Double D, I didn't see any canopies in the Squadron site for an A-10. You might be able to find a cheap on on Evil-Bay depending on the scale. I got my A-10 I'm workin' on now off there in a 4 plane Mono Desert Storm kit set.
BTW, What part of Chi-town you from? I'm originally from Harvey! ;) - Calvin

Darn! I can't seem to find the Commandant's phone number, or I'd let him know about the boneyard A-10s. Ha-Ha-Ha.

Progress Report: All the control surfaces have been cut free for repositioning, and I'm doing some puttying in places. The real problem now is the fit of the front wheel bay/gun enclosure piece. It's too wide for the fuselage, so I'm trying to sand and shape it to fit better with less use of putty, but it's going to be a task and a half. So, most of the major components are done, just have the landing gear to go assembly-wise.

Still have to determine what paint scheme I want to use. Decisions, decisions.

I'll check my email when I get a chance. I'm sure its waiting there for me. I emptied out my inbox, so I wouldn't miss anything that comes in during the next week. I'll be out of the shop on the rifle range, so I didn't want any pesky work-related issues to just sit there, so that's why I set up the auto reply. I'll sneak in there and check it, as long as I don't get bogged down.

Really starting to wonder if I didn't bite off a bit too much with the control surfaces, but I'll make them work. Just waiting on the Milliput to dry more so I can shape it. This kit has some fit issues, but I guess that means I'll just get to work on some other skills with this project. I'll try to post some progress pics this evening.

No worries, no rush. It was an early draft. But to answer your question:
Bettie Page - Done
The "Whiskey Rider" - I'm looking for a good bottle pic. If I can't find a bottle of Jack, how's Maker's Mark sound?
"The Pair" - clipping/compositing will be easy. Comping up with a cool layout will be the fun part.

The big thing will be output. If this will print on an ALPS printer, then that solves the problems. If you print these to clear paper, you'll stand to have opacity problems. Print to white paper, you solve the opacity issue, but you've got a monster trimming job on 'em before you can apply them.

I'm going to look at simple overall shapes and there are a couple other avenues we can discuss later. Have fun shooting things! Thumbs Up [tup]

BTW - I'm building the Monogram 1/48 kit. I have one drop tank, but could use another. Anyone have one they won't use; find a way of making a trade?

That was some fast work, Trigger. And any whiskey bottle will do, I'm not that picky.

I was thinking about the whole clear vs white paper issue, too. Not sure how to best solve that one yet.

Let me see if I have any drop tanks with this Hobbycraft kit, I'll send them your way if I do. Fair is fair, and I'm racking up the debts with all you've helped me with so far.

I've been a bad monkey! I went ahead and started on my Thunderbolt GR.1. Added an A/A refueling probe to the nose and some "British" antenna as well.

Cobrahistorian; I'm going to take your wing-radar suggestion and run with it. I've got an CC Pave Hawk radome I wasn't going to use - until now Evil [}:)]

It'll look weird, but it'll also have that 60s/70s British military look to it (I say that with affection). I think It'll be really cool looking

Assembled the wings and tails, will assemble the engines next. Cockpit is primed and I was about to work on it this a.m., but now that I'm installing a radar, I need to hobble in a display on the dashboard.

Oh yeah - along with extra drop tanks, anyone know where I can pick up a 1/48 British pilot (seated)?

Well, I just created my decals.

"Katie Did!" is an A-10D from 3rd Platoon, C Company, 3-3rd Aviation, one of the Army's new composite attack companies. The new TO&E for Attack battalions was implemented in early 2006 and each company was assigned two platoons of AH-64Ds and a single platoon of three, two-seat A-10Ds.

I think I may do the wings and aft fuselage tonight. The office is going to take a LOT of work, so that forward fuselage is going to be a bit of a long haul.

I've started a Firehog using my imagination as a guide. This was an old Monogram kit(1:48) that I built years ago and decided to sacrifice to the cause. I just started scratch building, so things look a bit rough. I'm keeping the cannon because if you were to load it with incendiary shells,one could start a back burn much easier Smile [:)]

Just thought I'd add my two cents. I'd post a picture if I could figure out how.

I need some help with trying to get the control surfaces posed. How do you all go about dropping the ailerons and elevons? I've cut what I wanted to pose off/out and I tried to shape the open ends with Milliput. It NEVER dried! So, I just took it all off and now I'm pondering what I need to do to get going again on this one.

Help a guy out.

If you have some tree spruce close to the dia. of the elevon thickness, try creating a groove in the elevon and tail body. Once you have the groove to the proper depth, put the round stock in there and when you attach it ,it will give the impression of the rounded surface of ther elevon when lowered. It worked for me when I chopped the flaps on my B-58.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've got some sprue lying around here that should work, that or some Evergreen rod and tube that might do the trick, we'll give it a shot and see how it goes.

Well, my second Hog arrived, the one that will be an A-10M. I won't get started on it for a few weeks though. I no longer need a second drop tank, but now I've got to find a carrier-compatible nose gear and arresting hook that I can sacrifice. Hoping I can pick up a cheapo Navy fast-mover at Hobby Lobby this week.

Thunderbolt GR.1 - I'm about to assemble the engines later this week. Basic wings and tail surfaces are assembled and I've mounted an air-air refueling probe on the fuselage. Still have the cockpit to finish. After that, assembly will be straightforward as I'm not doing major surgery on it. Going to try to get some pix online this weekend.

Also, I'm sorry to hear that Robert; I hope everything's okay.

We ask that you keep your seat and airbrush in the full and upright position while you work, but feel free to walk about the boards.

To share images; I'm going to quote BlackWolf3945:

First thing you'll need is an online photo host where you can store your images. A good host is www.photobucket.com where you get a decent amount of storage capacity and bandwith for free. You'll have to register, which takes only a few minutes.

Been a crazy week in the shop, the regimental CO's laptop decided to quit, makes my job tougher. I've got the major components mocked-up, I'll try to get some update photos posted. The ailerons are still mocking me, but I'll get them beat yet.

Added masking tape belts and some wire hardware to the ejection seat, too. It may not be 100% accurate, but it looks good to this guy. Better than when it started. I'm waiting on my panel scriber to arrive, I'm going to give that a try as well.

Success! This was early on in the refit

I built this about 10 yrs. ago and when I did, I paint the inside of the canopy to black it out. I was able to sand it out and now it's gold. Ya'll will see that later, if anyone is interested. I'm almost finished with paint and final construction.

It's an old Monogram that I bought in 87 just before I joined the Navy and didn't build it until 94 or 95..Thanks for the compliment on the flaps. This the first time I've done this much scratch building. Oh, by the way ,the gray part of my under relly tank is the inside cargo deck out of a 1:72 V-22. That one piece gave me the inspiration to go ahead with this project. Strange things come from the minds of squids...

eddie, sorry to disappoint you, but that's the bare plastic on my A-10. I still haven't settled on a scheme for her yet. The "whiskey" designation just came up when I first thought of making a USMC version, like the AH-1W "Whiskey Cobra" but I do have some possible nose art with a connection to the Ol Number 7 that may go on this beast.
