It's kinda stalled at the moment, iv'e decided to do one at a time rather than go backwards and forwards between builds, so as soon as all this rain stops i'll finish the Oldguns Spit 1 and then i'll devote my time to the Stang........
BTW are you putting Aussie markings on yer StangQuestion [?]

Jules I sure am. My bird is a Mustang Mk.III from 3 Squadron RAAF based in Italy in 1944. The distinguishing feature of this aircraft is the light blue tail with Southern Cross painted on it. As you know, the Southern Cross is still carried on 3 Squadron Hornets today.

Cheers

Not to badly at all thanks Jules. I have just about finished the interior now so I'll post a photo when it's done.

What about yours, how's it going?

Thanks Daniel. The wood floor was first sprayed with ModelMaster Tan enamel. Washes of Burnt Sienna & Burnt Umber Artist water colors were layed on & before they dried were streaked using a foam rubber make-up tool I "borrowed" from my wife's stash.

Looking forward to seeing your pics!

Hey Rick,
Your Mustang is looking great. The cockpit is nicely painted. How did you do the wood floor?

I'm finally getting some work done on my Apache. It's turning out alright, but nothing special. I should have it finished in a few days, so I'll have some photos to show you all.

Thanks Darren. Hope it works out well for you. If it does, I'll take the credit & if it don't it's all your fault Smile [:)].

On my build, got the fuselage assembled, seams cleaned up & wing & tailplanes on. A little clean up & I should be ready to prime it tomorrow.

Thanks Leon. The Instrument Panel & the Pedestal are mostly PE.

Darren, it isn't easy, which is one of the reasons I usually show the canopy closed Smile [:)]. My suggestion would be to mask & paint the outside frames first, then you have a more visible guide to mask the interior frames. I use thin strips of Tamiya tape on the interior & carefully match it to the outer paint lines.

OK Mustang people, I need a bit of help please.

Masking canopies is the weakest part of my modeling and I'm looking at the P-51B I'm doing and I'm wondering how do I mask the inside of the canopy so that it can be painted and posed open. I'm asking this because the outside of the canopy has a frame to guide me, but the inside is smooth.

I have in the past I have tried spraying the internal colour to the outside of the canopy first, but this always looks very glossy through the transparent plastic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks Frosty. Hope to see pics of your build real soon. Don't let the canopy scare you, there is nothing to fear but fear itself Smile [:)]. Good luck, sure it will work out great.

Finally got going & made some progress on my 1/48 Tamiya P-51D. Here's some pics of the cockpit tub installed in the LH fuselage. This is a combination of kit parts, Eduard PE & a resin seat from Ultracast with molded on seat belts. Basic painting was ModelMaster enamels with details brush painted with Valllejo acrylics.

Will move along pretty quick from here, I hope.

I have finally taken this build off the back burner and have some progress to report on this build Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

I have shaved/sanded all the detail off the cockpit in prep for the Eduard PE, repainted the cockpit and given it a coat of future. I'll let things cure for a couple of days and then give it a wash.

As I won't be washing the cockpit console dials and gauges, I assembled them last night with the pre-colored PE. WOW [:0], this is the first time I've used the pre-colored PE and I think is looks great, I hope the rest of the pit turns out as nice

More later

You have to have your pics uploaded to a host web site. You can't upload from your hard drive to FSM. Check the Sticky in the Community Assistance Forum on how to post pics. There are free host sites available. I use photobucket & there are several others.

Dude,
I know what you mean. Only 3 trees of stuff and 3 months into it and I am still not
close enough to call it home for paint. Atleast I'll have tomorrow to cut off the other flap, fill, et such. maybe I'll even fo a few more PE. One of the problems I found with the Am kit is the rear wheel should go in before the fuselage goes together - just had to cut the tail seam, so I can insert the wheel.

Therriman: Looks really good. Was that also the AM P-51A kit?

some news from the shop:
altho' this project has been on the back burner 4 awhile now,
i did manage 2 get the cockpit painted & assembled on my stallion...
the wheel bays r blanked off between the upper & lower wings,
i was thinking about adding some more details in 'em, but i'm
kinda leaning towards having the landing gear up on this lil' hoss.
still undecided...
