                        Has anyone done the Minicraft PV1? just curious, if not has anyone done any minicraft kits... how are they? I was kind of scared off of it because I was thinking I had heard some negative things against the kits... don't want to get into a putty fight with a kit again for a loooong time!

                        Well i've made the decision to add the red intake cover on the Sabre, South said that when on the ground the intakes were covered so i'll go with that, plus it will make it easier to fit the internal parts, the Ultra Cast pit is seperate so all i will have to fit is the front wheel wellThumbs Up [tup]

I REALLY am enjoying this one... and thought that having the Aussie one to sit beside it woud make it a bit more of a conversation piece! Be careful because it has decals on th sheet for a RAF N. Africa one too!!! Might have to do a triple threat! Wink [;)] Actually it does look kinda nice with its light grey body with 1/5th desert yellow top and desert yellow upper surfaces! You might have given me an idea!!! I'll have to scan the instruction sheet so you can see the different planes on it...

                        ACK! Actually after I scanned that I was thinking about it... the roundels had been overpainted with sea blue... (so it said) so even though it looked like an Aussie roundel it wasnt! oh well... it seemed a good idea and I probably will build one more Martlet just for grins.... just not for here! I think two on the library table in different schemes would look good!

                        Back to the drawing board....

                        hmmm I think I feel a Typhoon coming on me... just got back from squadron and they have the decals for a Typhoon 1b of 451 Sqn (Western Desert) ... oughta be interesting... and the Hasegawa kit looks nice! Anyone build it yet?

                        That's exactly the one I was looking at last night after I found decals for a Typhoon... actually if I found a decent C-130 kit they have those too... just a large build though for my small desk...

                        Tom, I haven't built the Hase Typhoon myself, but it sure looks like a nice kit. I think from memory that there is a little bit of hassle with the cockpit section because Hase use the same base mold for both the car door version and the bubble top. Other than that it's supposed to be a breeze.

                        The Martlet decals look cool BTW, if I wasn't so busy building other stuff I would go out get myself a kit.

                        Also, here are a couple of reference Pics of the Typhoon Ib in service with 451 SQN RAAF. As a side issue, I had no idea the RAAF ever even trialed the Typhoon until you mentioned it. Well you learn something new every day Big Smile [:D]

                        Darren, first of all thanks so much for the pictures! I've always loved the Typhoon/Tempests with that big open mouth in front!!! So I am as excited as ever about it! If you do decide to do a Martlet, I really recommend this Tamiya kit... it goes together VERY well, very little sanding at all once glued! And the detail on it looks great (cockpit could use some PE though) The decals are by Aeromaster, sheet number 48-548 and they look top notch! From the looks they will lay down nice without having to use Microsol, not thick at all but looks like there won't be any color bleed through all the same.

                        hopefully the interior won't be to ohard to mate up.. I am really thinking that car door canopy is going to set this model apart.!

                        OK - maybe not the most entirely appropriate thread to post this question to, but with the conversation path previously established, I think it makes sense in here ...

                        I am a strong follower of Swannys tips - they are well written, and very helpful to learners like me. However, with the discussion in here asking about the differences between Future and Pledge, I was wondering whether Pledge was a simple replacement for Future in Swannys tips on weathering. In particular, I am looking at applying a wash to my SBD for the Pacific GB, and I don't want to ruin a paint job I am otherwise quite proud of, just because I had not asked the question.

I've never had any trouble & I think you can pretty much treat it as Future although you may need to make really sure it's dry. BTW: It's Pledge 'One Go', not the other Pledge products.

                        Interesting point in the Brett Green 'Testors Scale Workshops' vids, he states in there that the Johnsons' Oz product to match Future is something called 'Super Shine' or similar, not Pledge (not that he uses anything but Future).

                        You are absolutely right it's definitely Pledge One-Go (not their other products) and yes for all intents and purposes it’s pretty similar to Future.

                        'Super Shine' was a product that was apparently a Johnson's product that was available a few years ago here in Aus although I never actually found any myself. One-Go has been around for donkeys years (used to use it back in the army to put a mirror shine on boots for a big parade).

                        One thing, when using it under a wash, make sure you let it cure properly (at least 24 hours) before applying the wash.

                        South I didn't even know the CA Hudson was still available, where did you find it?

                        Also, if anybody is still looking for an idea, I noticed that Italeri have released a 1/48 F-4 Phantom with Aussie markings included.

                        Bandha Boy, not quite sure how the Hudson versions work. Know that they were used as light bombers and aircrew trainers but thats about all, guess I might have a little research on the Hudsons.

                        Pledge behaves almost the same as Future when you apply a wash over it.
                        With Future, your wash 'wicks' along panel lines really well, with Pledge it sorta follows the line, but takes some coaxing(?).
                        Reason, Pledge isn't a true acrylic finish, whereas Future pretty much is.
                        Pledge once cured, has a bit of 'grip' to it, so it will hold onto your liquids a bit.

                        Can't wait to do some hardcore detailing on this Bell 47Big Smile [:D]
                        I reckon it's gonna take more skill to make the cockpit of this helo to look spiffy, then it did last time for me to make the Sabre!!!!!!!!!!!

                        When I joined the fuse and other resin parts on the Sabre, after the CA had cured, I filled the join on the inside with a decent amount of car bog.
                        I always put a brace of some sort across any large join anyways, mostly fuselages, I just don't trust a join that goes the length of anything.
                        Call me strange (go on Tom, I know you want too!) but the Sabre really needed some bulk, which was good seeing as I dropped it once, and didn't damage it too much.
