here's the scheme I settled on... being the date is so close I *imagine* they were still in that get up come Dec 7th... if not, I'll just stick by the only reference I can find...

Looks good Tom-- I picked up the minibook on the Peashooter thinking I could get some ideas-- but in my quick look there was no references to any Pearl '26s....I may go with the OD scheme unless I find something else....

which kit are you doing Mike? I'm doing the Hasegawa 1/32 kit...

yeah I am not sure which is right but these are the nearest in date pic to the attack I can find.. so at least yours will contrast to mine!!! I really wanted to do it in the gloss OD and yeloow wings but thats ok... I can live with it haha...

The other one is even more interesting as it has a piece from a recently discovered almost complete early war Zero.

I went with the second reference for my A6M2 Type 11 ... I used RLM02 Grau and lightened it with white and it came close, I have the feeling just a touch more of brown would have had the color perfect.

Thank you VERY MUCH TOM!
I'll follow your hints

Lovely work on the pit Richard, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your bird.

Mike is that a 1/72 or 1/48 kit and what did you use for the Aodake color?

Speaking of Aodake, can anybody tell me if it was used for all interior surfaces (except the cockpit on my Kate)? I am particularly wondering about the engine cowling and any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks Darren. Well, I have all the paint coats on and now to the touchup and then the D&D. That's decals and dullcoat. Maybe finish tomorrow or Friday.

Wow Richard, you work fast. I've barely got my zero CP together! Which brings me to a request. I have the CP together except the seat. I realized that with all the ref pics I have, I forgot to obtain one showing the seat harness!

I'm going to go looking on the net shortly but does anyone have any good pics of the seat belt harness used on the A6M2 zero? I want to scratch me a harness.Smile [:)]

Pics coming soon.

Really! You do realize, don't you, Richard, that the build ends DECEMBER 7th and not the 7th day after the build begins? Wink [;)]

So far it looks great.

Thanks Jay and Aurora-7. My wife works part time when called upon and she lerves for work at 6:30 in the morning and returns around 4:00 in the afternoon. That provides me with a lot of solo modeling time. I also build models in sections so that when one section is drying I work on another. I am also considering a second model for this build. It will be the Trumpeter 1/24 A6M2. That will slow me down as well as having my wife home. Once again, thanks.

Darren, Thank you. I've looked on the net but obviously not in the right places. I found a pic of a resin seat and it showed holes in the seat, now I have to 'fix' the seat too.

Well here are my first progress pics. It is strictly kit stuff and I used the decal instrument panel, looks pretty good. The rest of the kit will be OOB with some ad-libbing for the Zuikaku markings. I think maybe the same markings as the CAF zero.Propeller [8-]

Any comments welcome. Please remember that this is only my fourth model since a while away from the hobby. I just got back in this past Jan with the BoB GB.

Wow ! There is some really great work going on ! I got started on my 1/72 Academt P40B tonight. The flaps have been cut away and the interior boxed in. Over the next few days the wheel wells should be finished and the spars on the flaps should be done as well. I hope to get some photos up before Monday morning.

No progress for me last night.. I got home, decided to log on here before modeling... pushed the power button on my computer .................. nothing!!! I was in a panic!!! what was I to do???? The only place I could pick up a power supply that time of evening was about 1.5 hours away!!!

Then I remember I had left one in the back of the truck one day at work and it eventually migrated into my garage.. so once I changed it out and got on, it was too late to model...

2 more days to the weekend and then I think it's marathon time! the only thing that concerns me is doing an effective job on the rigging.. More on that when I get there!!

Darren, thanks for looking.
When I got home I looked too for mor epics and I found two cut away drawings from different books and even though they both said 'A6M2' they had different seats and different harness. One had two sholder straps and a belly strap, the other looked like it had a single wide strap over the back of the seat and the belly strap.

What will I do. I have to do more searching for walk arounds I guess, unless anyone else here might have pics of the seat and harness for the A6M2 zero?

Mikeym_us, this is the Tamiya 1:48 A6M2b. A really nice kit so far, It looks like only a little bit of sanding on the fuselage will be needed.

didn't it come with a figure? if it did you can add that and you won't need a harness.

No figure.
Hey guys no worries, I found a website that had a beautiful 1:72 zero in Saburo Sakai's colours. Cool [8D]Yeah!! [yeah] It also had great detail shots of the build progress and I am using the builders pattern for the seat belts Tongue [:P] (See below, note - this is NOT my CP)

Go figure, after searching for many hours and visiting many walk-arounds, I never once found a picture of the seat. Banged Head [banghead] I have several books and they don't even show a seat. Many pictures of the cockpit IP, side walls and such but no seat. [:0]

jay i have two books on the zeke. one is type 11-21 the other covers all variants of the a6m. i see two good pics of the seat. one that would be of use but they are from a -5 version. the one i have of a type 21 shows the seat but it isnt as good. they look the same though. i will scan them and get them to you.

Hey im interested as well! only problem is....i only have 1/48 Mustangs from Revell-Monogram. Are these acceptable for the group build? if so put me down for 2 of them. My brother and I will build 2 simultaneously.

brian the mustang was not developed until after the attack. i am sorry but it doesnt fit the criteria. revell however does make a p-40b and with a little modification (markings and pilot tube) it makes an acceptable bird.

Brian--

I don't think there were any Mustangs around in 1941 other than on a drawing board somewhere....

Tom-- I have the 1/48 Academy kit....not bad considering ;)

vincent for my kate i will be doing the japanese gray overall scheme. the tamiya version of this paint looks pretty good. if you wish to do a bit of a weathered look you can achieve the bronzed look by adding a touch of tan to it. mine will be from the carrier shokaku and will even have a bit of a mottle cammo on it. (good lord did i just committ to what i think i did)
