Jules, funny you should ask that question actually.

I was going to be going a US bird, but a couple of weeks ago I picked up Aeromasters - RAF Mustang Pt. 1(48-669) which features a Mustang Mk.III from 3 Squadron RAAF. These aircraft have a great light blue rudder with the Southern Cross painted on it (similar to what 3 Sqn have on their F/A-18s today).

So I think I'll switch schemes on my P-51B and go for an RAAF stang instead.

Cheers

question fellas, how does a Malcolm hood open? does it slide back on rails, or does it flip up and hang over to one side? can't seem to find a pic of an open one. thanks, later.

Chris, on the P-51B & C models with Malcom Hoods, the canopy slid back on rails. There is a pic of one in Bert Kinzey's "P-51 Mustang In Detail & Scale, Vol. 1" on page 35.

thanks fellas!! i knew you guys would come through and rescue me from my laziness!!LOL i hate research!! i've tried the Acc Min malcolm hood in the open position, gonna be kinda tricky!! it don't fit very well like that due to the thickness of the clear part. plus, there is supposed to be a whip antenae that the hood bends over when in the open position. the instructions say to make this part from stretched sprue............the only time i've been to the bench since ivan................just got to kinda dry fit the canopy. still gotta paint the bird. maybe i'll have some time here soon. later.

G'day lads

I think a progress report on my AM A-36 Apache is in order (for anyone who cares). It's all stuck together and it's had some colour and decals applied to it. I'm having some problems with the finish though, the first time I sprayed it, it all cracked up (I'm that funny I can make anything laughBig Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]).

So after alot of sanding and re-spraying of my flat coatZzz [zzz]Zzz [zzz], I can say that I probably only need to sand and re-paint about 15 more times (it's exciting when things are going so wellParty [party]Party [party]). Hopefully I can finish it before it gets thrown at a wall, so you all atleast get a good laugh out of it Boohoo [BH]Boohoo [BH].

By the way...... Pix- I love that stang, the NMF looks awesome.Cool [8D]Cool [8D] These little guys have the right idea, they had the sense to wear shades when looking at it.

See you all in the asylum when I finally go mad (it'll happen to all of us eventually, especially those of us who work with PE parts). Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]

Never thought I'd use so many smilies in one post.

Congratulations, I think that may be a record for smilies in one post!! Sorry to hear of your troubles with this one, but not all builds go as smooth as we might wish. Hope to see some pics of your work.

YES!!!......I have progress. Got most of this dimunitve birdy together (including savagely warpped wings). Did a little detailing on the exhaust port - had to add
bulkheads and a curved section and rod, couldn't find any reference on what that section looked like but what I got is better than the nothing that was there - just got to add the door. Also started on the enginge, mounts and firewall. the aluminum tube is the flare gun port that AM didn't portray

Jules,

Your Stang is looking mighty fine so Thumbs Up [tup]

As usual you are leaving me in the dust. I must admit I've taken a bit of a break over the weekend, but I want to finish the Spitfire this week so that I can start my Stang.

Cheers

How's everyone going? From the pics, you all look like you're going just fine.

My AM apache is getting there, one more flat coat should do it. I might have some pics up in a few days if all goes according to plan.

OK, I finished my AM P-51A. A filly is in the barn, now I just have to finish the Stallion.
Here are the 3 finished photo's I took:

I did a Future coat, Testors Dullcoat, and an acrylic wash over it all. Then used pastel chalk to weather it all.
