my question as well...

And no I wasn't going to call you strange tweety! At least they still let you go on the Happy Acres field trips! I'm confined to the compound during those events... something about when we went to the county fair last year and I got in the wreck in the bumper cars and cursed out the teenager who was running the ride... He didn't know those things have a governer on em and when you take it off ....VROOOOM.... not my fault!

I have both Future and Superstride at home. Superstride has a milky look to it but applies and dries clear. Having used both, I can certainly say that both Future and Super Stride are exactly the same once on the model. I fact of kind of prefer Super stride over Future.

I went and checked Pledge out once Swanny had done his research and a whiff of the stuff put me off for ever. Incidently, Steve Evans of Hawkeye has announced he is importing Future soon.

cheers

Car-Bog is Automotive Putty.

It can be either polyester putty (similar to Tamiya putty) which cures by a solvent reaction. Must build this up in layers with sufficient curing time. Can shrink slightly too when curing.
The second is my favourite, 2 Part Putty. That is a putty and catalyst. This cures by a chemical reaction induced by the catalyst. Curing is very rapid and the product is sandable in 10mins, and cured in 1/2 hr to an hour. If you look at the BA Falcon in thread in my signature, part of the rear end is sculpted with 2 Part Putty.

This is probably too late for this round, but I see that Classic Airframes is releasing a 1/48 Vampire, which looks fairly tasty:
http://kits.kitreview.com/vampirefb5previewbg_1.htm

Not sure if the RAAF used the FB.5 but it's nice to have a decent kit when we have lots of real samples in museums around the country.

Bandha Boy; the RAAF did use the FB.5.

For all those interested if you check the following website has information on all aircraft that were used by the RAAF, RAN and Australian Army.

Tweety - by "coaxing" I assume you mean almost brushing the wash into the lines?? Swanny's guide suggests with Future the wash will naturally just flow into the lines.

Mmmmm .... A Vampire??? One of my earliest memories as a kid was as the RNZAF did a flyover of NZ with their last Vampires. NObody had heard of noise pollution back then Big Smile [:D]!! Might have to keep my eye open for that kit when its released. Maybe a candidate for the ANZAC builds??? Just have to find some RNZAF decals to make it truly complete.

Call me strange (go on Tom, I know you want too!) but the Sabre really needed some bulk, which was good seeing as I dropped it once, and didn't damage it too much.

Thanks for the tip TweetsBig Smile [:D]I think i'll add a couple of braces to the inner join in the fues to beef it up a little, and i might use the 2 part bog to fill the seams along the fues and wing joinsCool [8D]
For some reason i'm really looking forward to building this thing, i guess thats why i'm here at Happy Acre'sTongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

Jules: the fairy floss thing was YOUR idea if you remember right... and so was the sausage on a stick idea you had... good thing we didn't go through with it! We'd have the health dept down on us in a snap!

For those asking about the nose art for the SBD I posted awhile back (RNZAF markings) here is a set from Aeromaster covering several plane types... it has 4 SBD markings in it, all with nose art but not the stomach with the liqour one...

http://www.eaglestrikeproductions.com/cgi-bin/amddecals.pl?scale=48&setid=10&dbs=aeromaster&pgs=7&currpg=1&dclimg=sp4810

It's a bit expensive ($18.50 US) but has markings for about 10 to 12 AC I am guessing... PBY's, P-40's, F4U's etc... I bet if several of you found things you wanted to build in there you could split the price on it...

I KNOW I saw the stomach one somewhere, let me go check Red Roo and a few others... it just slipped me where I saw it...

---edit---

Jules, we call it Cotton Candy here... I think I like Fairy Floss better! Would appeal to the kids imagination as their teeth are rotted out by it! Wink [;)]

For a wash that just zooms into panel lines, use lighter fluid as a thinner - it's magic. Artist oils will dry in no time with this stuff & you can go straight on to whatever's next.

Tom, I have been wanting that sheet myself so I can make a RNZAF Avenger. Unfortunately it is unavailable and those that do have them won't part with them. Sad [:(]

harvs, yeah I noticed it was not available after I posted that... that's a real shame... maybe we need to all email eagle strike or aeromaster and tell them we want it back!!!! would have been nice to have around!

Well no modeling done today.... went and picked up a dog... it's a bassett hound and as of yet it has no name.. maybe yall could suggest something...

I was really stuck on it... my wife thought it horrible to suggest you all should name him... I think it a great idea! (as long as Sean doesn't poke his nose in here... who knows what he'd come up with???? Wink [;)])

Maybe Bassett Mk. III or something to go with the modeling thing.. ?? naww... the missus would beat me! Black Eye [B)]Sad [:(]

This HiPlanes kit of mine has a stack of white metal, which I've never used before. Any tips on prepping or painting the stuff?

Much the same. I use a number of different shaped needle files then wet and dry to get a good finish. Any surface hollows or holes I fill with Tamiya putty or similar. I always prime with an automotive primer (Duplicolour) before adding the top coat.

Jules, too late I already came up with a name for him before I read this but that is a sharp one! In fact if I can convince the wife maybe it could be changed... I saw it in the BoB GB but after I've thought about it a bit it is kind of sticking!

Sean had the bright idea about the gas in the AC... he's always thinking of things to get us in trouble... I suppose maybe he was the one who put the foam bits in the popcorn bin as well...

Mine's a BAE Hawk 127, which I just did a dry build on (hey, it's after midnight, ok!).

From that I can tell you that my schedule will be (sorry, but I'm a Project Manager by day, so I have to organise these things) Day1: clean up flash, day 2: clean up flash, day 3: clean up .... yes, more flash than a Marvel Comic. The Hiplanes kit is quite schizophrenic. The big plastic bits are very flashy & the fit quite poor. The small plastic bits & the resin seats are superb - different type & colour plastic from the structural items so I'm guessing that one or the other is outsourced. In fact there are 3 or 4 distinct types of plastic. The white metal is reasonable while the small amount of PE is without any detail (just the antennae's).

Hey Bandha, I just noticed in your post that you are a PM, me too. Are you in IT as well or some other industry?

I know what you mean about a build schedule, I have written down day one, day two etc, etc but I haven't come to the point of putting it in MS Project yet (yet), although I have thought about it once or twice (sad I know Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D])

Also, I have that HIgh Planes kit as well and I know exactly what you mean, I think someone did a poll a while ago about their most intimidating kit in their stash, the High Planes Hawk tops my list easily.

hmmm learn something new every day... so Banda and Darson --- when's go live on this? Not a PM but a Team Lead in a past life.. (before going straight network admin) we did multi facility health care software upgrades and installs... been thinking of getting my IT Project + lately just to pad the resume a little bit... don't think the life of a PM is the life for me! I enjoy staying a bit more obscure and being the one in the back of the room with a good idea now and then...

I was puzzled by the "Go!" a minute ago then I remember it's already the 26th there... gonna wait to finish my martlet and my SBD (both anywhere from 50% to 80% done) should be able to start next weekend...

Darren, yep - I work for that big blue US company.m currently on the Qantas account.

The Hiplanes kit - I'm starting with those metal cockpit tubs - crikes! I figured there must have been some detailed plastic or decals to put over the side panels but nope, that's it. Pretty hard stuff to work up some instrumentation detail on & what's there is as rough as. Strange when the front instrument panels are so nicely done.

Oz Day today, of course, so I've had a trio of F/A-18's & then the Roulettes roaring past all day. Those Roulette birds have a very strange sound, kind of like a giant, high-revving harley, not at all like most small prop aircraft.
