fighter called the Puffin off of the Starfleet Museum site. I gonna try to carve this one out of high density foam...

Thanks, Dan

Hey guys I thought I'd show this guys project. He's not in the build but his work is very interesting. It is another ship from "The Chronicals of Space Flight". http://laurenoliver.tripod.com/models/trek/tc.html

Here is the Starship Modeler forum thread where I found this project. http://starshipmodeler.net/cgi-bin/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=229965#229965229965

A-7.
I got my spheres from Plastruct.com When you visit their web site, just make sure you look carefully at their charts which give you several dimensions on the spheres themselves, like inside and outside diameter measurements.
I wanted to add my Polar Lights 1/1000 Enterprise nacelles to my Daedalus/Wasp class vessels, but I'll have to modify them a bit so they wouldn't look too advanced. I don't have the skills to make "accurate" ships yet, so kitbashing them is the best approach for now. Also, modifying the nacelles would throw off anyone trying to comment that the nacelles and ship scales do not match :P . If I were to display a Wasp class vessel at 1/1000 scale next to PL's Enterprise, it would be just a bit over 5 inches long, its main hull being about 2 inches in diameter. I would love to know who would make decals that small. It owuld really be a jewel.

Happy Kitbashing and ignore the typos :P

Aurora 7,
I wish I knew you were looking for a sphere, I would have send you one. I've been off the board since I am having pc problems. I need to format and reinstall my OS. I am building a Daedalus, but I am not happy with its secondary hull design. I looks like a pill bottle or something. I am considering doing a USS Wasp style ship, with a different name. I'll see if JT Graphics is willing to make some decals for it. Once I am done with it, I'll tackle the Daedalus. This is my first scratchbuild. The Wasp three-nacelle ship seems pretty simple to build. I need some experience.
Happy Kitbashing,

Hi Group,

I finally got off my duff and started working on this after finishing some other irons I had in the fire. I also set up a Photo Hosting set up so I can let you see what the heck I am doing. I chose the Uss Wasp and decided to open the Shuttle Bay doors and light it up from inside and out. This will no doubt require more than one trip to Radio Shack. Since I am cheap I will be looking for as much freebie stuff fo the model as possible.

I used a set of plans from the Star Fleet Museum site to start the project. One of my few regrets is that I won't be able to show the Giant Tribble, Large Rolling Rock or MacIntosh installations in this build. I choses .040 Sheet styrene for the decks and cut them out with a #11 Xacto blade with the clear blank CD from an old sleeve of CD's as a guide. All my pencil markings are on what will be the underside of the deck, keeps the working side clean.

Looking sweet A7 and your bench looks like mine just neater. I've been getting ready for a show so all I got so far are the main hull sides marked and scribed in acrylic sheet but after saturday this gets all my attention (along with the Normandy Gb, the carving GB, the kid's, dog wife etc.). Beleive it or not I enjoy multible projects when one becomes tedious I move to the next and come back to it when I ready.

FINALLY! I found a sphere to use for my ship!. I was suprised to have such a hard time to find a suitable material for my primary hull. I Ffnally found it at a party/craft supply place on line (after long searches on Google). I needed 6.5 " for a 1/350 scale subject but this 6" sphere will have to do.
