Dishsoap is generally used in acrylic sludge washes and making your own liquid masking solutions (besides washing the model). it reduses the adhesion qualities and breaks surface tensioon. I've never heard of it being used for a wetting solution - but then, that dosen't mean anything.

You clean future out of your AB with whatever you use to clean acrylic paint out of your AB.
Water or alcohol with a touch of ammonia based windex or the like.

3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation

Ammonia is the best solvent for Future, especially if it has dried. Denatured alcohol will also work if the Future hasn't been allowed to cure. I clean my AB with Windex ( the blue version with ammonia ), followed by some denatured alcohol & a final few shots of lacquer thinner. Better Safe than Sorry Smile [:)]

Here's my entry for this build. It is the Tamiya F4U-1A. It was a nice little build with the exception of the Aires cockpit which looked great sitting on the bench but I had to hack apart to get it to fit in the aircraft. Never again with an AM pit. I had a couple of small painting issues - got paint on the canopy and must have had a little moisture in the brush when I sprayed the white because there's some bubbling, but other wise I think it looks OK. Thanks to Joe for putting this build together and I can't wait for the upcoming PH build. Well, here goes:

Anyone building the Trumpeter 1/32. I'm having trouble with getting the wings to line up and lock in the extended postition. Ideas?

Here's my finished build. Actually finished it a few days ago, but just got around to taking some pics & uploading. Tamiya 1/48 pretending to be Pappy's infamous White 86.

Nice! I just finished the first coat of mine. Now I just have to paint some more details, attach the fiddly bits, put on a coat of gloss, add the decals, gloss again, wash and weather, attach more fiddly bits, final gloss and I'm done!

It's practically together already!

Wait,I thnk it may be the right one,I remember the hobby shop guy telling me that a guy bought about six of the kits for a baa baa blacksheep dio,The corsair is a night fighter version.

Hello fellows,

It just happend that today a friend of mine gave a F4U1 1/72 scale with the 86 Pappy's decals but no paint instructions I thought this might be the appropriate palce to ask for the right color scheme and paint numbers.

You have indeed come to the right place. The correct scheme is the tri-color scheme of white undersides, intermediate blue fuselage sides and outbord wing bottom and flat sea blue for the topside. See the photos above for the demarcation lines. Testors carries the colors in it's Model Master 2 lineup. I don't have the exact A/N numbers but they are close to FS37875, FS35164 and FS35042.

I'm rounding the finish line as far as putting the pieces together but I'm stumped by a question about wheel well and strut colors.

The painting instructions in the Tamiya kit call for green wheel wells and aluminum struts. I've seen this scheme in plenty of online build articles as well. The pics over at Kiwi -- http://www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/corsair.html -- show white wells and struts.

Since I can't find any color photos of Boyington's planes, I'm thinking I can just take a little license and stick with the green/aluminum scheme.

Any thoughts?

The struts & wheels were white. Corsairs earlier than the F4U-1A had the struts painted light grey on most aircraft. Gear bays & inner gear doors were usually painted in the underside color, white in this case. However the factory standard was a primer in a color equivalent to FS 30215, a zinc chromate green with a more brownish tint. I mixed & used that color on my build, just for some visual interest, but white is the more likely color.

Thanks, Rick. I thought I saw a greenish edge to your gear doors in the pics you posted. Unless the purists object, I may stick with green wells and white struts then.

The purists will have a hard time proving you wrong. Of course, you'll have a hard time proving you're right. Big Smile [:D]

. Color pics of unrestored birds are hard to come by, especially pits & gear bays. On Pappy's White 86, the bays & doors were most likely painted white, but it makes a kinda bland model. I went with the FS 30215 for more visual interest & my research showed that it "could" be correct.
