I think the Chevrolet was also US made and designed but if the Chev was designed and made in Canada - that would be okay John. Can anyone confirm the Chev's origins?

Peter, you are right on the SAS jeep, I just lost it there -- sorry & I withdraw them.

The Tamiya LRDG trucks are the Canadian Chevrolet 1533X2 30-cwt delivered in Mar 1942;I believe a special order so "designed" & made in Canada.

I've got a couple UC's, a QL&6-pdr, & a 15-cwt truck but not really excited about them.

If the LRDG falls thru, I may have to find a decent truck for the 2-pdr portee.

And your decision is ??

Okay, were on.

Michael. Have to be the UC Carrier. The Firefly was a modified Sherman and does not fit the criteria we settled on. Sorry mate, seeing as the firefly is dear to your heart and all. If the Market garden build proposal goes ahead, your firefly will be perfect for that.

Sad [:(]Sad [:(]Sad [:(] uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhSad [:(]
I was probably going to do the carrier, its fairly cheap but i was wanting to do the firefly

No problem. But I have not purchased the kit yet. It is to be included in the budget for the fiscal month of July if it will be ratified by the Department of Budget (aka the Wife).Big Smile [:D]

Wayne. Heard the rumour too, but thought Ian might be further ahead than that. Well at least we can hope the Aussie Matilda arrives before September (aren't going to hold my breath though).

Won't be holding my breath either petbat, might still build the Matilda for the group build , will confirm my subject within the next week.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

John (Jratz) Canadian Chev sounds like it fits all criteria. Welcome aboard.

Dwight. Your name has been there all along. You must have missed itWhistling [:-^] Oops [oops]Sorry about that. You now have star billing on page one.

Warren. For the list can you tell me which manufacturer for the Humbers? Thanks.

Wayne. Everyone needs more than one Matilda in their collection! looking forward to your final choice.

OK, my goal will be to build 2, maybe 3 of 'em.
They will all be in different configurations, none of which is the OOB radio truck.
If Tamiya re-releases it this year, as rumor has it, then I might make a full half-patrol.
When I get organized, I'll post some kit & detail pix on my website to show what I'm starting with.

zokissima

Yep, but it gives the interested parties time to budget for a kit and any aftermarket products they want. It also gives the retailers time to ship 'em to you!!

It also allows time for people to finish their other GB projects.

Anyway, you can still build something else while you waitBig Smile [:D]

How does the old Tamiya Matilda rate? I should have got it when Model Expo was blowing it out. So many wheels on it turned me a bit off, not to mention the date of the kit. Early 70's?

A bit on the clunky side ... but still can build into a very nice representation of the Matilda.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Dwight, I take it you are an October, November or December b'Day. Otherwise you were 'made' in '69 or prematureTongue [:P] Either way you are a 'young en'.

tigerman if not for the rumoured new kits, I would say grab it as the only injection moulded game in town. Just like us older guys, Old does not mean bad.........just some work is required to get it all where you want it!Big Smile [:D]

The old tamiya kits can be a lot of fun, as they require a bit of work, but generally fit together reasoably well.. Some members have been doing some great work on older tamiya releases lately.

petbat / Peter:

I'd like to change my choice from the LRDG Chev to a 2-pdr portee, I love these things!

I sprung for another Sovereign 2-Pdr despite my earlier whine about expenses -- what can I say, my darn supplier had one in stock !!! I have an Italeri 15-cwt 'in stash' and what I think is enough info to convert it to a CMP C60L 3-tonner as the portee.

My goal is to do a diorama of 2LT George Ward Gunn, J Btry 3rd RHA, VC at Sidi Rezegh. I admit to not knowing if the unit was using the C60L or F60L but am hoping that it is a minor point .... If I later find it was an F60L and I can't kludge it decently, I'll drop the diorama or change the theme to something else.

The Sep start gives me plenty of time to do some drawings & detail planning -- I'll probably need all the build time I can get !!!

OK ?

Hey Petbat count me in on this build if its not to late. I will more than likely be doing the Universal carrier,, but I may decide to pick up something else in the meantime. But for now count me in with the universal carrier.

Tigerman, you heard it right. I also heard that it will be released in more than one version, so I guess it is not Tamiya then Whistling [:-^] I heard it is Academy or Trumpeter but don't quote me on it.

Wayne and Rich welcome aboard. You have been added to the list (see 1st post, page 1). Just let me know if you decide to build something else.

15 Particpants so far. Looking good.

I think I'd like to do this, not sure what I'll do since I've already got a Cromwell (my favorite British tank) in progress but there is a wide selection of interesting things to build. I've had my eyes on a Bishop for awhile but as Sept is some way off I want to shop around.

Just a comment on the commonwealth designed and used, there are a number of vehicles that were not fully designed by but were only used by commonweath countries the Chevrolet 3 ton was built in Canada and only used by the commonweath countries but is an American designed truck, Grant was a modified version of the M3 medium designed by and for the British, it was not used by the US, Staghound, Boarhound (I'd love to find a kit of that) were US designs contracted by the British, Firefly is based on the US Sherman as is the Canadian Ram, and Sexton these were strictly commonwealth vehicles but based on a US design.

I realize you are trying to get away from Sherman's in commonweath colors but a number of commonweath vehicles are being excluded due to their association with the US base vehicle. but there seems to be a blurry line with a few cross overs being allowed (Chevrolet 30 CWT, Sexton) and some not (Firefly, Grant, Stuart Recce). I'm in regardless as I will be building something wholly British, unless a cheap Boarhound shows up Smile [:)] but there are a number of vehicles that you don't see much that meet the criteria except for their US roots.
