They did use both the -H's and the -J's, according to the Winter '75 issue of the American Aviation Historical Society Journal. The article is the second of two parts. I'm gonna try and get ahold of the first part but the article did give some good reference books: Tuskegee Airmen by Charles Francis, Bruce Humphries Pub. 1955 numerous magazine & newspaper articles Histories of the 99th & 100th Fighter Squadrons AF & National Archives Histories of the 616th & 617th Medium Bombardment Squadrons - AF & National Archives.
