Tails, huh? Why not three verticals? Two on the ends of the horzontals and a third on the end of the fuselage? I like the looks of the two configurations you've already shown (although that second one - it might have a noisy takeoff and landing)

I like it!Cool [8D] A-10+ Hogzilla it is.Big Smile [:D] Plus, I'll use your idea for the third vert. stab. Thanks!Smile [:)] I have no idea what the color scheme will be. I usually start thinking about that when I'm close to being done. I think I'll try and keep it simple, so as to not distract from the aircraft itself.

My 2 cents [2c]

In that case, might I suggest standard Euro1 and squadron markings? We (viewers of the A-10) have been so conditioned to seeing them in those colors that Euro1 just seem "natural" (just like an F4U's three tone blue/white scheme or an F-105 in SEA colors) and won't distract the viewer. Plus - you'd be finishing Hogzilla in a scheme nicknamed - yup - "Lizard."

My Thunderbolt GR.1 and A-10M concepts are based on the opposite of what I just described. While there will be some physical differences between those and a stock A-10, the biggest wil be the paint scheme and markings.

My 2 cents [2c]

Could you show me or direct me to where I can see an example of this Euro 1? Being a Navy man, all I'm use to is grey, gray and underway haze gray.Wink [;)]

Thanks Eddie

Yes. I do recoginze it. Funny, I never knew all these camo jobs had names. Yours is the second suggestion to use those colors.I'll keep this scheme in mind whenever I get to that point. Thanks.Smile [:)]

"Hogzilla" indeed!  That is one monster of an A-10, Eddie.  I'll be looking forward to any updates.

Good to see this thread getting some more attention.  Keep those beasts coming!  It'll give me something to do while I'm "away" on business for my uncle.

Hey LJ, how's it going!

Think you'll refinish your Whiskey in your local MARPAT colors upon your return? Wink [;)]

I made the call last night - I had a Matchbox EA-6B kit from an eBay bulk buy and it's a POS, so I'm pulling parts from it for my A-10M (Stop laughing Jon, it'll happen!!!!). Nose gear, hook, something that looks like a chaff/flare dispenser, drop tanks and a few misc items

On my Thunderbolt GR.1, I need to finish the nacelles and get those on, and then she'll be ready to prep-n-paint!

Me? Laugh? Nonsense! I'll do no such thing... *snicker snicker*

Anyhow, don't have any progress to report on my Army Hog yet.  Been workin on some other stuff and I'm pretty much stalled until I can get the Verlinden NAW update set.   That thing's pricy!

No way am I redoing the paint job on my Whiskey Hog, Trigger!  I like it just as it is.  Now, that's not to say that my tiltrotor escort wouldn't possibly get it's top surfaces decked out in a similar pattern for the warmer climate.

hillbilly70631, I think Trigger's A-10N would fit the bill for your anti-ship role, he's working his up for full carrier ops if memory serves.  So it would be perfect for a brace or two of Harpoons or a few ASW torpedoes and depth charges.

I started on my A-10M over the weekend. Canibalized parts from an old EA-6B kit for a tailhook, new nose gear and a few other odds and ends. No Harpoons though, strictly a mid- to late-80s USMC CAS platform:

I don't know if we've got someone building a full-on A-10N in this build though.

Sounds like PanzerWulff has the only game in town as far as ASW is concerned.  Lots of unique variants, that's for sure.

I've seen photos on the web of someone's naval A-10, with wing-folds.  I thought about that for my build (for all of about thirty seconds) but I don't think I could have pulled off that kind of surgery.

Hey, hey ! Since I'm only working on 3 or 4 projects at one time, I figured I'd better get started on more progress on the HogzillaWink [;)]Big Smile [:D] Since this one is going to be so big, I wanted to beef up the landing gear. Now I've created more work to expand the wheel wells, but such is life. Also, a dry run on how the two 30s are going to be installed in the nose. I'm sure they'll move again before it's all over, but I wanted to see how it's gonna look. I think it will work.Smile [:)]

Pretty mean looking, Eddie.  I wonder how loud it gets in the cockpit with both GAUs firing?

What did you use for the main gear wheels?

Still going with the four engine config?

I like the progress, keep the updates coming, when you can spare a minute.  Just how many projects do you have going right now anyway?

You reminded me of a slogan on the hangers at Atsugi. Please excuse our noise, it's the sound of freedomSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Never thought about the noise level. i think any pilot would put up with it to fire those babies just once.Big Smile [:D] I got the wheels from the other kit( I bought two for this project). The 4 engine config is here to stay. Here's the latest pix. I've expanded the fuselage to fit the ammo drum and extra fuel.I've also used bits of drinking straws to make external covers for the gun barrelsBig Smile [:D] I think I've got about 5 or 6 projects going at once . Being the glutton for punishment that I am, I've started a real world 1/72 F-20 just to make it interesting.Clown [:o)]

"Remember; short, controlled bursts..."

Just think of the intimidation factor as it orbits the area waiting for the call-in by the FAC.

Lookin good Eddie beefing up the landing gear is a major priority on my A-10N as well I'm thinking of modifying some aftermarket F-14 landing gear for the job OH BTW you might want to see my A-10"warzschwein" for the 1000 year III reich gb i took out the GAU8 (blasphemy you say?) and replaced it with an in scale "Autoloading"Wink [;)] Pak-40 75mm I figure if the did it with a Ju88 and B-25 in WWII an A-10 can handle it LOL

At long last, an update!  That's some nice work on the landing gear, Eddie.  Just enough to keep our appetite sharp for more as you progress.  This one will be a monster, that's for sure.

PanzerWullf, I'll have to go look at your build, it sounds pretty interesting as well.  (shakes head) But I just don't know about not having that big ol' GAU in the nose...just seems wrong.

as for the A-10N I'm having a bear of a time finding a pair of homing torpedos anyone know of any AM torpedos out there? also I'm not sure if I will do a high vis or low vis scheme on the A-10N,I sortof like the older white&gull grey high vis scheme

A couple of new additions. I built a laser designator and FLIR out of a KC-135 O2 tank and A-4 drop tank tip. Lemonjello, I think I'll start on the guns today, since I'm off until Wed.Big Smile [:D]

That is looking pretty darn mean!  Nicely done with the sensor turrets.  This beast is really starting to come along now.
