I suppose we should list some kits for those who are looking to build and are unsure....I only build 1/48, so I will list these....

Tamiya features a B and D kit-- no need to say more...although if you are looking to do a C version that featured the fin fillet (some had them)- the Tamiya B does not have this....

AM has a P-51C kit-- I have built it before- and it is excellent-- and it does feature the choice of fin fillet or no fin fillet I believe...

ICM has at least a B and C version-- I have heard it is a bit scarce in details though...not sure about the other variants....

Of course-- there is the Monogram kit (same as the Revell??)....and I believe the Testors kit is also available for pretty cheap....and there is a Pro Modeler kit

To be honest-- the best resource to find any Mustang kit in any scale is the May 2001 FSM as they did a Mustang roundup in that issue....

Soon as I get my scanner up/working, I'll send the 'markings' sheet of the Testors' P-47D of Capt. Pruitt's a/c. Now, where'd I put that extra surge protecctor?Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]

I'll be going with the Tamiya D model 'Stang, but whose a/c depends on which decals I can locate here.

I was just toying around with a badge idea for this GB.
What do you guys think....

Bit nostalgic being B&W, but it has most of the actual members in the pic.
Just an idea.

Well-- out of the two....and this is just my opinion....the badge is a bit more colorful...maybe put it on a red background?? I know it seems I am hung up on the red, but the Airmen were veru proud of their red-tails- and that was how the bomber crews requested them for escorts. You have to admit, painting your plane almost half red does express a certain daring quality to them....

Good point Mike.

I do tend to think there is always a little to much focus on what they (any Sqdn, not just TA) flew, and not enough focus on the people themselves.
But by the same token, the red tails is just as big a part of the legend as the pilots skills and history.

They are a great story just in the fact that they did so much for so little credit. It had to have been disheartening to see German POWs being treated loads better than you were just because of the quantity of melanin in your skin Sad [:(]. I have a heck of a lotta respect for them and love hearing and reading about them. Even after being treated as they were by their own nation, they have been asked if they would do it again regardless- and they all said Yes.

Unbeleivable isn't it.
Like you said, they did so much, saved so many lives (the bombers they escorted), made people stand up and take notice, and still returned home as second class citizens to most.

And yet, pilots with a alot less melanin, who shot down a few planes, are etched clearly in history as being heroes.
It's just not cricket, as we say here on occasion.

Wonder how many others have been forgotten, purely 'cause their skin tone didn't match the criteria of 'Hero'.

As for the GB badge, I was thinking of making one up with the photo and badge side by side.
Might be a little larger, but I feel having faces next to the legend might not be such a bad thing.
Just an idea, you guys make the call.

We need to email the admin at some point to get it transferred-- but since we are still trying to gain builders, this section gets a bit more traffic....

frosty...not sure about the size issues...maybe there is a way we can do it...I am lame at any art programs....other than a little cropping and resizing, that's all I do.....

I came across a Three Guys decal sheet in my stash it is in 1/48.

1. P-40L Ace of Pearls
2. P-39Q Quanto Costa
3. P-51B Alice Jo
4. P-51B or C Topper 111
5. P-51D Creamers's Dream
6. P-51D Duchess Arlene
I will be using one of these, have not made up my mind which one yet but if you see something you like let me know.

Hi again, just to inform you as to what I'm building it will be a 1/72 P51-D made by airfix which is a reasonably good kit but will need upgrades, as for the details I don't know which one to do and it will depend on the decals I can get for my plane?

Hi, stuka_69 !
thanx 4 the update on ur planned build, it has been added 2 the builder's list on the 1st post of this thread.
that airfix kit is not bad at all.... no detail in the wheel bays
or the inside of the wheel covers, but since i'm building mine
as an 'in flite' model, no big !
i thought about scratchbuilding some details 4 in there,
even blanked off the gaps in the wings, then i remembered that
none of this was going 2 show with the gear up ...

TA decals in 1/72 r pretty thin on the ground, & there were fewer D models
flown by TA than B/C, so i am building this a/c as BUNNIE,
a D flown by Roscoe Brown...
i figured out that i can use the a/c number decals from the academy kit.
since INA, the Macon Belle wore #72, i'll cut off the 2 & just use the 7...
so when i build the P-51c, i guess i'll b doing it as TOPPER iii !

HTH,

anyone else decide what they will b building yet ?
i'm pretty sure i will b doing Topper iii in 1/72...
a slim chance i mite build an airacobra...
or even the PT-17 Stearman trainer,
because i don't think anyone else will want 2...Wink [;)]

KINGTHAD: Let's make a deal on two of those T/A decals.

I've got Tally-Hq "Mustang Aces Pt III" that I'm willing to swap for "Alice JO" & Topper III."

The Tally Ho set has Yeager's 51-C that he wa shot down in 5 Mar '44. "Detrioit Miss", "Beantown Banshee" & Egalseton's nose art w/24 'kills.'

Even swap............................Big Smile [:D]

Anybody know where I can get the Three Guys sheet in 1/72? Would like to do the P-39 on there, failing that I'll get the Academy P-51C kit and hope the kit decals aren't too terrible.

Well-- I plan on doing at least a P-47 (using the Tamiya Razorback kit) done up in OD top and NG underneath...don't have much references for it- but I know they just used the Checkertails fuselage codes, so I will research them first.... I will also be doing INA the Macon Belle....the Tamiya P-51 kit...but that one may be a ways away...

i realized that my clever plan won't work....
the 7 from INA's 72 is a bit smaller & thinner than the 7 on BUNNIE...
oh well, it was a good thought....

i don't think that the Three Guys Replicas decals 4 the TA come in 1/72...
unfortunately... i haven't been able 2 find a source 4 the Warbirds set, either... Dead [xx(]
