My IL-2 Looks Horrible...but its ok with me. Second build in 15 years what would I expect. Waiting for my badger to finish camo on it. Blew the canopy lines but I will get better at that. Will have pics ready for posting tomorrow. Anyone help me with that I have no where to put them to link?

A most excellent representation of an Ilyushin Sturmovik, comrade Pixilator! The
Central Committee has voted to make you a hero of the Soviet Union!

I just have the red X also.
I right-clicked the X, went to properties, copied the URL. Let's see if it works.

Nope. That doesn't work. Do the first three steps above, and paste it to the address bar on your browser. You'll see a nice, shiny Mustang.

Well done, 1337 !

I found Future in target finally.. chemical isle where like dish saop is on the bottom. Don't thin it at all.

I am getting paint on my IL-2 now bottom color and light base top color will wait to finish camo when I get my badger in. Is it bad to leave on liquid maskingtape on clear parts for more a week??? They've been futured.

Supposedly AM went thru some hard times but survived. What does everyone use to reduce Future and what ratio do you use (in case I ever find any)?

In another post somewhere I hit a link that took me to a review of one of the AM kits. Don't remember where but it said.... "this kit from the now defunked Accurate Minitures..." Is AM out the door???

I hope not I love the detail of AM. I would be very sad to see AM go.

Thanks Thad.

We're not here to compete, but to share our experiences with these kits. As long as you do your best, and don't shortchange yourself, its a winner. Please post your pics with pride. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Thanks again !

Well those seams on the Il-2 single seater are fun Black Eye [B)]Disapprove [V] but thats ok each model I build resharpens my skills after a 15 year nap. getting ready to paint her tomorrow maybe. My LHS was outta the dark green for the top camo, so I got OD but it is a little brown, you think I should wait for the green? Or doesnt matter because they didnt have paint standards anyways?

Thanks Thad, John, Chuck, & Rick !
And a special thank you, Thomas ! (Both for the kits & the comments !)

Today was weapons day. I got the guns done in Alcad steel. I also assembled the bombs, with PE fins. I then gave them a brush coat of MM faded o.d. While they were tacky, I stippled them with a wide stiff brush, to give them the texture of being cast. I then gave them a drybrush to add to the texture. It works pretty well. I'll show them with the pics of the finished build this weekend.

We wanted to let you guys know that we're watching this event with interest. Thanks for the commentary, critiques, and the excellent craftsmanship. It isn't the kits that make us look good, it's what you guys do with them. They all look great, and we really appreciate the support and encouragement.

chilly: I always mix my own colors for oddball shades like this one. I may be a bit off in the tone but it's not as if the fate of the world hangs on having the exact
color for a Sturmovik's wheel well interior (Heresy!). It looks kind of similar to the grey-green used on the interior of some Luftwaffe aircraft. Good luck on the build. I'm starting mine in a week or two. Are you doing the white camo or the
earth tones camo?

Pix:

That is a pretty impressive Apache. The yellow trim adds a little color to the drabness of this particular paint scheme. Again the extra details like adding the dive brakes in the open position really sets it off very well. Nice work once again Bill. Mine is pretty plain, did not use the kit decals. I'll bring it out of storage and take some images of it. This will not be part of this group build, this was completed a few years ago.

Even though there aren't many decals, I spent two days applying them. The yellow surround for the stars are separate, so I had to wait for the lower layers to be "snuggled down" with Micro Sol. Since I dropped the flaps and used the PE dive brakes in the open position, I cut each of the four wing stripes into four pieces at the appropriate angles.
The decals are from Three Guys Replicas, and they are great. The whites & yellows are opaque, and the printing is crisp enough to read the hometowns of the crew chief & assistant !

I still have a lot of work to do, and some of these pieces are dryfitted & tacked in place. I needed to make sure the wing stripes were aligned before it was too late. I hope to be done with the Apache sometime this weekend.

cplchilly: I'm going to build this same kit soon & Pix has given me some ecelllent advice
on it since he's already done a Sturmovik with wheels. He's the go to guy here. I think
a few others might have built this one too.
