AIRCRAFT - Accurate Miniature Group Build

OK shes done. I have to find the clear part for the wing and one of the guns...tweezerpult. I left the bottom wingbands off after seeing a ref pic like that...thought it looked nice.

Appreciate the comments. But I am really glad to get back into the swing of things. These will be the last images for awhile. Unfortunately my camera has been snagged (absolutely po'd). So most likely the Dauntless will be completed before I can get a replacement digital camera. Don't have the budget to go out and just get one. Especially with the features needed to get decent closeups on the models.
At this moment the Dauntless has been decaled, weathered and ready for the flat coat.

Well, I finally got started on the A-36 this weekend. Nothing much to report - just scraping, sanding, and searching for lost PE in the carpet. Maybe tonight I'll be able to load the ol' airbrush with zinc chromate and let fly. I have three seats, three instrument panels, and three sidewalls, courtesy of Accurate Miniatures, Eduard, and True Details. I'm going to finish out all three and probably choose a mix to finish out the cockpit.

I'm still considering finishing this aircraft in flying configuration with the dive brakes open. I know I could pose them open on the ground, and I know they were commonly wired shut in service, but there is something intriguing about the image of this aircraft in a steep dive, brakes deployed, and the bombs in flight. Anyway, if I do that, the cockpit work will be mostly invisible. I have an extra kit, so I may use the am stuff for a static version.

Now I need to devise a way to display the bombs just separated from the airplane.....

Looking good Jeff. You guys are close to done & I haven't started yet, LOL. Should have the bench clear enough to start next week.

Chuck, great work onthe SBD, so great, that I REALLY want to get busy with mine, however, I must wait since I am remodeling my basement. But it will be sorth it, better lighting, better organization, and better stereo system.

Nice work, Chuck! Hope mine looks half that good when I get around to building it (I've got a Hasegawa 1/48 kit).
I'm making good progress on my Il-2, should be done sometime next week.

This is AM's SBD-3 Dauntless in 48th scale. To this point we are ready to add the decals. It is now clear coated. Will use the kit decals to represent Liska' s SBD-3. Except for Eduard's seatbelts, the kit is right out of the box.
This is such a neat kit, plenty of detail, unless your planning to build a different version from the base kit, you don't need a detail set. As the instruction say, follow them. Enough of a challenge which requires some patience, but not difficult really.


I did however somehow broke off one of the ends off the bomb trapeze. I haven't even taken it off the sprue yet! Sheesh. Well I'm going to fabricate
a new one somehow to replace it.


With the clear coat laid down, I will add a little more detail under the airframe, like some blow by from the exhaust, and oil leaks that get caught in the airstream. Not much though as I believe this aircraft was not in service very long before this battle.


I will then add the decals, and then prep for the dullcoat. and finally final finish and details. This would be my 1st one completed for 04!

Well finally got the Dauntless out of the paint booth. Don't you just love the finish right after shooting. Nice flat even finish. Before adding the clear coat.
And seems it is hard to recapture that flat sheen when shooting the flat clear.

I used Aeromaster USN Lt Grey Acrylic for the bottom over preshading. And Polly S USN Blue Grey. It has been so long since I've used any Polly S acylics. I forgot how nice this paint lays down, and does not clog the tip. (Paasche H freehand). More to follow.

Thad, there are other free web sites that will host pics & work well. Might try photobucket, which works fine for me.

Well I have bad news. IL-2+cat+unstable bookshelf+2:30 am = CRUNCH!! Yep the cat got bored at 2:30 this morning went after the little russian tank killer that's been waiting on my omni brush to come in. She jumped up and the bookcase fell forward cat-apulting the IL first then the case landed on it. It's totally destroyed, nothing big enough to put back together so I am going to buy the 51A next payday...like 8 days form now and start on that for this group build.
Sorry I havent posted in a while...but my 17G silvered finally for the monogram build and my Tiger 1 base coated for the backwards build, all after getting my IL to the paint phase, then deciding to retire the aztek for an omni that will be here the 2nd and my press. reg. for my miniblue comp.
Lotta money getting this set up LOL...anyways I need to know where I am compared to the deadline. Thanks.

I spent the whole week canning beets and zuchinni ( my garden has gone nuts, I have squash multiplying like bunnies), so not much building done on the SBD. I got the instrument panel painted and the side controls installed. I can't wait until I get an evening to really dig in and finish this cockpit. So much detail, so little time.
