Before I left NAS Lemoore I went up to Fresno and in an antique book store found a very nice signed copy of Pappy Boyington's "Ba Ba Black Sheep"! I paid $45 for it and I think I got over on that one! I know that the book itself is not rare or anything but the signed one makes this GB kinda special. - Calvin

calvin i hear that. this build is special to me also. the finished bird will be going to the nephew of greg boyington. i will present him with both the avg bird and this corsair.

Hello fightnjoe and all. Regrettably I better withdraw from this GB at this time. The date is coming up fast and I seem to be over committed to GB’s at this time. And I know this sounds kind of weird but I have a couple IB’s* I want to work on also. Sorry I won’t be able to participate but will be watching closely.

Fightnjoe, I do plan to still participate in your Pearl Harbor GB.

*individual builds Big Smile [:D]

Joe & Rick, it’s the same old story we’ve heard a thousands time. Boy see group build, boy likes group build, boy signs up for group build, boy come to the sudden realization that he has over committed himself to group builds.

Sorry I had to drop out. If I have a good March & April build wise I might jump back in. Need to work on my Vacuform GB and my Before & After Diorama GB, both of which I personally started and am the leader of and I need to finish my BoB GB, which is almost done, and my Pacific War GB, which I have just barely started. Then there are two major IB top-secret projects I want to work on.

The other thing I’ve notice as my skills progress, I think I’m getting better anyway, it just takes longer for me to complete a build.

Anyhow, like I said if things go well I could get back in at the last minute.

If you'll have me I'm in. I have the Revell 1/32 model from the show, I've been itching to build, so here's my excuse! I met the 12 surviving Members at the Corsair gathering in Indianapolis in 2002. What an honor, I'll have to dig up the pics! Pappy is one of the reasons I'm a pilot today!

Hi Joe (and everyone else),

I'm new to this forum (and to modeling as well), and I was wondering if it's possible that I could participate in this Group Build as well? I have a Testors 1:72 F4U-1A waiting to be built. Decals are for Boyington's aircraft, but I thought it shouldn't be too hard to do a different aircraft.

Today I found suitable (I hope) decals and got them ordered from Eagle Strike (48-085). That was the hard part. Getting the kit should be easy.

Sorry to see you go, Dan! I am now kinda set up in my new barracks. There's no shelves whatsoever so I'm waiting to get a car & get to Wal-Mart (this town's big attraction!). All of my Corsair's, however, are still in my packout, so hopefully they'll be here soon. In the meantime I'm repairing the stuff that the USPS crunched! Try Eagle Strike at eaglestrikeproductions.com There's a set there for Boyington's bird. The sheet is ESP48-085 and it was the only one I could find that is readily available.

1/72 wheels

So I was going through my kit (1/72 Testors Corsair), and the wheels are the exact same as the ones on their SBD Dauntless kit (cheap bastards!). I was wondering if anyone makes scale 1/72 detail kits (including the wheels) for the corsair.
