                        This is my first AM kit (an SBD5). Why didn't anybody warn me that there is so much detail in these kits. A month later and I think I am finished with the interior.

                        I matched it up with my old Monogram SBD that I built many moons ago and holy moly, what a difference between these two. I have to pick up some film tonight and get some pics.

                        OUCH Tim, that's a lot of warpage. Be careful with the hot water, don't scald yourself in the process.

                        Last night I tried to dry fit the wings now that I have the fuselage almost completed on my A-36. Ouch! The left side of the bottom wing is very badly warped! There is a gap of more than an inch between the wing tips when I hold the top and bottom halves together. The bottom half is curved strongly downward on the outer 1/2 of the left side. The two halves on the right side fit perfectly. I am pretty sure I haven't done anything to cause the warp, so it must have come that way. This is the only time I have had this trouble with an AM kit.

                        Looks like I am going to have to scald the wing to straighten it.

                        The exhausts were painted Metalizer Burnt Metal and finished off with brown pastels. Here is a close up of the engine access area. It is a little difficult to adeqately light the inside of it.

                        Woot! Just finished up my YAK-1, I had alot of fun doing it and Im glad I did it rather then another mustang or B-25. I hope everyone else had/has as much fun ontheir builds as I have have had. Good luck to you all!

                        Okay! I've just finished painting the avenger! I have yet to add the breakable bits, wash it and apply the decals. This Avenger will be one of 12 built for a 1/48 scale aircraft carrier my IPMS is building. It will be dressed in the colors of VC-10 while they served on the ill-fated USS Gambier Bay. I can't wait to finish this one off!


                        The wings haven't been glued on yet, because i want to get the opinion of the other avenger builders, so the wings aren't sticking out differently at odd angles. Big Smile [:D]

                        The sad part about this build is that i won't be able to display this one in my room! Maybe i'll just buy another TBF-1C? Hehehe... Wink [;)]

                        I started painting the interior of the YAK 1 today and almost had a disaster when I was trimming the carb intake tI dropped the piece, it took an hour or so to find it but thank goodness it was found.

                        Hey, guys... I haven't been able to participate much in the discussion here but the work on the avenger is comming along... Here is the result of today's work:

                        It seems a shame to cut up the wings of such a beautiful kit, so i hope it turns out alright.


                        supposedly this is the cockpit. I messed up on the kit seatbelt decals becuase i had an open bottle of CA around, and they kinda got... well... stuck. so i just made quickie replacements using some foil.


                        This last one is the detal of the wing fold that a friend of mine made for the club out of sheet styrene.

                        Comments and suggestions are most welcome!

                        Finally going to start on my YAK 1... These last weeks have been tough my comp decided it doesnt want to load web sites anymore even though I can play everquest /sigh. My wife comes back from vacation with her folks in 2 weeks so hopefully it will be online for pics by then. Good luck aon your builds.

                        Woodbeck, I like how the exhaust feathering turned out. You have a nice looking model.

                        My build update: Still no building being done. My workspace (the basement) is being remodeled and I have the workbench torn down and have stated building a new work center. Complete with Microwave, Fridge, and DVD surround sound. I need all the relaxation I can get in order to try to do a fair job on this nice SBD kit.
