I can't really get rid of the scratches in the rear window. I've gone over it with both toothpaste and Tamiya compound. Know I'm thinking of dipping the whole shabang in Future, wich I've heard could take care of my little problem.
Too bad I cut the Windows off the mold tree.
How would you go about this project? I have to mount the window on something so that I could dip it and then it has to be placed on something while it hardens. Haven't done this before so any hints are welcome.

Both these compounds are quite light. Depending upon the depth of the scratchs you may need to hit it with something with a bit more bite first, try a low grade wet and dry first then move to the Tamiya compound to finish off and remove the marks from the wet and dry. Its takes time and looks awful to start with but will come out given enough "elbow grease"

I should also mention that my own building hasn't been without problems! The Ferrari interior and chassis has ben completed but I notice that the top coat paint applied some weeks ago to the body has crazed in several places. So instead of putting it all together as planned it was back to sanding off the paint and starting over. So instead of a model on its wheels ready for decalling and finishing I have an undercoated body ready for its top coat and a chassis ready for mating!

I've had to do the future thing on my windows, too. I use polishing cloths like the ones for polishing out the paint finishes. Start w/3200 and go on down to the 10,000 grit. You'll see the clearness improve with each grit.

After that, I'll pour up a bowl of Future and drop the part right in. You don't have to connect it to anything like a parts tree. Let it sit a few seconds, take fine pointed tweezers and grab the part by the corner and pull it out. Place it on a paper towel standing up against something like a paint can or cup. Just set the edge of it against the towel and the paint can.

Future will drain off into the paper towel and it'll flow into where you grabbed it with the tweezers, leaving you w/a brand new window.

Issue to Resolve!!!!!

Sign - Dots [#dots] Excuse me Gentlemen

Seeing I organised this Group Build, I might aswell stand up and account for all others who are in this group build and all those who wish to join. I am not taking sides in this issue, but . . .

03Cobra - I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are new to the forum and may have not been aware of the Group Build "norms" and the unofficial "manners" of posting texts & pics.

**Generally, if you want to join any Group Build you can ask or nominate yourself (cos quite frankly, no-one will say no if you stick to the group build theme).
**Secondly, the "general" posting of model pics (that are not part of a group build) should be posted in a separate post (cos group builds are modellers sharing a common interest in building a particular subject together, and the 'crashing in' of others is considered inappropriate in the atmosphere and good-nature of this project) [sounds like I've been watching too much Olympics].
**If in your orginal post, for example, you said:
"hey guys, I would like to join . . . and here is some of my past projects!"
that would not be 'mis-interpretated' by others as spaming.
**When communicating across the medium of the internet, there is a very fine line between understanding & mis-interpretating.

I have no problems if you want to join our Group Build. The "rules" are in Post 1 on Page 1 of this thread. But basically all you have to do is Nominate a Racing Car, tell us what model it is, and you can start group building.

As you are new, the FSM community & staff like to keep our forum friendly, and all of us here don't view any unfriendly comments as a good thing. We want to have a welcoming and friendly place for all.

I will now get off my SoapBox [soapbox] and hope we can all sort this out like professional modellers and grown-up mature men.

Hey Luke,

I think I'll enter a second build for this group if it's okay. I'm building a 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350-R and since it's already in progress I thought I might as well share it here with everyone.

If it's okay you can add me to the list for a second car and I'll post some pics soon.....

The Monogram Shelby GT350-R Mustang. So far I've cleaned up some of the parts and concentrated on the body and interior.

On the body I have:
Modified the panel line where the bumper and body meet.
modified the openings in the bumper from round to oblong like on most
GT350-R cars.

-drilled all the appropriate bumper mounting holes that are visible since
there is no rear bumper used on the real car.
-drilled appropriate holes in front fender near front bumper, also drilled
holes for hood pins and trunk pin.
-removed the chrome trim around the back window and removed the side
front quarter window frames (front will be replaced with a thinner chrome
strip)
-removed all the emblems
-removed the molded in door handles ( to be replaced by separate pieces)
-removed windshield wipers
-adjusted the angle on the rear edge of the front wheel arches
-adjusted the entire radius of the rear wheel arches.
-covered the interior door panels with plastic sheet to match most of the reference
I could find showing the interior door panels being replaced.
-sanded all the "carpet" from the interior tub floor.
-removed the glove box and radio from the dash and removed all the extra
dash padding from the dash
-drilled holes in the back panel to hold the spare tire in place.
**** still have to build the pressed in seat mounts where the passanger seat
would be, and modify the rollbar and fire extinguisher, and cut
openings in the seat for seatbelts and of course make the seatbelts****
-removed the molded in battery on the passanger side engine bay (it's in the trunk on
the real car) and removed the molded in "thingy" on the drivers side wheel
well and rebuilt the wheel well on both sides with plastic sheet
-added a plate under the hood "hood scoop", cut a hole in the plate and
added screen where it will close on the air intake.
-drilled out the center hub on the rear wheels and added a center cap for the
wheel bearing retainer on the front wheels.
-removed all the molded on "goodyear" and "blue streak" lettering from the
tires and dulled the tires to look more realistic and rubbery

Other than filling some sink marks on the frame that's about it for now... It's a good start to the most "changes" I've ever done to a model kit. It's a little intimidating for me so we'll see how it goes from here.

Here is a pic of the body painted white with the stripes painted blue and the final coats of clear but not yet polished... (more inprogrees pics in my photo album)

If I may say so it looks good as is. I do like the GT350-R. It is one of my favs.I can not wait to see more of the inprogress pics, So post them so if you can.

As for me, I should have my next build done tonight or so. I have been very tired after all of my P T lately, so I have not been doing much as to the building of my cars. Hopefully I will have some pics up soon.

Eric, is that the same car I've seen over on AF? Looking great!! A winner for sure!

Well, I've finally finished my little P-51D, so I'll be focusing on my C5-R Corvette a bit more now. I did a bit of miscellaneous work last night, but nothing worth showing pics of.

Looking every bit fantastic. I love Mustang's, at least the firts three versions of them. If the rest will look half as good as the paintwork it'll be a killer for sure.

Just to show it isn't a figment of my imagination here is the Ferrari underway.

The weather has been terrible (have to paint outside), with the worst storm for 30 years earlier in the week and again rain Saturday and today and cold. However I have managed to clear a little space on the work bench with the completion of a GT40. Unfortunately I had already started the bodyshell before this GB started so I can't really list it as part of this GB or can I?

The Safari Toyota Corolla has the body shell painted but I'm sure no one wants to see a white bodyshell. Now the GT40 is finished I can find more space to push ahead with the Corolla.

Looking good RC-man, I'm making slow progress on my Original-Teile, just started decaling the body. It's quite a few to put on and now both me and my LHS has run out of decal solvent. The one's I've put on is done sitting outside in the sun during vacation Cool [8D] Still haven't decided on the Sportswear car, whether to keep the paint job or not. Will have to take a look at it again and if I go for a repaint I'll have to await a fresh delivery of paint as TS-17 also is out at the LHS Sad [:(]

Cheers!

wow, that's looking really good proosen!

I'm finally getting some time back at the bench, although a small disaster occured when I found one of our kittens running around with an assembled photoetched seatbelt. It's a bit chewed, and one buckle lost, but I needed to shorten it anyway. Big Smile [:D]

Started on the engine, but I have some excellent source pics so I'm hoping to build it up a bit with hoses, clips and so on. It's also a chance to add a bit of colour to what would otherwise be black and metal.
On the bench: 1/35 Dragon Sturmpanzer Late Recent: Academy 1/48 Bf-109D (Nov 06) Academy 1/72 A-37 (Oct 06) Revell 1/72 Merkava III (Aug 06) Italeri 1/35 T-26 (Aug 06)

Good work guys, R-CMan73 and proosen. Both cars look great. I'm finally going to get back to my GT350-R tonight. I've been busy with work, out of town visitors and a general lack of motivation..... Things are getting back to normal though so I hope to make some progress tonight.

nicholma, I would like to see more pics of that GT40, even if you start a new thread. GT40's are some of my favorite cars.
