Excellent. The weathered appearance is just right, it looks a well used piece of machinary.

Hang in there Mr Harrison they will be coming!!

Its just gone 12.11am here in Middle Earth and I've just been working on it. The top coat is done so I've been applying some weathering. It needs a dirt wash over the body and engine. I've yet to start the weathering on the tracks and the logging arch hopefully tomorrow. She-who-must-be-obeyed has had me painting the bedroom all day (and several days to go yet) so I'm not much in the mood to paint models after that. Maybe I'll sneak a few minutes off tomorrow Mischief [:-,]Mischief [:-,] and garb a picture of 2 just to show its not a figment of my imagination Wink [;)]

thanks tweety, i appreciate it....... have i qualified enough to keep the badge as i have a potential buyer for the marder today. but i do not want to sell it if some sort of base or figures are required for completion.

Well, it's just my opinion, but I kinda think finishing a kit for the GB is enough.
And with a finisher like that Marder, I think you qualify with honours!!

Mind you, thats my opinion.

I'm not an armour guy by any means, but I assume they wouldn't be weathered as much, or even close too, the same state as the rest of the vehicle.

Would I be right that tools 'fell off' or were otherwise lost often??

yeah, but they tried to keep them around in case the vehicles were disabled and they needed to dig in and or repair the vehicle.

Nicholma i'll be looking forward to seeing those picsThumbs Up [tup]

Tanker IMHO your Marder is more than enough to qualify the tagThumbs Up [tup]
Those Marders are an interesting machine Ugly yet Attractive, like tweets said I'm not much of an armour man either but i do have a few to build and a Marder would look good sitting next to the usual Tiger and Panther models in my collection......

Here it is. It is something quite different for me as my main interest is in racing cars which or course don't have tracks - well not in this sense anyway! This is an HO scale model of a logging bulldozer (something like a D6 ?) from around the 1950's and 60's. When I was involved in logging in NZ during the late 1970's technology had moved on, to rubber tyred arches of simpler design (as well as the rubber tyred logging skidder which is something quite different) and the dozer always had a blade.

The dozer and the logging arch are both just resting on the tracks and the logging arch is not yet attached to the dozer. The control levers, exhaust and air intake also need to be fitted. The mainline and chokers or strops (the chains that go around the load and attached to the mainline) need to also be attached from the winch on the back of the dozer through the fairlead on the arch. The kit supplies a white metal "load" of 3 logs. I'm going to use pieces of a real small branch. As you can see I've started weathering but the tracks need much more work. There would have been no rust on the tracks or undercarriage because of the constant daily contact with bush, scrub, stumps, earth banks, rocks etc. The tracks themselves will be painted in a silver or aluminium colour but the driving wheels (what ever they're called??) and beam will have some yellow colour as they were largely protected by the tracks themselves. Plenty of oil and grease marks though.

All the logging arches I can remember were not painted but again had virtually no rust because of the constant contact between the load, the strops, passing vegetation etc. However I think any "audience" is expecting some colour so I'm thinking of dry brushing some colour on the main arch beam and parts of the frame that would have less contact with logs to represent remanent paintwork. The arch has been painted with a light gunmetal with silver drybrushed along all the area where the load would constantly bump. It doesn't show in these photos though.

Any comments welcome especially about weathering and appearance.

Perhaps I should have also mentioned that the casting quality of the kit was very good for something in this scale. Again its a bit hard to see from the photos but the engine is well deatiled with many identifiable components, piping leads etc and the detail in the track section is quite exceptional, sag in the top track, the tensioning gear, etc.

But for group buiids I like to find something no one else is doing to help keep it in perspective...

::deep sigh:: ok... I'm a fringe builder... now what? Wink [;)]

Still waiting on that pic post of your next model! Ya know the one you spray with a regulated 155??? I saw your post in another thread about better painting with your Aztec, it was the same for me... until I got used to the 175, my Aztec kits were better than my 175 kits... slowly it has turned (quite a bit) in the other direction... just took some getting used to! and getting a 155 helped too! Next brush is a HP-CS Iwata! I promise I will bequeath my 175 to ya in my will! too bad I am only 38! by time you get it Badger will have the 796 out or something haha

I'm working on it. my f-4e phantom is half painted with the 155. The bottom color was sprayed with it. The 155's first complete build will be a mig-29. you'll see it in a few months once its finished. The phantom still needs a few finishing touches.

OK, here is the deal, there is now one month before final submission of all photos to be judged...
Your photo will be based on "Here is my final submission"

There has been a slight technical difficulty which has worked out for the better, I wiped my hard drive and have lost the "Winner" tag which means that there will be a unique and seperate winner tag made for the "Old Guns Build WInner" that I have made....
The judging will take 3 days , for I believe that I have to ponder each piece of work., like good wine...
So on Jan. 4th at least, the decisions will be made and there will be a 2nd and 3rd place spot... not only just a #1 spot...

Actually I'm now finding that my modelling is being governed by what ever GB's are around [:0][:0]

I have redone the tracks on the dozer and they are looking much better, now to do a bit more on the arch and my "final submission" will be readyBig Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]
