Salty, somehow I don't think you're going to be last all. I am in a similar boat to you, with all my energy going on a 109 that I am building. My Mustang is still progressing, just very slowly.

Very nice Thad Thumbs Up [tup]. The captured aircraft in Luftwaffe markings makes for a different looking build.

Daniel, Julian, Thanks for the comments, really appreciate it.

A lot of guys use the Alclad gloss primer & some use Krylon gloss black decanted from a rattle can & then airbrushed. I do it a little differently because I like to first prime with Floquil grey primer. I then spray it with Floquil Engine black, after a very light wet sand, and then Future. After the Future has cured for a couple of days, I spray the overall Alclad2 Aluminum. I follow that with masking panels & painting other shades of Alclad2 & finally any other colors needed. In this case I used ModelMaster enamels for the Yellow, OD & Red. Clearcoating cuts down on the metallic effect, but it does help with decaling. I usually don't clearcoat over Alclad2, but on this model I did use Future as a gloss clearcoat & then Polly Scale Flat as a final. It gives a more weathered look to the Aluminum.

Your Stang looks awesome Rick. The NMF turned out great, what did you use to prime for the NMF? And did you spray any clear coat over it? It's very impressive.

Joe nice job on both stangs friend!!Thumbs Up [tup]

rick LOL, dirty secret eh?!! thanks for the nugget. i was thinkin' of mixing in a drop or 2 of alclad gloss black base to see if that would darken up my aluminum some. really, you need about 4 different shades minimum IMO, but that may be goin' overboard. i viewed "Wings over the Pacific" on Discovery Wings the other night and toward the end of the program, they showed several excellent shots of stangs in action in the Pacific and it was in color!! very nice reference. the flaps, ailerons, and elevators looked almost like chrome!! alot brighter than the surrounding skin. anyway, i'd love to order that program. later.

Alclad2 is not a buffing metalizer, like the ModelMaster line, but a little light buffing may increase the shine a little. I have tried it & it doesn't make a lot of difference in the final appearance. Be careful with the white & polished Aluminums as they don't adhere as well as the other colors & definitely don't like decal setting solutions such as Microsol.

Chris, you are very observant my inquisitive freind. I'll let you in on my dirty little secret for getting the darker shade needed for the exhaust panel. But promise you won't tell any one else Smile [:)]. I mix a couple or 3 drops of ModelMaster Anodonic Grey into an eydroppers worth of Alclad2 Dark Aluminum. I know, you shouldn't mix enamels & lacquers, but I've experimented with it & it works like a charm. I didn't want to use just ModelMaster in that area because I had to mask for the Yellow & past disasters have taught that masking any metallics, other than Alclad2, is an iffy proposition. The small amount of MM in the Alclad2 doesn't seem to effect its adhesion at all. I've been experimenting with other combinations on a scrap model to see how much I can stretch the envelope using Alclad2. Later.

rick, i'm assuming the duraluminum is the darkest color? i have the other 2 colors you mentioned and i can't seem to get my dark aluminum to look as dark as yours looks. on most of my references, i see that the piece of aluminum skin where the exhaust comes out is alot darker than the surrounding skin, almost like it has some kind of treatment to stand the heat or something. later.
