Back a couple summers ago when I built the Mustang for the Airman in town here, I corresponded a bit with Thomas Myers from AM over at Armorama...and he said they were planning a rerelease of this kit. I believe he said they were retooling it at the time and I think there were plans to do Andrew "Jug" Turner's "Skippers Darlin'"-- you can still get the old AM P-51 B/C kits on ebay-- they have markings for "Bunnie" I believe...

hmmm there was that same AM kit at Hobby Lobby until about 3 weeks ago... if I had known I would have grabbed it!!! oh well, got a D model from Tamiya and just gotta wait on my decals!

I already have several P-51 B's, C's, an D's of the tuskeegee airmen group in my collection. Most of them are Tamiya. Very good quality. Big Smile [:D]

Well it's Tuesday the 1st Feb on my calendar, so tonight I'm going to break out the Tamiya P-51 and give it a start.

Thad the decals have arrived, thanks a lot!!!!

Also, can anybody on this build answer the following:
Does anybody have a decent reference shot of creamers dream (I need this for decal and color placement) , I've looked on the web but can't find anything much.
What color should I use for the yellow stripes on creamers dream's wings?

Does anyone know anyplace that carries Three Guys Replica decals & would have the 1/72 Tuskegee Airmen sheet? I forgot I have an old Mono P-51B kit. Might be just easier to pick up the Academy kit & do that. I seen a Academy P-51Red Tail kit at a LHS, but wasn't paying attention to what make it was. - Calvin

I've got a question for the Mustang experts here. Upon examining my P51C kit I discovered that according to painting-instructions and surfacedetailes of the cockpitfloor, that the floos was in wood. I don't know much about the pP51, but I can't imagine that the cockpitfloor was wood. Doen anyone know if this correct ?

i wish i could help w/ the first part... in fact, if u can find that sheet in 1/72,
let me know, because i'd like 2 order a set !
the academy 'Red Tails' mustang is listed as P-51C...
it comes w/ decals 4 'INA the Macon Belle' & 'Topper iii.'
there was no apparent difference between B & C models,
they were just made in different factories, or so i've heard.

i'm no expert, but i seem 2 remember that the 'stang floor
was actually wood... & being surprised at the fact.
can't say where i picked that up tho', so i would wait 4
confirmation from a more authoritative source...

As to the P-51 floor, this is from the IPMS Stokholm site (http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2004/02/stuff_eng_interior_colours_us_part2.htm):

so part of the stang floor was plywood, but painted black,
& metal areas were left unpainted...
wood, yes, but no wood grain would show under that paint/silica mix...

Thanks again Thad, but it's OK I think I've got it sussed out now. One question I do have is what color red does the decal placement sheet recommend for the wing tips and tail? I was planning on using MM Insignia Red but I'm not sure if this is correct.

well it looks like i wont be able to begin anything on this till mid to late this month. got an icm p-51c on order as well as markings for "creamer's dream", "strippers darlin", "kitten", and "apache:" so be patient with me, i am just waiting on the kit and decals now.

Jules, the Aeromaster sheet you are looking for is 48 224 and here is a link to it so you can at least see what it looks like.

Looking at this link actually answers another question I had, which was what color were the yellow theatre bands on the wings, answer chrome yellow.

my references say that insignia red was what they used on their a/c...
a bit of white added 4 scale effect sounds good.
i haven't started my build of the P-51C yet, i'm still trying 2 finish up

Matt you need to have the image hosted on a website and you paste the link to that website into your profile. A lot of people here including myself use PhotoBucket to host their badges and progress shots of their builds.
