If you all don't mind I'd like to join this build. I just happened to stumble upon it today. Last week I purchased Revell-Monograms #38 M&M's Ford Taurus driven by Elliot Sadler. It seems that this kit would fit in here rather nicely.

Here's my plan. Slixx decals, Detail Master window net, hood pins, seatbelt harness, hood tethers, window clips and maybe hood hinges (haven't decided on the last one yet). I'm also scratchbuilding spoiler adjustment rods.

So far I've thinned the spoiler and cut out the slot for the template. I sanded the body, primed and painted it Testors bright yellow. As you can see I've also decaled and clear coated it. Next I will add the pins to the rear deck lid, drill out the fuel vent and paint it and add the spoiler rods. The hood is not done because it fit like crap. I drilled the holes for the pins in it. I had to add a lot of strip styrene to the hood and reshape it to get it to fit correctly. It's coming along. I've also started in on the chassis. I've cleaned up all the roll cage parts of mold lines. I removed the molded window net and mounted the hardware for the new one. The new one is finished and waiting for installation.

That's it for now. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks
Darren

darrenbb ,
The buld is looking very nice. Big Smile [:D] nicholma I hate when a paint job doesn't turn out.Disapprove [V] Well i through tthat i'd let you guys know that I'v finished the nissian R90V. It didn't turn out all that well. Allof the white sections are decals and are partly transperent. They allow the red of the body to shabow the white slightly. I used that kit as a bit of a test to try out using the micro scale set and sol. I was impressed with the results. I would post pix for you guys to critices me with but i don't have a dig cam.Disapprove [V] Hopefully I will get a coat of white on the Fw07 this week.

Cheers Trev

Re: R-CMan73-
thx, but sorry to say the fuzzy picture was better that the surface of the 'cuda, which spent Sat. evening in a bath of Castrol's de-greaser-worked well.
Washed and primed yesterday-will wait till this weekend to sand and put down the gold base coat-however, I'm considering using an automotive lacquer touch-up paint. Chrysler, GM & Ford both have colors that are very close to the candly apple red over gold that I'm going for. Appriciate any input on that option.

In the meantime, I'll work on the Spitfire for the Monogram group build.

Later

Alright everybody I am back at the workbench knee deep with building the Bud #8 Chevy Monte Carlo of Dale Earnhardt Jr. I am going to do this build as my first Dio. I hope that you all will like the turnout of this build. I will have some pix up soon.

Remember this is my first attempt at a dio.

Finally, some more progress to report.

First, the rebuilt suspension. It looks like the orginal one piece unit, which I guess is a good thing, but the one piece unit was cut into pieces and rebuilt to be functional for left and right steering.

The wheels had the backs cut out, the front had disc brakes added and the back will have drum brakes added when they get mounted to the car.

The engine in it's initial stages of being built. Some detail wiring and plumbing will be added but not overkill. The oil filler tubes were made and added to the valve covers, the pins that stick out from that are for the ventilation hoses. Sorry for the bad pic...

And a new shot of the interior. The dash panel had very little detail. The rings/bezels around the guages didn't exist at all. They are made from small diameter solder wire, wrapped around the ends of a file then flattened and glued in place. The whole thing was painted semi-gloss black then I scraped the paint off the rings leaving chrome rings around the guages.

The engine and other areas of the car will eventually be given a light wash to bring out more of the details.........

great to see heaps of steady progress going on their cars . . .

just a reminder about the Group Build Badge.
so far there's only been 2 nominations (see post 1)
if anyone else would like to design one, let me know
cos it's end of Sept and quite a few people have finished their cars (or about too)
if no one else wishes to design a badge, and you'll settle for one of the 2
I'll take votes during the first fortnight in Oct

any suggestions

Here's a couple of test shots just to see what it's going to look like.
I need to work on bringing the back wheel in under the body a little but it's not really as bad as it looks in this picture. It's not attached to anything yet it's just sitting there.

I still have to paint the rest of the inside of the body black as well as a lot of other things to do.

Isn't it annoying when this occurs!!?Banged Head [banghead]. My most recent experience with this was with a Studio 27 decal set on a Tamiya Porsche 962 which has white stripes as decals. The black and yellow paint shows through. I have a plan white decal sheet and so will cut additional strips from that and overlay to prevent the underlying colours coming through. Maybe you could try that too??

Hallo! Is there anybody out there?
There isn't much going on at the moment here at our group build so I thought I'll post something about my progress so far.
Making slow progress with the decals on my Original-Teile, have done approx. 80% of them now. Still working like mad with the carbon fibre decals in the interior, think it's coming along fine anyway. The CLK-GTR is stripped and under repair so it will get a new paint job soon, but I don't think it'll get finished in time...hate to rush projects. Eventually I'll get it finished to, all depends on how much time I can spend building. No pics this time as things pretty much looks the same as before.

Here's my progress over the last two weekends. I assembled most of the chassis and painted it. I still have the interior, more roll bars and suspension to do. I also assembled, painted, washed and drybrushed the engine. The hood will be closed, so I am not detailing the engine compartment. That's my scratch built window net ready for installation soon.

Well I decided to join the fray...I started today with my vehicle.

I will be building this kit....

I've had this kit lying around for quite some time, so I figured I would blow the dust off and build it. It's a pretty unique scheme, while I'm not a Bill Elliot fan, I think this kit looks pretty neat.

I sanded the seam lines on the roll cages as best as I could. Some I just couldn't get to at all....Man there were a lot of seams. This kit also had a lot of flashing! I took most of it off but still have some more to go. I also have some of the chromed pieces sitting in CSC....I then re-painted the cage and other parts flat black. But I need to go pick some more up tomorrow. I haven't gotten very far with this today (thanks to the sanding/filling of mold lines, ejector pin marks, etc!).

Here's the progress so far....

I plan on bulding the engine tonight. I am doing this strictly OOB...hopefully the decals work out, they're kinda old but looked ok.

Ok I thought that I might show some progress pix of this build. I know that some of you are wondering if I just dropped of the face of the earth because I was blasting through all of my builds in about 2 weeks and this one has been in progress now for abouth 4 weeks. That is because I am building this one as a dio. It is taking more time than I thought it would. So here is the progress pix that I said I would have for you.
This first one is of the rollcage that I have cut up and removed the cage.

The next one is of the chassis in the repair stage at the home shop of DEI.

And this one shows with the x-acto knife is will be were I am cutting the finders off of the car and haveing another set of finders ready to go on to the car after a hard impact into the outside wall at the track.

I would like to hear some response on this dio build from all good or bad.

That body almost looks to pretty to chop up and make into a wreck! Looks good so far! I'll have to go back through and read your plans, you mentioned Dio...

Ole JR. Made a great showing at Dega didn't he! Smile [:)]

Yes Jr. did have a good show at Dega. I have not posted any plans for this dio. What I was thinking is I have 2 bad bodys from a past kit in this GB that I have. I will use one of them for the finders and I have already cut out the roof flaps. I also have the tool sets and jack stands and things that I have an idea on how to use them in a build.

But thanks for the good word on the body that is not complete with paint and decals.

Nope, wasn't even aware there was such a website. I may have to go googling later and have a look at it.

Well I glued the engine halves together last night and have started painting miscellaneous engine parts today. I sprayed the engine block with aluminum for the base coat...I want to do a "clear blue" over the aluminum. While I know that wasn't the color of the motor ran in my car or any other stock car, I think it would look different...

I also sprayed the dash aluminum...however I don't like the way it came out, so I think I am going to strip it and prime it flat black and re-spray, this time I think I will use Alclad...

I didn't get as far today as I would have liked to...but I spent almost 2 1/2 hrs at the LHS this morning...and had a nice loooooooong nap today. I guess I'll have to make up for all my laziness tonight.Wink [;)]

I'm hoping the decals are still good....if they aren't I may be up the creek without a paddle....Then again I thought about it...if they are no good, I may be able to scan the decal sheet, buy some decal sheets and print them out on my Cannon I900....hopefully I won't have to go through that and the original sheet is fine.

Well, here's another update (last one before it's complete). This is a picture of the engine bay with some detailing complete, there's more to go. Will add the coil and wire, radiator hoses, the remaining oil circulation hoses and ventelation hoses that attach to the oil fillers, strut brace, radiator, brake cylinder, etc... so there is still a lot of work to do but it should go quick now.

The body also needs to have a lot of little details added like door handels, mirrors, decals.... so it might be a few more days to a week before it's done.

Well I really haven't done anything in the last day or so to speak of. I've been outside working in the yard trying to clean up most of the mess Ivan left.

I was looking at the kit along with 2 other Monogram kits I have, they're basically all the same parts and build up except the bodies...The other 2 kits are 1987 Thunderbird bodies....I might just try to build all 3 of them, or get as close as I can. I don't know my free time has been few and far between lately and what lil free time I have I'm spending on other projects other than modeling...it was just a thought I had, don't know if I'll even try following through or not.

I thought I'd update my progress this weekend.

Most of the chassis is done. I have to install the dash, steering wheel, rear suspension and engine. I have a few other odds and ends to wrap up on it...though I should be able to finish it up next weekend.

Have we decided on a badge yet?

in short . . . no.

seeing no other nominations have been spoken of, nor submitted, i guess it comes down to a vote of one of the two on offer:

Group Build Badge Nominations: (Voting in October)

- luke: - U-96:

I guess you guys can just post your vote here stating a preference for one or the other; but if others want to add a badge for voting, you better hurry up, cos voting ends start of Nov 04 Big Smile [:D]

Slowly making progress on my DTM-car. Only a few decals left before I start clear coating this baby. Still have to order some more CF-decals so that I can finish the chassi and interior. I will not be able to finish the CLK-GTR Mercedes because I don't get that much time building anymore. But I'll focus on this one so that I'll have something to show by the end of this enjoyable journey in racing car modeling.

Enjoy the pics!

Greetings all-

A lot of nice work you folks are doing. I'm humbled.
Finished the Spitfire for the Monogram GB, so I've had some time for the 'cuda funny car.
Body was stripped, re-painted, wet-sanded, polished with toothpaste and ready for the final coat of candy apple red-all went well until I noticed four dirt pimples on the hood. I'll have to let it cure till Friday and then try the toothpaste again. Not sure if I will need another coat of candy apple or just gloss coat.

The engine/chasis of the Polar Lights kit is another story. Poor instructions, chrome plating a little too heavy (stripped the chrome off of the blower asm. and painted instead), broke the blower belt (used pinstripe tape instead), questionable fit of parts. Ah...the joys of modeling. And to top it off, I sliced my finger cutting a part off of the spruce (very heavy at the joints also). Luckily I had the tube of super glue handy-worked well-I was impressed even if the wife wasn't!

Sorry for the quality of the photo-hope to upgrade sometime soon.

Roll cage & wheels/tires went on last night. the chasis has a 'slight' alignment issue-right front wheel is appox. 1/16" off the ground. may leave as such. good rim selection in the kit-may come in handy for future builds. the transmission pan is 'too deep'-drags the ground! will have to remove and either sand down the trans. itself or take a section out of the pan. still waiting till Friday to address the dirt pimples in the hood. I'm thinking some light polish (toothpaste) and either gloss or another coat of candy apple red. kinda bummed 'cause I finally got the shade I was wanting. I'm open for suggestions/input on the polish/paint (and all other concerns).

thx

Better pics (color/clarity) of the body of the 'cuda funny car-couldn't resist setting the body on the chassis-still needs to be polished/glossed or polished/another coat/polished & glossed-this weekend maybe? also needs the interior installed-will change the stance is my guess.

Mighty fine funny car you got there. I feel I have to put in a big effort on my remaining car so it'll get finished in time. I have so many projects going on that it kind of gets forgotten Disapprove [V] But eventually it will be finished. Like the color of the funny car, but it's a drag to work with candys I think. Very easy to get dirt in the paint job. Just tried some nailpolish on a '67 GTX and I have to respray the hood as it got somewhat messy. Good luck with further painting on the car.

thx Niclas-I'm finding that WW II aircraft are much more forgiving in the paint dept.-if something goes wrong, one can usually 'weather' the surface to cover it! This one has been a lesson in patience. Maybe I'll move on to tanks....Big Smile [:D]
