Thanks Chris, appreciate it. AeroMaster sheet 48-657 is the one I used. It also has markings for 2 other yellow nosed Stangs. A P-51D "Death Angel" and a P-51B "Queen Jean".

Regards, Rick

wibhi2 & frosty, thanks for the comments. I've always wanted to do "Detroit Miss", but never had decent markings. Then Aeromaster released a new sheet a few months ago, so I can add another to my collection of P-51 Aces.

Here's a couple of progress pics on my Stang, "Detroit Miss ". Basic painting is done, now decals, final assembly & detailing. Paint used was 3 colors of Alclad2 for the NMF & Modelmaster enamels for the rest. Should be done this weekend. Comments welcome.

thanx !!!
the NMF is just modelmaster paint from a rattlecan...
gotta keep the can moving rapidly over the surface of the model
so the paint doesn't build up too much... several lite coats will b needed
2 finish this off rite, & i'll probably end up masking a few sections &
using aluminum & silver as well as the german silver that's already on there...

darson:
i'm planning on Tuskeegee Airmen colors 4 this bird...
"fight, fight, fight, fighting 99th..."

still got a long way 2 go before this hoss is done, tho'...

Darson i know the bird your talking about, they're a good lookin stang, the only thing i don't like about them are the British roundels, thats why i always model Pacific Aussie A/C with the blue and white roundels.......Jules......

Jules,
I am doing the bird with the camo job, but I'm going to do it a little different. The Mustang Mk.IIIs that 3 sqd flew were diverted straight from the factory in the US to fulfill an RAF order. They were painted at the factory using US standard paint colors to match as closely as they could to RAF colors. So my Mustang is going to wear US OD and Sea Grey over Light Grey.

Pingtang,
I haven't been around much, but congrats on your build it looks first rate as usual. Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] I really like the weathering, it looks fantastic.

frostygirl,
Looks great from here, what markings are you going to put on it?

Cheers

Thanks for the comments on my Apache everyone.

QUOTE: Ping - that apache looks great. Did you use the PE Parts set for the canopy? And I would like to know more about your painting technique. I really like the OD variation.

I built the thing straight out of the box, so no PE was used. The OD variation was achieved with pastels. I just applied black pastel to the panel lines for a sort of pre-shaded look. And all the sanding I had to do to fix the flat coat gave it some variation too probably.

Ping - that apache looks great. Did you use the PE Parts set for the canopy? And I would like to know more about your painting technique. I really like the OD variation.

Rick: Sorry about your loss.
But, c'mon an' post more picts of this little gem your working on.

On a side note: Let me throw this out at ya'all fer an idea. Since this thread is some 26 pages long, some of the completed builds are lost in the sauce per se. So, when this
GB is done why don't we all post completed picts under a single thread in the AC forum (that way I can look at all the completed stang's without searching through a gazzillion pages)

Just a quick progress report on Detroit Miss. Managed to get the detail painting done over the weekend (why oh why did I pick another bird with Invasion Stripes? Oh well). Let it set for a day & I can get to my favorite part of any build, the decalling. This is when the model takes on the persona of the prototype & begins to come to life.

A very nice build Dan. Looks real good from here.

Thad & Joe, thanks for the thoughtful comments. I found time to get the Stang painted with the Alclad2. Hope to do the detail painting this weekend.

Here it is. After many weeks sitting on the desk awaiting some work, it's finished. It's my Accurate Miniatures 1/48 A-36 Apache. I liked the kit, the cockpit and wheel well detail is very good, and the decals were pretty good. There were a few fit problems though, the forward fuselage part is to wide for the aft part, the cockpit tub was too deep which stopped the wings going on properly and the canopy is pretty ordinary (didn't fit very well, is thick and not very clear).

The thing that held the build up most was the first flat coat I sprayed, I won't go into it here though, I whinged enough about it a few pages back. Enough of my rambling though, here's the pics. Hope you like them and thanks for letting me share.

Well, my wifes 91 year old Mother passed away this morning after a long illness. Needless to say, my modeling will be on the back burner for a few days.
